A really neat rules interaction with Denry Klin that is worth noting is the interaction between his two abilities, since he enters the battlefield with a chosen counter on him, his second ability will trigger off of himself entering the battlefield. resulting in him entering the battlefield with eigther, 2 First Strike counters, 2 Vigilance counters or 2 +1/+1 counters. and this goes even further, you can even put counters on Denry in response to his second ability, so if you play an instant that adds another +1/+1 counter before his second ability resolves, he effectively double any of those counters. i love this commander.
Does it actually work like that?? Looks like a bit of a weird design then, having the possibility of getting 2 vigilance counters on a creature (without any other spell) feels redundant to say the least haha
It really works in that way, because the first ability isn’t triggered, but the way the creature enters the battlefield. Since it has the counter since even before hitting the board, the other ability actually triggers.
@@johnlately4067 Yes it does! I actually did some more research and it works that way, because his first ability is a replacement ability, so it triggers *before* it enters the battlefield, so the second ability always triggers after the first, which means it always sees Denry with a counter on him, and generates another one :) And the nature of his second ability (a "Whenever [...], if [...], then [...] triggered ability) means you can respond to it with any spell that can put counters on him at instant speed, and the ability will trigger for all of them + the one from the first ability, effectively doubling any counters you put on him this way. Very nerdy mechanics but hey it works :D
Dendry is actually really strong. Persist and dendry is lit. Dendry and glen alandra is an amazing control board state. Eternal 1 mana counterspells for all the removal that can touch them pretty much
Excuse me, but how is this jank? I absolutely love all the cards you put in this deck! I was looking for something that did exactly this, but got lost in Perrie, the Pulverizer and Atraxa lists because no one really considers Denry Klin a viable commander. You're the best!
Hmm Planar Birth. That's an old one. It made me think of a deck idea though. Esper or jeskai wheels with cards in the deck either tucking away certain cards, foretelling, suspending, exile and play this turn etc etc. You cherry pick the cards you want to keep while forcing players to keep ditching their hands. Then go with the planar birth, and now you've got enough mana to do well anything I suppose or depending on what triggers you build k to the deck you might just be ending the game. Neat lol. Awesome poll this time around. I've built a lot of the background commanders, and they tend to be very synergistic and strong actually. I've done Wilson/raised by giants fight theme, abdel/candlekeep sage and agent of the Iron throne blink/ reanimator, vhal/street urchin artifact aristocrats, lazel/master chef superfriends, and ganax/haunted one dragons. They're real good!
Elspeth resplendent seems auto include for me, avenging huntbonder and wingfold pteron also nice if you can move the hexproof counter with ozolith or aven courier
