In all seriousness though, it's pretty entertaining seeing someone evaluate the music of the kirby series from an outsider perspective, especially since you're getting submitted some of the most climactic and impressive tracks. There are definitely plenty of simple, chipper songs in every game, but even those tend to carry a level of complexity and intensity to them that makes the sound of Kirby music stand out.

There’s also a second rule of Kirby where if you’re the antagonist you either become Kirby’s friend and owe him favours eternally, or he just full out kills you. Whether that be eviscerating your body, destroying your soul, sending you to Hell, or hitting you with a semi truck hard enough to punch a planet out of orbit. You shake Kirby’s hand or you suffer painfully before you stop living.

Morally reprehensible?? She's *entirely* a victim bro. Her only mistake was trusting that her best friend got her a nice gift (which he STOLE) that wouldn't corrupt her soul. Taranza is a simp that wasn't even corrupted by anything (save for his twitch sub) when he assaulted a bunch of Waddle Dees, kidnapped Dedede and forced him to fight his friend against his will. He even implies that doing that was his plan when he says that HE saw through the plan of the Floralians, and seemed pretty gung-ho about the whole world domination bit until the second he found out the girl he was simping for was career first.

A beautiful song for one of the most tragic characters of Kirby.
Sectonia was originally a kindhearted queen, who loved and was loved, but one day, she received a mirror from her best friend Taranza. However, what none of them knew was that the mirror was cursed. As Sectonia looked into it, with time, she changed. She turned cruel and egotistical. She became obsessed with beauty. She changed her own appearance. She conquered the sky and planned to conquer the rest of the world, enslaving everyone. And Taranza, all the while, followed her, blinded by love.
In any story, this would end with the queen being freed of the curse, the mirror destroyed, and everyone would live happily ever after.
Not here... With no way to bring her back, her mind lost to madness, the queen is given her eternal beauty sleep under the moonlight, and canonically, the mirror is left where it is, intact. And the worst part, Taranza, betrayed by Sectonia, his eyes opened to her madness, is forced to help in putting her down.
Yep, that's from a cute and happy-go-lucky Kirby game.

@@lucar1154 I mean they have fairly similar tragedies, but the reason I think Haltmann's character is more tragic are:
That his decent into madness began for selfless reasons.
That it wasn't some evil force that corrupted him, but an unfinished and faulty program which robs him of his emotions and he of it's good purpose. (Basically it's more tragic due to how preventable the whole thing was)
That there was still something of him left that recognised Susie.
That Susie's reckless actions pretty directly lead to the complete erasure of Haltmann dooming him completely.
Was about to say "how gruesome his death is", but yea Sectonia got that covered as well.

Had to drop _everything_ the moment I saw this in my sub feed, LOL
God, Moonstruck Blossom still makes me teary to this day- it plays for the character Queen Sectonia, who I was CRAZY about for YEARS after this game came out, bc she's a really tragic character-- an beautiful insect queen who was driven mad with vanity after staring into an almost-certainly-cursed-as-all-getout mirror; the main antagonistic force throughout the game is her _"partner",_ a princely fellow named Taranza who is obviously head-over-heels for her, and there's a significant amount of subtext that suggests he's only doing what he does in a vain attempt to free her from her corruption... but by the time you come face to face with her, she's already too far gone and you have no choice but to put her down. Even in future games where Taranza appears, it's painfully obvious he still hasn't gotten over her and is tortured by it
I love that main vocal instrument they chose- it's easy to imagine it as, like... Sectonia's last, wistful & resigned sighs, like the music itself presents one last glimpse at the remaining vestiges of her sanity, sadly singing in melancholic mourning

    • @negativezero8287
      @negativezero8287 ปีที่แล้ว +17

I personally always imagined it as her singing the song itself, and I think it wraps it all into a beautiful, tragic bow. Honestly, the backstory to Triple Deluxe has to be one of the saddest stories in the series, only rivaled by Robobot.
Also, one of the SADDEST parts of the game is in the original Japanese; in one of the pause screens that give lore, and instead of it being from third person, it's from Sectonia herself, and the final line is heartbreaking. "Before dawn breaks, bring me... eternal sleep.."
you can probably guess why that was changed in the US.

Sectonia is a very tragic character, and that's represented incredibly well in her boss theme. Once a benevolent ruler, she became corrupted by a dark and cursed mirror given to her by her lover (who didn't know what the mirror did, of course), and she slowly became a vanity-obsessed and power-hungry tyrant, attempting to turn everything in her kingdom to match her own twisted perception of "beauty". The form you first see her in is not even her original form; she changed her own appearance to something that was more "beautiful" in her eyes.
So Kirby fights her, and her former lover helps him destroy her. But that's not the end of it. Sectonia comes back, losing the last bit of sanity she had left along with any lingering memories of who she used to be. The only thing that can be done for her now is to give her the beauty sleep she so maddeningly desires.

As for composers, the series has two major composers, Jun Ishikawa which started from the first game, Kirby's Dream Land in 1992, and Hirokazu Ando, who is Lead Sound composer, starting from the second game, Kirby's Adventure in 1993. These two have been the sole composers for the mainline Kirby games (Except Amazing Mirror and Squeak Squad) up until Star Allies in 2018 where they started bringing on new composers. Moonstruck Blossom and Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit were Hirokazu Ando, while Gourmet Race is composed by Jun Ishikawa.

In regards to the title, it just got translated officially in two different ways for some reason. It seems like Fatal Blooms in Moonlight is the one they're officially sticking with, but fans like Moonstruck Blossom a lot more. The Japanese title of the song means "Madness's Flower, Water's Moon", a pun on the Japanese idiom "Mirror Flower, Water Moon" which refers to beautiful things that can't be attained/aren't real, like a flower reflected in a mirror or the moon reflected in water. As for Eternal Dream, that is its name in English and Japanese.
I mentioned earlier a part 2 to Moonstruck Blossom called The World to Win, in Japanese, that song is titled "Battle of Souls for this Star/Planet".

The 25th anniversary memorial album is an official album released by HAL and their amazing music team. The 25th anniversary album was the beginning of a seemingly new trend of anniversary music events and albums. The 25th anniversary was also accompanied by merchandise, events at the Kirby Café(s) in Japan, and a live orchestra concert (moonstruck blossom also was included in it). The 30th anniversary also had similar events and a live performance music festival in Japan and was a free event streamed online. (Again moonstruck blossom was included, I recommend listening to it as well!)
HAL Laboratory is separate from Nintendo (at least concerning production and marketing) so the Kirby series has a lot more resources to use and is loved greatly by its developers.
Fun fact: A few of the modern games also have Japan exclusive bonus albums that release alongside their respective game. And the Kirby Café also has 2 albums called “Sounds of the Kirby Café” that play remixed OSTs in the actual restaurant.

i think itreally would be interesting for you to plan a video for the full list of kirby boss music, Because fundamentally kirby music is iterative, a lot of enemies or characters return in some form with updated tracks based on older tracks. if a new boss enemy is in some way related to an enemy from a different game they will put hints of the older game's music themes back into the new boss's theme. waxing and waning moon mask's theme is a combined theme of almost all bos music versions of dedede and meta knights themes for instance, And they even go all out in silly spin off game titles.

To roughly summarize the context for this music, Queen Sectonia is the antagonist of Kirby Triple Deluxe. Shes the tyrannical queen of a kingdom in the skies, but she was once a gentle soul like her trusted partner Taranza. Taranza had feelings for Sectonia, so to impress her he presented her with an object called the Dimensional Mirror, which was actually the main subject of a previous game. This is important because at the end of that game, a great evil (Dark Meta Knight) was sealed within the mirror and had been festering. Sectonia looking into the mirror slowly caused her to be corrupted by Dark Meta Knights evil until she became what she is during the game. She decides shes going to take over Dreamland and sends Taranza to capture Dreamlands hero, so he goes down and mistakes Dedede for that hero, so Kirby gives chase and eventually manages to get Dedede back. At this point Taranza realizes what they're doing is wrong, and that something is wrong with Sectonia, and there's no way for things to go back to normal, so he teams up with Kirby and Dedede to end her life. This music is the theme to that boss battle

I used to dislike this theme back when I was a kid playing triple deluxe, but it's grown on me more and more over time until now I'm blown away by it.

I want to note, there's a theme called "The World to Win" in this game that's basically a Part 2 to Moonstruck Blossom. There's also an album remix called "Midnight Moonlight (Forever-Sleeping Flower)" which is a remix medley of Moonstruck Blossom and The World to Win that I think is the best version of these two themes.

A reoccurring leitmotif in Kirby music is what’s known among the fanbase as the “Green Greens” leitmotif.
Green Greens is the first level in the first Kirby game, and its main melody has been included in almost every final boss theme since Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, which came out on the Wii in 2011.

This brings me back to the reaction of Big Arms from Sonic 3/Generations, one of my top-top favourite game series where Jesse just listens to it and goes _"This is the music I do this for."_
The difference being I never heard the operatic mix of this song, and it gave me *_chills,_* so many _chills!_
Btw the 25th Anniversary remixes were just a standalone thing they released, I remember listening to some on the Wii U eShop. And yes, there have been multiple composers across the series, in the two latest releases the sound test changes colours according to who composed the track you're currently listening to.
HAL Laboratory (the Kirby dev team) just pours their heart and soul into these songs, they make *sure* the music is memorable, _especially_ for final bosses.

Something about Kirby music brings an attraction to how its presented as you play through the game. You would start off on an adventure to retrieve your stolen cheesecake from the big bad with jolly upbeat soundtrack in the beginning of the game and you have fun. Then you find the cheesecake to then find out that a bigger bad is planning to take over the planet with dark powers and the music goes to an epic adventure where it still retains a joyous aspect with fun but also an element of danger and from there it goes up. Kirby is just wild and fun game especially just listening to the final boss themes that just become bangers out of nowhere 😂

final comment on its own, i think this boss theme is made up out of its own elements, but then intermingled are themes from throughout the game, kind of to represent the clash between kirby and said boss

There's so much to listen to that you might as well listen a fan medley of all the boss themes of kirby. Comes with visual reference as well, but the music might be too modified, just a 20 minute sneek peek.

There's a couple of parts of the first song that remind me a little of Kirby's Air Ride, interesting. I wonder if it's still Ishikawa Jun, who's done most of Kirby music throughout the series.
The second one gave me big Amdapor vibes, from FFXIV. This makes me realise I really need to play the modern Kirby games, there's probably a ton I've missed out on since Epic Yarn.

Kirby music is never what you expect from looking at the game, astral void to roar of dedede, it's also never what you expect when you know the series well
Except for green greens, always expect green greens
