"I tell you to ENJOY life. I wish I could, but it's too late. "...Ozzy had lots of controversy over the years over misunderstood, or misconstrued lyrics and song titles. The " I tell you to end your life " one was one I had until age 14 when my dad told me the actual lyrics. Suicide Solution was a big one. I believe some kid parents blamed that song and the lyrics for their sons Suicide/ death. The song actually talks about how drinking yourself to death or killing yourself Is not the solution. It was written about Bon Scott death. The original singer from AC/DC. He unfortunately drank way too much and passed out in his car . He died in his car. R.I.P. Bon.
Ozzy's voice is an apocalyptic banshee wail, high pitch but full body. It soars over the instrumental thunder for a perfect sonic compliment. Nobody sounds like him.
To me Ozzy's voice (especially in the Sabbath days) just feels like a normal man's cry for help or a cry to be seen. He couldn't really express this feeling while speaking but man when he sung it felt like he just let it all out.
The thing I love about Ozzys voice is that it's just piercing. Regardless of the heavy sounds the band puts out his voice just pierces right through it, not overpowering it, not getting drowned out by it..just piercing right through creating it's own path. Beautiful.
Seriously guys, if you love Sabbath and enjoy rock drumming, check out Sabbath live ‘War Pigs’ 1971 in Paris. Bill Ward, the drummer, is out of this world🤘
Crazy shit about Ozzy. I saw him live 3 or 4 years ago. Dude couldn't assemble a sentence when speaking to the audience. However, he nailed every song. It was a beautiful night. 🤘
My 17 yr old son and I LOVE Ozzy. It breaks my heart that he is the one concert we will never be able to see. I would pay 25 grand to take my boy to see Ozzy.
Glad to see things getting heavy again!😉 Believe it or not , the BEATLES did a hard rock song called Helter Skelter. Seriously different for them, and it seriously rocks. Dont miss it.
The lead guitar player, Tony Iommi is largely considered the father of the power chord, because it is a style he adapted due to losing the tips of one of his fingers on his chording hand
Middle and ring fingers on his right hand. If you look closely on some of the videos, you can see the prosthetic caps he wears. I don't know how he manages to play... pretty sure he can't feel the strings which would make it extremely difficult!
Black Sabbath are the Grandfathers of metal! If you like this, you HAVE to do War Pigs. Lyrically sublime, but musically it's a journey, and Bill Ward (the drummer) kills it throughout.
Ozzy when he was just a pup At age 17 guitarist Tony Iommi lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers of his right hand while working at a sheet metal factory, so he uses metal tips on those fingers when he plays. I've always thought that those metal fingertips pressing the strings against the neck are part of what makes his guitar playing unique.
There were other influences to some point, but basically Black Sabbath were the creators of the genre of Heavy Metal. One cannot underestimate Ozzy as a part of the band, but when he left for awhile, Ronnie James Dio became the vocalist and their music with him is also amazing. For Ozzy, Iron Man, the Wizard (which has harmonica), or War Pigs would be at the top of the list to listen to. For Sabbath with Dio, Heaven and Hell is a masterpiece IMO. BTW, you should read up on how guitarist Tony Iommi lost the tips of his fingers in an accident. And how the actually helped him create his unique sound. It's an amazing story of how one can take adversity and turn it to strength!
Ozzys voice is an overlay of studio effects. In this case alot of reverb and a tight/slapback echo. As tech progressed, to like diary of a madman, there were several effects from a chorus, verb, delay....all overlayed.
It always makes me laugh to think that people freaked out the first time they heard this song. It was the beginning of his breakthrough on an international level. Ozzie can tap into emotions when he is singing that most people are afraid to venture into. You are hearing the pain of his life coming out in song. They woke the world with their energies. They were the first band to stand there and shoot the finger at the world. Love love love
I don't remember anyone freaking out about this song. I remember hearing and liking this song when i was in jr.high but i moved on to to other bands in high school.
Cesar, think about what was going on in the world when music like this was coming out. Around 68-69 when the main bands were forming, you had Vietnam going on and you had the hippie movement going in the states. To go from Bob Dylan and the Beatles singing about peace and love to darker and more depressing sounding songs was a big 180.

Black Sabbath are the reason I'm a proud metalhead today! Ozzy's voice is incredible and unmistakable. It's got sort of an echoing effect. Tony Iommi's guitar playing is beyond legendary! He plays like that due to a smelting accident that cut off the tips of his fingers. Geezer Butler is the most underrated bass players ever. Bill Ward's drumming is unparalleled except for John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Bill Ward is an amazing songwriter too. He wrote one prettiest songs alot of people have never heard. Check out It's Alright and I think you'll agree. Plus Guns n Roses do a great version It's Alright. By the way, I just watched the video of your little girls watching The Beatles. They're absolutely adorable!
I was in my 20's when Black Sabbath came on the scene. What I 1st noticed was not Ozzy but the heaviest heavy metal sound I ever heard back then and It became their staple sound. Ozzy's vocals complimented the heavy metal sound because he only half sings which suits the style. Just my opinion though...
So many great Black Sabbath songs. Two of my favorites that are unique are "Changes" and "The Wizard". Lots of phenomenal songs with Ozzy's solo career. "Mama, I'm Coming Home" is what introduced me to Ozzy, which got me into Black Sabbath. If you do "Crazy Train" do the live version from the Randy Rhodes Tribue album. Way better than the studio version.
They are all killing it. Raw and heavy. Bill Ward, the drummer does not get enough credit, very tight and jazzy. Sabbath swings. Geezer Butler on bass, thick and tight with the drummer. Great guitar from Tony, he pioneered a lot of the elements of heavy metal. Honestly, it's extremely blues based. Good comment on the drummer!

"You know you get heavyness" That's true in most cases. I like it hard, too. but you have to hear also the other side of Ozzy. "Changes", the album version from 1972. A piano, some violins and Ozzy is all itakes for a true masterpiece of a heartbreaking ballad. I could hear to this all day long.
What I love most about Black Sabbath is that they were so deeply aware of what love is, what life is, what are the things that we need to make ourselves happy. Their songs were about the things in life that we need to fight against, or embrace. They were almost irreverent in the way they explained the situations of the world and the mess that we are in. How do we save ourselves not only as a species but also as individuals. Their music was awesome, heavy metal hard-hitting and body shaking. But the lyrics were truth.
Ozzy's voice? I would describe it as half driven/half insane. "Communication Breakdown" by Led Zeppelin should be the next tune to check out if you already haven't.
I love watching people discover new music. I'm always surprised that young people have never heard these wonderful and classic songs. This song is one of my all-time favorites. So glad you were blown away by it. So very pleased that I saw this - you made my morning with your happiness! I once ran across a music elitist and had to ask - "how can you be so closed minded". You guys are totally open minded it would seem and I like that - alot. I'll subscribe and look forward to you exploring all genres; I see you have quite a wall behind you with even the rat pack.
I've always loved what I call "animated" voices. .and Ozzy is certainly that. Two other examples of animated voices are Dave Mustaine of Megadeth (I think you've done only one Megadeth song---need to do more) and the "king" of shock rock...the great Alice Cooper. You haven't touched on Alice yet, I suggest you start with No More Mr. Nice Guy(and Megadeth did a cover version of this song).

We had so many fabulous bands around then, and I saw them all there, and Earls Court, Hammersmith Odeon and Empire Pool Wembley. Pink Floyd at Earls Court was absolutely amazing.

This really isn’t a heavy song but Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes passed away(RIP). There’s a live version of them singing “Be My Baby/Shout” that is FIRE.
Black Sabbath was considered the first true heavy metal band. The unique sound of Tony Iommi's guitar was courtesy of homemade prosthetic fingertips; he had lost them while working at a factory when he was 17. The term "heavy metal" was first coined in the song "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf, and the first heavy metal song is considered to be Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love". I may have mentioned this already, but Black Sabbath, Rainbow, and Deep Purple all had "revolving door" lineups. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, these bands frequently exchanged members. The singers of both Black Sabbath (Ozzy) and Deep Purple (David Coverdale) went on to successful solo careers in the 1980s and 1990s (Coverdale's band, Whitesnake, is one I would recommend).
Try Led Zeppelin's "Communication Breakdown" some time if you like this pace. The coordination between the drums and the guitar is great, and Robert Plant always out-sings Ozzy.
Black Sabbath put the heavy in metal and the metal in heavy. Ground breaking band, all heavy rock bands owe a debt to Black Sabbath, they paved the way.
Only just stumbled across this video but it's so good to see Americans appreciate the British greats Love how you guys don't pause too much and let the music do the talking like 6:24, most other reviewers pause the video 200 times and talk over the music.... Great video!
The line is actually, "I tell you to enjoy life, I wish I could, but it's too late." The heaviness of their sound is largely due to the fact that Tony Iommi tunes his guitar lower than most other players due. He had an accident while working in a factory where a machine cut off his finger tips. He found that to keep playing guitar, he had to tune the strings lower to get more slack in them. And that's the genesis of their sound. That and Bill Ward's drumming.
Yeah, this was young Ozzy in 1970... he would have been around 21 - 22 yrs old at the time. 'Paranoid' was THE song that defined Ozzy's musical direction and he still performs it in concert today. It came about when Sabbath were recording their 2nd album in 1970, the producer wanted another song to fill the record... so Tony Iommi (guitar) came up w/ the riff, Geezer Butler (bass) wrote the lyric... Ozzy came up w/ the melody and it was jammed and recorded in hours. Sabbath thought it was too commercial, but the record company loved it. Initially, the 2nd Black Sabbath album was called 'War pigs'... but their label was nervous about that title while the Vietnam war was still ongoing, so they changed it to 'Paranoid' ... it went to #1 on the UK charts and was a massive hit in the US.
Hey Jay and Amber!!! The line you're trying to "paraphrase" is actually ( I tell you to "enjoy" life I wish "I" could but it's to late).! Plus in the beginning of the song he says " finished with my woman cause she couldn't help me with my life". Great reaction!

R.I.P. Bon.
💯
Well said
Song was released in 1970. Bon Scott died in 1980. They must have been psychic.
Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics, not Ozzy
@@DavidGigg And with his solo stuff is was Bob Daisley, Jake E Lee, Zakk Wyld n others. Very true.
Ozzy's voice is an apocalyptic banshee wail, high pitch but full body. It soars over the instrumental thunder for a perfect sonic compliment. Nobody sounds like him.
I was lucky enough to see them do this in concert in Pittsburgh in 1970. Thanks for doing this reaction, brings back memories.
Me too just got back from the over sea just in time for concert. And if course watch the steelers take over the NFL
Why was it lucky ? I lived in Chicago in the early 70's and their were tons of band's playing there. Was that not the case in Pittsburgh.
Beautiful.
Perfect!!!!
I can only describe Ozzy’s voice as a “Demonic Angel”… the perfect mixture of harmony and emotion…💯😈
Seriously guys, if you love Sabbath and enjoy rock drumming, check out Sabbath live ‘War Pigs’ 1971 in Paris.
Bill Ward, the drummer, is out of this world🤘
Agreed. When I saw it for the first time I kept hitting replay. Totally mind blowing!
This was the first album I bought with my own money. Keep in mind I'm in my sixties
Crazy shit about Ozzy. I saw him live 3 or 4 years ago. Dude couldn't assemble a sentence when speaking to the audience. However, he nailed every song. It was a beautiful night. 🤘
And his voice sounds the same all these years later. The Black Sabbath reunion tour was amazing. The dude is one of a kind!
My 17 yr old son and I LOVE Ozzy. It breaks my heart that he is the one concert we will never be able to see. I would pay 25 grand to take my boy to see Ozzy.

It’s not really metal, it’s hard rock
The lead guitar player, Tony Iommi is largely considered the father of the power chord, because it is a style he adapted due to losing the tips of one of his fingers on his chording hand
*two of his fingers
Middle and ring fingers on his right hand. If you look closely on some of the videos, you can see the prosthetic caps he wears. I don't know how he manages to play... pretty sure he can't feel the strings which would make it extremely difficult!
Think he had to tune the strings down so he could literally feel the music.
He lost them while working at a sheet metal factory.
Literally gave his fingers to metal.
Black Sabbath are the Grandfathers of metal! If you like this, you HAVE to do War Pigs. Lyrically sublime, but musically it's a journey, and Bill Ward (the drummer) kills it throughout.
Ozzy when he was just a pup
At age 17 guitarist Tony Iommi lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers of his right hand while working at a sheet metal factory, so he uses metal tips on those fingers when he plays. I've always thought that those metal fingertips pressing the strings against the neck are part of what makes his guitar playing unique.
Never knew that
Heard this the first time in 1979 at the age of 14. Heavy metal fan to this day. Its so awesome to see current generations appreciating this music.
Black Sabbath - the GOAT of Heavy Metal!! In depth lyrics, hard edge music - just awesome!!
I love you guys you take me back ive been to 4concerts all ozzy bless you guys and thank you
Ozzys voice is an overlay of studio effects. In this case alot of reverb and a tight/slapback echo. As tech progressed, to like diary of a madman, there were several effects from a chorus, verb, delay....all overlayed.
SUPERNAUT! Heavy riff and drum solo....IT is one of there mopst powerful songs...Good Luck BP THanks to you both.
Especially when the hippie movement was going on in the states. Go from wearing flowers in your hair to singing about being paranoid.
@@matthewdrake4385 Right? I mean, dear gods, my parents were still listening to Perry Como and the Crew Cuts. This was off the charts of their experience, not to mention their perception.
Guitarist is Tony Iommi is the guitarist for BLACK SABBATH the greatest bands of all time
Ozzy had the gift of singing with the riff. His voice goes up and down in key.
Had? You mean has.
Tony Iommi = The Riff Master!
OMG, J. No No No ... the verse goes "... and so as you hear these words telling you now of my fate, I tell you to enjoy life, I wish I could but I'm too late"! You don't realize how ground breaking black sabbath was.
They do not need to.
My favorite Black Sabbath song.. i love that jamming guitar riff in the middle and that high distortion sound that was so 1960s. 70s sound.. just love it
To me there is 2 words to describe Ozzy's voice,
"Mesmerizingly Haunting". There's no other person in music with that voice. It's a "One os a Kind"!!!
I was also going to say haunting it's like you feel possessed by it
*to me there ARE
NIGHTWISH - ROMANTICIDE will rock your face off!!!! you already know how good they are from "Ghost Love Score" this is their METAL side! SOOOOOOO GOOD!

War Pigs will show the real talent of the drummer he absolutely kills it.
I love old Sabbath, my dad was a big fan… can you check out Deep Purple, Highway Star, or Smoke on the Water
Most Black Sabbath's songs and style of music had/have a super heavy sound. Thanks for your reaction!
I was never into metal but my friend had this album in 1970 I was 11 years old and this was my favorite cut from it
I was 12 in 1970 and my best buddy told me about it - told me that I had to hear this song called Iron Man - instant classic - nothing sounded like this. Went to see them in Philly when I was 15 - my first concert. It was insane

A lot of people consider Black Sabbath as the start of heavy metal.
I remember when this song got some negative reaction from religious fanatics. They tried to tell people they were promoting suicide because the lyrics "I tell you to enjoy life " was actually I tell you to end your life...They were so misunderstood and very spiritual, in fact. Love them til the end of time!!!❤

Bill Ward is one of my favorite drummers. Nobody hits harder. So much energy & talent. 🥁
Think John Bonham may have a say in that
Ozzy's voice?
For Alice I'd start with I'm 18 or schools out. Those are the first two that got him noticed.
Saw Sabbath at The Royal Albert Hall, Kensington when I was about 13. Absolutely love them. Saw Deep Purple there too. I was so lucky to be born and grow up in London.
The line is "I tell you to enjoy life. I wish I could , but it's too late."
He does not say to end your life.
Thank you for your work.
You guys have to checkout War Pigs by Black Sabbath . A song that is just as relevant today as it was when it was released in 1970.
Only just stumbled across this video but it's so good to see Americans appreciate the British greats
Love how you guys don't pause too much and let the music do the talking like 6:24, most other reviewers pause the video 200 times and talk over the music....
Great video!
This s a truly genre defining song. It was really the birth of heavy metal.
The line is actually, "I tell you to enjoy life, I wish I could, but it's too late."
The heaviness of their sound is largely due to the fact that Tony Iommi tunes his guitar lower than most other players due.
All of them are very good musicians from the mean guitar rifts, the bass pounding, the drums pulsating and Ozzie's voice just fit so well. Great band
Hey Jay and Amber!!! The line you're trying to "paraphrase" is actually ( I tell you to "enjoy" life I wish "I" could but it's to late).! Plus in the beginning of the song he says " finished with my woman cause she couldn't help me with my life". Great reaction!
