      @@JulieWarren I'm just wondering if, when there are multiple hallways, they should all be decorated with the same paper/paint colours. I know its personal choice but interested in what you think looks best

    I always had a fascination for miniatures and yourself and Ara Bentley have really got me back into the dollhouse scale. I was always into 1:6th but find I want everything in 1:12th these days! Your house is gorgeous!

    This was a great tutorial Julie. I loved all your ‘thinking out loud’, it’s all part of the fun! I’m glad you put in the stringer (it was me who mentioned it to you’) the stairs look so much more realistic with that feature added. Your whole staircase looks super. And the stud wall, that is great! I’m just in the process of making an under stairs cupboard for my wartime house. I made one in another of my houses and they really do look good and make good use of the space beneath the stairs. I just love these dollshouse diaries - Thankyou 😊

      Oh, how I wish someone had mentioned this to me - 6 staircases ago...........I dislike the way mine look, but fortunately it is only possible to catch glimpses of the stairs through open doorways.

    I always find myself answering any questions you ask or giving my opinion when you’re having a think about what you’re going to do. Out loud. Then my husband or kids ask me who I’m talking to and I say Julie. Then they ask on speaker phone? 🤦🏼‍♀️ Any way, another lovely tutorial as always. Looking forward to the Patreon tub surround.

    It's amazing how much the right scale makes the dollhouse look like a "real" house. I understand why it has to be chunkier if little children are meant to play with it, but it looks so much better. The old railing looks so grotesque compared to your new railing.

    • @JulieWarren
      @JulieWarren  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Exellent episode of DH Diary as always!! In my DH I altered the top floor (it had walls but no doors) and I made the bathroom slightly smaller to incorporate a short corridor with a linen/store cupboard at the end complete with a "bare" lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. I like the secret details and I like things to look like they'd work in the real world.

    I have the classic dolls house and ordinarily, the stairs are walled in. However, I removed the stair wall on the ground floor so as to open up the room a little more. I used the under stairs to house the body of a spinet. The front is clearly visible and the girl can be seen sitting there to play. It has added a good deal of extra room. I have also added a bookcase to the back wall where it would not normally be seen.

    • @JulieWarren

Could you please tell me the opening floor dimensions and the distance from the back wall in your dollhouse. I am also using 2 floors with stairs in the same position as your dollhouse. Mine is also left wall stairs @. Thank you.

    I know this video is older, but I was a little worried when you talked about not being able to see the upstairs railing because you didn't look through the door in the guest bedroom. Will that be kept closed? If not, can you see the stairwell from the guest bedroom?

    • @JulieWarren
      @JulieWarren  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not too sure what you mean, Rosie? You can only see the stairwell through the door if you look through the side window - or put your head right into the room! :)

      Hi Flor, even if the doors are slightly uneven, you can still create a frame to sit the door into, even if it's slightly higher on one side, then just build the door to fit into it. I hope that helps. :)

I also love the ideas you have with the bathroom, and the hall =)) I may have missed this in an earlier video.. but I haven't see all the videos as of yet. How would you get to the room to the left?? I see that you have a doorway to the room to the right of the hall, but how would they get to the other room. would you have to walk thought the bathroom to get to the room to the left.??
    Thank you for all your help? videos as well as walking us all thought how to do the projects we are working on.

    Definitely on the 4th wall - where it would probably be in "Real Life". Because of the real layout of my Obsession, I have all of the fireplaces on the 4th wall.
    Wish I were able to be a Patreon! I have recently decided that I need to enclose the bathtub in my 1938 bathroom. These are surprisingly hard to find ready-made.
    "It should be completely square - I'm pretty certain that the doll house is square"...................so glad yours is................there are some places in my Obsession that appear to have been constructed by a blind, drunken, ogre using a piece of limp pasta instead of a measuring rule, and vegetables as tools................
    Anyone have any suggestions on a platform I can use to show photos of some parts of this project (as soon as they are presentable)? I do not use Facebook, but am willing to explore other options.
    Thanks, Julie, for another fun and instructive episode!
