DJF - your work is truly outstanding - thank you for all you've done. Perhaps i'm missing something - I have a question: how do I assign the VLC video output to a specific ATEM input ? Is this the operation described in the "Triggers" section at 29:30?
Hi Billy, just connect your computer's HDMI output to the ATEM and it will show up in your computer settings with the screen name "Blackmagic". Under VLC preferences, it will just call your screens "Screen 1 1920x1080", Screen 2 "1920x1080" and so on, so you'll have to test to see which output that refers to. In VLC's Audio menu, you can also target VLC's output audio to any audio device you have connected - for example, on my Mac by default it targets "MacBook Pro Speakers", but if the HDMI is connect to the ATEM, you'll see an audio option called "Blackmagic". Set the VLC to Blackmagic, and the VLC audio playback will route into the ATEM, independent from your computer's audio (ie you could use your headphone port to play spotify music via the headphones port, separate to your VLC playback).
Yes, I have developed it to the point where it is now part of my workflow for all my streams and it saves me SO much time... such that I actually do add chapters in for every livestream. Still looking at how to standardize the workflow for other people, and hope to have that out in my first iteration of DJF CUE for the Stream Deck Pedal.
Great work. Thanks! I am on Windows and cannot find most of the settings you talk about in VLC. Do you have instructions for VLC configurations on Windows?
Unfortunately not, since I don’t own any windows computers. I imagine you could find similar settings under the “show all” (more advanced) view of the preferences
Great Video David. Do you have any suggestions on how to automatically enable VLC REPEAT for a specific clip, and to disable REPEAT for any other clip? The usecase is VLC video as a background in a SuperSource. Kind regards Nils
Unfortunately VLC only has a toggle option for repeat, so it would be unreliable to add to a button or trigger. Maybe file a GitHub request that they add on and off options to the repeat commands.
Hi David. I just buy a brand new Stream Deck XL, ready to buy your VLC configuration next. But I'm stock with the Companion. When I try to open it, the the brouser open an show a message: "Companion is locked". Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
Thank for this awesome video. One Question about VLC. I can make everythings run on the latest version, but i can`t find the checkbox for just playing 1 single video out of the media list in vlc and than STOP. It plays all vids and i can`t find where to edit. Thanks for help!
DJF im building my own field rig based on your "Ultimate RIG for ATEM Min Pro!" and i need to incooperate a DJI Mavic 2 into the Atem, I'm using a rtmp server to get the signal into vlc via latte panda "win 10". can the signal from vlc still use your solution to get the job done, was thinking about the network part, DJI->VLC->ATEM, the VLC and Atem are in different network(computer)
I have tried to watch several of your videos and in every case found them rambling, and not prepared , as far as companion is concerned you are not doing them any favors with your explanations. There seems to be a good amount of confusion going on.

Thanks 🙏🏼 @David Joshua Ford I missed the stream but the replay was great. It looks like you got your chapter generator ready? 😊

@@davidjoshuaford Thanks David... How do you dress this problem yourself ?

This was super helpful, David! Thank you! Will VLC play videos with an alpha channel over a stream like a HyperDeck, too?
Good question - I haven’t tried, but it wouldn’t surprise me as VLC has a lot of filters and playback settings. I’ll have a poke around.

Watching the replay from Nebraska
