Here is a reminder about portable generator safety: This advice is just to make sure that everyone is aware of all the warnings and it’s just to remind people to be careful using portable generators. Everyone has to see this safety reminder for safety. Every year, hundreds of people die or get injured when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Make sure you are using your generator carefully and keeping others safe as well. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Here’s an advice about generator safety: please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Never use your generator in your porch too. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not allow a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. Just because some manuals missed what should be listed doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. Always follow the generator safety rules when using portable generators. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Do not wear loose clothing when operating the generator. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. th-cam.com/video/I1jT3ANENvI/w-d-xo.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. Hope this helps. Thank you. Stay safe
I like the setup with the breaker switch...simple, easy and efficient. A separate tip...any ac cord in a coil in use produces a magnetic field and therefore resistance in the cord resulting in heat and reducing power flow. Your extra incoming power cord could be taken out of a coil and made into a long loop hung along the rafter
I would like to add a tip for you. It was difficult to see in the video, that would be to ground the generator frame. Using a # 10 ground wire to a ground rod, or to the water supply to the house.....Wonderful job.
@@ironoutdoorsman6646 keep in mind... as long as your using the power cord you have attached... its grounded through the ground wire of that cord. Adding an additional ground is never a bad idea though... great video... thank you for your time...

Nice job, but being in the fire department for 20 years, your supposed to have your generator 15 to 20 feet from your house especially far away from the central AC you may want to stretch your exhaust pipe for safety..
The central AC unit I’m assuming you are referring to is just a condenser unit. It does not route outside air into your house. There is no issue with the generator exhaust being close to it.

There is 3 ways to start my generator.. you can pull start it, push a button to start which is on the generator, or start it with the provided remote button similar to a remote car starter... i leave the switch on the generator to the “on” setting which allows the battery to stay on all the time.. if the battery is on i can easily push the remote start from insode my house and the generator will turn on with out me even having to go out side.. since the battery is always on it constanly draws a small amount from it so thats why the trickle charger is always hooked up to it so it doesnt die.. when i want to shut it off i just press the off button on the remote and it shuts right down all from inside my house
The exhaust is on that side of the machine so i just stubbed it staright out.. i like the look of it in the back too because it is less noticacle looks wise.. and i added another piece of pipe off the elbow to make a longer extension so it helps re direct sound.
Just created my shed based on this design. I'm at the point where I have the attic fan installed (no battery) on the left and one vent on the other. Ran a test and the generator seemed to run great. I have a Ryobi 6500W generator so the exhaust, outlets and gas switch are in weird spots. My exhaust faces the front left so I put my exhaust fan on the left and vent cover on the right for inbound. My shed is outside in the backyard covered by two walls about 2 feet away from the house. My question anyone found it necessary to install the exhaust pipe or whether the fan would ventilate the fumes sufficiently? I've gotten this far so I'll do it if needed but the less I have to do the better. I'm also concerned about noise levels because I'm in a residential area so I want the least amount of cutting as possible. Anyone else make a shed for Ryobi generators or have any input?
The main reason for the exhaust pipe is heat displacement.. it dirrects both fumes and heat out of the encloser so its not nearly as hot and helps the unit run easier and more efficient.. i wouldnt worry about noise for your neighbors at all because 9 times out of 10 your nieghbors wil be running theirs because of a mass power outage..
You need to put a high temp shut off, in case the fan stops working, otherwise gen melt down. There are some videos of how guys did it. Check it out. Otherwise nice job.
My gen keeps turning off after about 30min. Mine is the new predator 9500 inverter. If i keep the doors open its fine. My guess is...its not getting enough air.
Thank God you painted the vent

If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. th-cam.com/video/I1jT3ANENvI/w-d-xo.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators. Thank you stay safe. Hope this advice helps.
Great build ! I am doing a wooden enclosure, I like the exhaust , and the fan set up.
Where did you buy the two front vents and the big side vents. I have been looking for something just like them
@@frankdesantis3843 home depot had them back when i built it. They probably still do.
Nice job but can you explain about the remote control start?
There is 3 ways to start my generator.. you can pull start it, push a button to start which is on the generator, or start it with the provided remote button similar to a remote car starter... i leave the switch on the generator to the “on” setting which allows the battery to stay on all the time.. if the battery is on i can easily push the remote start from insode my house and the generator will turn on with out me even having to go out side.. since the battery is always on it constanly draws a small amount from it so thats why the trickle charger is always hooked up to it so it doesnt die.. when i want to shut it off i just press the off button on the remote and it shuts right down all from inside my house
nice build, but why would you run the exhaust against the brick... should have sent to side and you would have less noise
The exhaust is on that side of the machine so i just stubbed it staright out.. i like the look of it in the back too because it is less noticacle looks wise.. and i added another piece of pipe off the elbow to make a longer extension so it helps re direct sound.
Nice job.
I hope you like this video too th-cam.com/video/Als0LRd2J3g/w-d-xo.html
Clean !!
Good work.
Thank you
Just created my shed based on this design.
Where did you purchase the vents?
Homedepot
saw a guy use silicone cookware (muffin pan) as a gasket on the exhaust pipe (fyi)
might work on you exhaust pipe gap
I welded it in the end.. i have another video explaining upgrades i did
I have been looking for a shed, but, here in Canada, the bloody shed that are suitable for a generator cost about as much as my generator.
Sorry to hear that brotha.. hopefully u keep shopping and find something
thank you!
Good job, but do not store the gas container in the box while it is running.
I dont.. thanks for concern
You need to put a high temp shut off, in case the fan stops working, otherwise gen melt down. There are some videos of how guys did it. Check it out. Otherwise nice job.
I will look into that thank you

Do they not make inverter generators with this wattage? the dude you have is so loud even in the box.
Inverters are way more money and not sure if they make them in this size...from inside the house you barley ever hear it
My gen keeps turning off after about 30min. Mine is the new predator 9500 inverter. If i keep the doors open its fine. My guess is...its not getting enough air.
Do you have vents and a fan system like mine?
You live in Connecticut can you message me the part numbers on those vents part number and where you got them please I'm starting mine
I honestly dont know the part number.. i got them in homedepot and they were very cheap.. the attic fan i got on amazon
@@ironoutdoorsman6646 thank you for your time have a good rest of the day
Good luck with the build id love to see a video when its done.. ask any questions u want
That's loud. No sound deadening material inside.
No shit i made that clear in the video
Violation on cord going through the wall of house. Change to an inlet box
I really dont care.. i did it that way for an easier and quicker process to getting power without having to go outside
Wow...
