    It's one of my top 10 favorites now. It's an excellent traveler and writes perfectly

    The grip section is meme worthy lol

    I bought the solid blue one last year and absolutely fell in love with the mechanism and feel of the pen. The I saw the “demo” version and the green one came out and now I have three. They are fantastic and I love the broad nib, it’s so smooth and juicy.
    My only “negative” comment is that the pen/mechanism do not jive with shimmer inks at all.
    Great review as always!

    My biggest concern with the Nexus was the grip, and it looks more and more like I would not get along with it. Bummer, I was really intrigued with this one.

      It also looks like cheap

      The was my biggest concern as well because I despise metal grips. The nexus and gravitas metal grips are exceptional while helping to avoid slipping.

      The grip style somewhat resembles the one on the Faber Castell Loom, which is the most uncomfortable pen I own. (Also, the pen is too expensive for me.)

    • @davidnygard1817
      @davidnygard1817 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If this was less expensive, i would consider using a mid-level mesh to rough up the grip section to have a more flat appearance and be easier to grip.

      I have a special version, body from steel version but with gold fine nib.
      And I am very happy with it specially the sealing function is perfect, because the pen is transported in a bike poket and I never had problems with leaking. Where all the other pens (visconti, caran d ache, pilot) failed
      And also perfect for left handed

  • @McAmeron089III

    Good on Diplomat for trying something unique in the ink-supply shut-off mechanism. I know they make quality pens. Their prices tend to be rather high imho.
    I have a Diplomat Esteem,Lapis Black #5 steel nib on order,a nothin fancy pen that retails for about $86 currently. I have come to appreciate slip-cap pens very much. The Excellence A2 is on my radar as well.
    At about the same price as a Pilot Custom 823 with its #15 Pilot 14kt nib,it's hard for me to justify the price of the Nexus. That one special shut-off feature is interesting/novel but that's about it. It looks to be easier to clean than the 823.

    I love the idea of another way to fly with a fountain pen without making it a vac filler, which I'm not a fan of. Very clever design.

    • @jacobus57
      @jacobus57 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Japanese shut off eyedropper is an elegantly simple and very reliable system. This is unnecessarily complicated.

    If they bring the filling setup to something without a slick metal section, it'll be a fantastic pen in my mind. I rather like the Japanese style eyedroppers.

    • @HomerIncognito
      @HomerIncognito 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a common issue with German designs, a lot of Faber Castells and Lamys have slick metal sections too :/

    • @dtaggartofRTD
      @dtaggartofRTD 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@HomerIncognito yeah, I guess they have a design preference over there.
      Smooth sections are kinda frustrating. I picked up the hobby for ergonomic reasons, and the smooth sections just cause the same issues as ballpoints.

  • @jubnx2781

    It’s almost like a vacum fill but it fills with a pipette and seals and unseals automatically with the cap.
    Pretty cool I’d say.

  • @mtbrdude

    Nobody likes a slippery grip on their pens. I honestly don't understand how they can be clever enough to design the filling system but overlook one of the simplest design features....

    A nice review David. I acquired my Nexus last year when only the blue and black models were available. I acquired my black model with and extra fine nib as a Goulet Pen Bottom self Sale pen. When I received it, the tines were misaligned and it wrote very scratchy as a result. I was able to re-align the nib and smoothed out the nib using 2 grades of Mylar. Now it is a fantastic writing pen. One thing to watch out for, over time the section may stick in the down position, and that's a sign it needs a thorough cleaning, I think.

    The pen actually outsources filling to the user and has no mechanism for filling. It's really eyedropping... so why the 316USD price? What else does it have, besides plastic and what looks like a flimsy, cheap clip? 316USD??? Really?????

    • @williamgillett6090

  • @PalashBackup

    Eyedropping is my favourite way to fill a pen. I love the shut off valve too, like the Opus 88. Combine that with Diplomat steel nibs that are really well perfming.
    I will definitely consider buying one of these in the future.

    I purchased the Nexus when it was released last year, and I think it is a great pen 😊 For me, the section is not slippery at all but I honestly have never problems with any kind of pen section - my hands are dry as sand, almost as if they were genetically set up for fountain pen use 😂 However, the pen would be perfect if it was postable.

  • @user-qt1fd1uq2n
    @user-qt1fd1uq2n 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have one in blue. I found it to be a bit heavier than I like, but the bigger issuw was sharp edges on the ink window. I put some heat shrink tubing over it. I was surprised that the window edges weren’t beveled. They bothered me every time I picked up the pen. For that reason alone I would suggest going with the acrylic version over the metal version. I had no problems with the grip being slippery. The pen writes beautifully but I would like it more if it were 10 grams lighter.

    The reservoir closure mechanism is an interesting idea and could potentially work with any filling system. But I'm not sure what you're *really* gaining from it. I suppose it could help to keep a reservoir from getting out if you left a pen unattended for literal years, but is that a problem someone who would buy this pen is going to actually have?

    • @jacobus57
      @jacobus57 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks so much for your review. Very thorough and professional as always! Yea, the grip is not my style at all. You need a little stop point at the end of the grip where it transitions to the nib fitting. Otherwise my cold fingers tend to slip on cold metal. My worst pen purchase is the Faber-Castell Essentio Pink Aluminum with the cold hard aluminum grip. Did I mention it’s aluminum? And it’s cold. The perpendicular circular ring cutouts are not helpful. They don’t help the grip at all.

  • @joeldoxtator9804

    It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how well eye dropper would work with my work flow.
    I would also be interested if the nib conversion sleeve for platinum nib and feed for Jowo #6 would fit in this pen.

    Are the threadings in the cap metal too? Else I wonder what the tension from the sealing action would do to the threads.

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes. Blocky, metal threads. I don't imagine the tension will have much affect on them.

  • @Overonator
    @Overonator 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So for $316 I get a plastic and metal pen with a steel nib that is an essentially an eyedropper? That $316 doesn't justify the "innovative" sealing system which is just a spring loaded sealing mechanism.

  • @NubiBuiltKatchr
    @NubiBuiltKatchr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I respectfully disagree David. Regardless of novelty, if I’m going to pay north of $300 I’m expecting a gold or titanium nib, at least.

    exactly which part connects with the cap to force the spring down ? please dont tell me the tip of the nib, that would kill the nib !
    also stupid of them to do a demonstrator but not going fully clear !
    I would not pay that kind of inflated price (USD300++) for a pen that is this ugly and uses affordable material like SS jowo 6 nib !
    We dont even know how well it writes too.
    I hope some company would clone it for a fraction of the price, i hope Majohn does it.

    The section is a joke. I mean, Diplomat isn’t new to the game. What genius decided this slip monster of a grip/section was a good idea? he/she should be fired.
