Such lyrical and tasty playing by Hirt. People don’t realize how tricky it is playing behind a singer like that and not stepping all over them. Al could steal the show from anyone with chops and technique galore but if he went way overboard on this it would have been too much. The octave jumping and hitting low notes right in tune with that big fat tone is something else and the control is amazing.
