I literally watch every single one of your videos and there has always been something about your personality that I find similar to mine but I could never place it until now. When you answered the question of how you get so many things accomplished, it made all the sense. That thing makes a world of difference for me and also allows me to elevate my design process, and then execute my over zealousness. Beautiful box. The roubo bench, if you build it so you can see the arch through the split that make it a split top. If not than go solid top with a different color wood in the middle to represent the lines that divide the road since it looks like a bridge.

I'll say I"m an old guy and I love it, so you're not pissing all of us off by breaking the mold! I love your use of arches. Straight lines can be nice but tastefully done curves take it to the next level, IMHO.

My favorite wood in the world is Macassar Ebony. I’ve built a lot out of it in solid lumber (the stuff is SOOOO heavy and dense) but never tried veneer! Great stuff!!

I like Andrew Kleins bench with split top, complemented by a movable center piece. It can be a split top, solid top or ithat center board can be moved up half an inch, so it creates a stop in the middle to rest or wedge your workpiece against.
stunning design Nick... My mentor used veneer almost exclusively. The exotic grain and cost effective approach to design lends it self to veneer. Well done. I picked up a few tips I'm gonna have to put to use.
That is one dope build. The angled dovetails are blowing my mind! Love the workhandling solution for the drawers to get the piston fit. Might steal that. Do a solid top, with a slim tool well added, but use a spacer to get you the split. Hope that makes sense. Just recently found your channel, but quickly became one of my favorites. You have some amazing pieces and your video production is on point. Great work!

When you have a sweet glass collection such as that, you need the proper case/box. Your box beats the pants off the glass industry standard issue plastic gun case. More blowers should take the hint!
I would say Split top - but with a filler that lets you have it all ways. That said and out of the way.... The box is amazing, the previous one was also amazing. Watching your design esthetic evolve and mature and then seem to be on a path until - BAM - Left Turn Clyde - and away we go! oh, and for the record, the 80's were rough...lol

Thanks John! The videos are definitely starting to be more fun and flow a little more. I used a combo of trim glue(quick&thick) and starbond CA as a clamp while the PVA dries

1. That shelf top draw is so super cool. Great piece of work there. 2. I notice you sand the surface for finish. Why not a sharp plane. Is there too much risk of tear out at that stage of the build. 3. Gotta mention your devotion to excellence. Your drive to do better and strive for the best. Your products are beyond what my mainly hand tool shop can do but I look forward to you making available some of the simpler designs you have made (as complex as they are). And I get into dovetales so bad. Double dovetales and hounds tooth are where ever I can use them.
Hey thanks so much, Danny! I usually don’t plane panels because the veneer is so thin and tear-out will result in quite an unsightly error. Also really hard to achieve a line-free surface with a smoother and supporting a box to be planed is tricky. Sanding achieves a finer result.
Definitely split top - love the functionality of them... but maybe make the split top's gap/tool well mirror the curvature of the legs/aprons? Regardless, I pretty much dig every single design you come up with, so I'm sure it'll be fantastic.
I'm digging the inspiration and execution. I heard you mention steam bending... Have you looked into bending with heat blankets? I'm making a side bending heater for making acoustic guitar sides right now. It will use a 6x36 blanket. I found a maker who can do custom sized silicone heaters. I also made a controller that uses a thermocouple and will keep the blanket within just a few degree range, so you can find the "sweet spot" and it will be repeatable every time... Just thought I'd throw that one out to you.

Definitely split top - love the functionality of them... but maybe make the split top's gap/tool well mirror the curvature of the legs/aprons? Regardless, I pretty much dig every single design you come up with, so I'm sure it'll be fantastic.

I'm digging the inspiration and execution. I heard you mention steam bending... Have you looked into bending with heat blankets? I'm making a side bending heater for making acoustic guitar sides right now. It will use a 6x36 blanket. I found a maker who can do custom sized silicone heaters. I also made a controller that uses a thermocouple and will keep the blanket within just a few degree range, so you can find the "sweet spot" and it will be repeatable every time... Just thought I'd throw that one out to you.
