Listen to your grandfather. Shortening the trailer is a good idea. See if you can find the axle weight ratings. Those axles may be 3500lb units, so that is 7000 total. By the time you outfit the trailer with a deck, you will be approaching 2000lbs for the curb weight of the empty trailer, so that leaves approx 5000 lbs you can haul. So shortening the trailer will make it lighter. I would leave the front as is, cut the back and angle it down so your low ground clearance cars can climb the trailer. That is called a dovetail. That plus long ramps will help load low vehicles.
Go to a place that sells trailers and take some measurements of a trailer that you like, and then you will know where to put the axles. You can buy those little brackets that hold the leaf springs at tractor supply if you do not want to try and save the old ones.

Yup, I'm going to listen to him! Shorten the trailer and move the brakes forward. I think they'll be salvageable, just take my time cutting and cleaning them up. I tried checking the Axles for the weight they can handle but the tag is too worn out, but im sure it's more then enough for a car. I've already looked at some designs online, going to draw out some dimensions and cutting it up in the next episode.

Thats sick dude! Great idea , loved the organic pill capsule 😂 definitely took the camper from worthless to probably worth a couple grand now. Just some deck boards and ramps and your set

Thanks man, im looking forward to having it completed. Should be a pretty nice flatbed once it's done. I have never seen those capsules in my life, so it was very interesting! 😂 but yes already just having it down to the frame it's worth more. Don't plan on selling it but is definitely a cost effective way to get yourself a nice flatbed.
