Grow Roses Indoors Under Lights: Mars TS 1000W LED Grow

  • There are a few things roses don’t love about growing indoors (typically): lower light levels, reduced air circulation, and indoor humidity can be quite low - particularly when the home is being heated in winter or using air conditioning in summer. Add to that the challenges of growing your plants in containers, and it means you’ll have to work a little harder to keep your roses healthy and growing well indoors.
    That doesn’t mean it can’t be done - and I never let common sense get in my way before, so in this video I’ll set up a trial of 16 roses outside, and a matched set of 16 in a grow tent and under an LED grow lamp provided to me by Mars Hydro.
    Thanks to Mars for their support in making this video. The lamp they provided is the TS 1000W, and here’s the link to their listing: bit.ly/2QyTUbq
    I can also recommend the SP series as slightly higher listed efficiency and more attractive fixture (but different footprint, so match to your growing space): bit.ly/2N78Rzh
    If you’re considering buying any of these LED lights, you can use the promo code “ROSE” for a small discount on your purchase - plus a portion of your purchase will be paid back to this channel. I’m hoping it’s an agreeable way for you to support my efforts while also exploring another aspect of your hobby.

    Hello! Your channel is so helpful. I'm growing a Damask rose from a seed packet indoors. I'm planning on starting by putting 3 seeds in the pot, in African Violet Soil mix (perlite and Coco Coire included) and setting it up next to our brightest sunniest south window. I live in PA and we have some muggy summers. I was hoping to transfer the rose eventually to my (also indoor) sun room, which is the sunniest room, but also muggy in the summer. I could open many windows for air flow in there. Could this work? Any other recommendations based off the information I provided? Thanks!

      Yes, for sure - better air flow and ventilation is very welcome for roses.

    What light can you use outdoors? My roses are in extreme shade at this time. And I want to have a rose climber out front where there is shade 24/7.

      It's an unusual request! Most the of the newer LEDs are made for indoor or greenhouse use, and wouldn't be expected to take the weather. You could look at some of the LED COB security lights - they wouldn't be as full spectrum or efficient, but are housed for outdoor use.

    Great video. Thanks. Is it safe for the garden to compost the infected leaves, or must on dispose of them elsewhere, such as to cook them into biochar?

    I bought a 35W light for indoor plants. Is this adequate for an indoor miniature hybrid rose? Is it true that I need a lower wattage on alternate days? What wattage for the two alternating days, Day One versus Day Two? Can I order miniature roses from you?

    How much hours of light would a plant require per day?

    • @FraserValleyRoseFarm
      @FraserValleyRoseFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roses are not sensitive to daylength, but more hours=more energy. I went with 16 hours or so. 12 would be fine. Some plants respond differently to changes in light hours.

  • @jimmycve
    @jimmycve 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What's your light schedule? How many hours on and off for blooming?

    • @FraserValleyRoseFarm
      @FraserValleyRoseFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been doing 12 hours if the LED is the sole source of lighting. 8 hours if it's just supplemental to sunlight.

    • @FraserValleyRoseFarm
      @FraserValleyRoseFarm  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You sure can. Roses don't respond to day length the way cannabis does - just to overall light energy

    • @FraserValleyRoseFarm
      @FraserValleyRoseFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So long as you attend to all their other environmental needs, there's no real limit to what you can grow indoors. Some plants are easier & more practical through. Succulents, tropicals, cacti, forcing bulbs.
