    Today I'm going to talk about a subject that interests many people - the most attractive and fast EU residency within the Schengen zone.
    Which country is it? Malta!
    Malta offers a residency program, which is sometimes referred to as an infinite residency program by investment. But Malta is not the only EU country that offers residency by investment, what is so special about this one?
    First of all, this is a permanent residency. In many cases you'd need to renew your residency yearly (or every three years) for some time until you're able to qualify for the permanent one. Here you get it immediately.
    The second big advantage is that Malta is in the Schengen zone, meaning this residency gives you the opportunity to live in any of 26 member states, not just Malta.
    The third is that your entire family gets the residency with you. You can bring your spouse and your kids to Europe. This is not the case in Bulgaria, where your family needs to go through the visa process on their own, even though you applied for residency by investment.
    Another huge advantage of this residency is that it's unconditional, meaning you can keep it even if you don't spend any time in the country! You don't have to be physically present in Malta at all, and you will still keep your EU residency.
    These are the key requirements:
    1. In order to apply you need to have a minimum of 100 000 Euros per year as income OR you have to have at least 500 000 Euros in assets. It's required to prove your income or the value of your assets.
    2. You need to pay a government fee of 30 000 Euros.
    3. You need to invest in 250 000 Euro bond (you will get the money back at the end of the period)
    4. Either buy a property worth 270 000 Euro or more OR lease property for 5 years for at least 10 000 Euro per year.
    5. Legal fees of setting up this residency are around 25 000 Euros

    Wait a second. Does that mean if I get MRVP, I will get unlimited travel with in EU? In other words, I can stay in Italy, Portugal, Spain without 90 day limitations? If this is the case, that would be absolutely awesome.

    • @MichaelRosmer
      @MichaelRosmer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If you've got any Schengen visa yes you can stay anywhere in the Schengen zone without the 90 day limitation that's a big part of what makes it appealing.

    • @libertarianspirit
      @libertarianspirit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MichaelRosmer I'm confused. When I worked in the Netherlands, I could NOT stay in any European country for more than 90 days per year. So the question is if I get MRVP, can I stay in Italy or Spain for the whole year? I know that's not the case with Portugese golden visa.

    • @MichaelRosmer
      @MichaelRosmer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@libertarianspirit the thing about it is when they can't tell. You're supposed to be in one place but they can't verify the length of time. Just like if you spend over 6 months in a country you're supposed to be tax resident there but within the Schengen zone people can get away with it because there's no border crossings. Not proper but common for people to exploit and get away with.

    • @libertarianspirit

      @@MichaelRosmer I’m interested in formal rights. Does MRVP give right to stay more than 90 days in other countries?

    • @MichaelRosmer
      @MichaelRosmer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@libertarianspirit all programs are the same in this regard. By the letter of the rules if you are a citizen of a non-EU country then if you want to spend more than 90 days at a time in a country you need a long stay visa specific to that country. A visa from another country doesn't qualify.
      The caveat is they have no way of knowing or policing this so as long as you don't somehow draw attention to yourself you can get away with it, which is what many people do with places like Portugal or even Andorra.

    What is the tax ramifications of in this Malta residency program?

    • @MichaelRosmer
      @MichaelRosmer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you can qualify for this without being tax resident so assuming you are tax resident it depends a bit on your income sources but in principle you can qualify for their non-dom program under which you're taxable only on Maltese source income and income remitted to Malta, which is great.
