Just bought a home in West Allis! Excited for the new growth going on here!
As a semi-outside, I have to say West Allis has been good to me. I am from the Northside, Sherman Park area of Milwaukee, and I love it here. My rent is reasonable, and my neighbors friendly. I can get most stuff I need without having to go too far, but usually I do, partly cuz of my choice, and part of how I grew up as a northsider in the 80's where anything bigger you had to travel for.

Haha, yes I felt this way making it too. But I know West Allis now for 15 years and it really has grown on me!
If we continue on the current trends any neighborhoods that can control crime are a good bet in the Milwaukee area. Millennials are craving safe affordable neighborhoods.
We’re moving to Wisconsin because my husband is being relocated there for his job and we’re considering finding a house in west Allis

First of all, West Allis is a City, not a town. Allis-Chalmers no longer exists. It closed down in the 1980s. The "South Side" accent is not unique to West Allis. It was more prevalent in the Southeast corner of the City of Milwaukee. Not all West Allis homes have alleys; there are homes with side driveways (especially in Orchard Hills and the area around the hospital). Other than Target or Kohl's, you will need to travel to buy clothing. Most of the dining establishments are bars that serve food or microbreweries. I imagine if you are from Mequon West Allis must have seemed light years away.
LOTS of riff-raff has infiltrated West Allis and the schools are atrocious for problematic behavior that doesn't get addressed (e.g. fights, unsecured buildings where anyone can walk in, staff being assaulted, staff cars being vandalized during the day, etc. etc.). This city is not what it used to be. DEFINITELY a place to avoid!
