    Was able to contact Kaito, they told me the "Scheduled Recording" mode was a mistake made on the box. It was not an option, and will not be able to be added. They were going to block off all the text on the boxes, but thought to leave it alone. Glad to get a quick answer. The KA700 does include this option. Its basic, but works.

    Amazing functionality don't think I've ever seen a radio that does so much especially given the compact size. It is a short coming that a radio that does so much doesn't offer another battery source would be afraid of running out of power on a regular basis. I love all the functions the radio is capable though. Great review keep up the good work.

      That is my main issue with a radio like this, but the bonus for me is I keep a steady rotation of these BL-5Cs(10 or so) charged and ready to go. That's one of the reasons I bought one.

    Nice radio. I like the record off the air with pause function. I would have loved to have this radio as a kid to record the cbs radio mystery theater off the air. 🙂 cool stuff.

      I remember "Black Muesum" and CBS Radio Mystery on the dial also.

    Crane Witness Plus review anytime? It has a timer.

    Excellent review! One thing that would be interesting would be to know about how long it takes to charge its internal BL-5C off the solar panel in direct sunlight. The record feature has me very tempted! -Chuck

      It is decent at recording, bonus for recording stereo. Found out its a MP2 format, 32Khz @ 128Kbps. The record/pause function is nice. The only issue I found out is the "scheduled record" function that is advertised on the box can't be done on the device. I sent an email to customer support over at Kaito to see if the radio needs a firmware update, or if this feature was removed. Will keep everyone updated.

      It says in the manual " Solar panel is designed to run the radio under sunlight; it can also charge the battery pack at a very slow rate. So theoretically it will charge the battery, but it is better to crank it to charge the battery." I'm guessing more then fifteen hours of direct sunlight. So if you don't need it for a day or two and your trying to stay green, go for it :)

      @@sparkdetect I think it charges at 50 mA on the Degen DE13 and this looks like an identical solar panel. So yeah should be about 16 hours for a 800 mAh battery.
      Handcrank (at optimal speed) charges at 120 mA.

    Great review. I have the same radio and I enjoy it. One advertised function of the radio is timed scheduled recording. I was wondering if you can demonstrate how that is done. I can’t figure it out and I didn’t see directions in the owner’s manual. Thank you.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, I couldn't figure it out either. If I do I'll put up a video.

      I checked out my radio and found no timer record function. I think if this was implemented it would be very basic like their other radios. I read that it is a one time use and has to be reset daily. I emailed their Tech support and will let you know if I get an answer. Maybe we need a firmware update.

      I thought it was too, noticed that when changing the EQ settings and seeing a change right away.

    Is the Tivdio HR-11s (or Hr-11w) essentially the same radio as this Kaito KA680? The Tivdio seems to have more features for less money, but I am probably just confused. Is the HR-11s/w enough different to deserve a TH-cam test of it's own? Also, in your research, does any portable radio have a good 'Timed Recording' feature for MP-3 (SD/Mini-SD cards)?

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only timed recorder I have is the Kaito KA700 which isn't fantasitc just starts the recording, no timer stop, there is the CC Witness that I may get one day for review...money permitting. The HR-11W is the same as this Kaito. It used to cost more so I bought this one, then the price dropped hard on the Tivdios. I saw a lightening deal for the HR-11W for $18.00 when I bought my HR-11S. I just didn't want to buy the same radio again.

      Brian 87.7MHZ KA680 radios can tune down to 64 MHz on FM, and 9 kHz or 10 kHz AM tuning steps. Also have NOAA 7 channels. You should buy that Tivdio HR-11W (no shortwave. Only HR-11S have shortwave) .

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend Brian purchases the KA680, because in North America we have a warranty through Kaito USA. Also because they are a similar price.

    This is also the Tivdio HR-11W. Price is a little high for a shameless China radio. I hope this one tested well

      The band scan goes up tonight, it isn't fantastic at AM dxing. But everything local, and near local sounds good. Big bonus is the FM Stereo and the ability to record it in Stereo. It is missing a feature, like the scheduled recording function, must not be implemented or its a different firmware.

    How is it compared to KA600L and KA500L? Thank you

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 600L is probably the best of the three, followed by the 500.

    I'm just curious if this has water resistance. I've been searching for a small solar bluetooth radio that's water resistant, so I'd love to know your suggestions.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I can think off, I have seen single BT speakers with a simple FM receiver in them that are suppose to be waterproof, but no solar.

      @@todderbert I guess I maybe asking too much for the perfect emergency radio... I guess if I'd let go some functions, the Eton FRX4 is my current best bet. Thanks for your knowledge kind Sir =)
