深: deep, mysterious, ethereal... 沉: deep, heavy, profound, severe, etc... (some of the meanings) so 深沉, means REALLY DEEP. there is this line in a piece of 宋词: 庭院深深 深几许。。。 well, it's a way chinese poets/writers would describe the 'gravity' of '深'. this also reminds me of a pop rock band called: wet wet wet... kind of a play of words, or rhetorics i guess.
深 means deep - we usually say a river is 深, like "deep water". 深沉 also means deep - we usually describe a person with this word, like "this man is deep" That's how we normally use it.
I still think Concubine Wu still gets the short end of the stick! in this opera! Does anyone know how long these two performed together? I love Classical Chinese Opera! Thanks for posting!
@hr1dave you should, but know that the opera shows can last for a pretty LONG time. In Europe it's most of the time not more than 4 hours, but in China it could take maybe 5 hours.

That seems to be the case in recent years. But at the start it purged the famous opera singers and other singers such as Chou shuan who was forced into suicide. Communists considered them as the leftovers of feudalism and capitalism. The present Beijing government is no longer a real communist government. They reserve some discipline while allowing revival of arts and traditional values. I praise them for that! This is a government that has saved China from Mao's radicalism and dictatorship.
@MrTargumon In recent years,男同 女同 implies gay and lesbian in mandarin. I cannot understand what do you mean by 我是见同的女的全视频 either. Moreover,同性人的女性 is not a proper phrase, I think what u wanna say is 同性恋的女性.
