  • Roy is forging a cone hardy with the assistance of a striker, Thomas.
In this video, we are forging a bickern. If you are into forging hardy tools, this is a great one to have. The bick anvil is known by several names... bick iron stake, stake anvil, bick horn, bickern anvil, or cone anvil.
In general, a bick iron is a large tapered bar. Bick irons are custom sized to fit in the anvils hardy hole. If you don't have a bick iron stake yet, go ahead and forge one! A bick iron tool is very hand to use. The bick iron uses includes making bends for something that needs a tight radius.
Sometimes you can pick up a bick iron anvil at an auction for cheap, because not everyone knows what it is. A stake anvil can be made from mild steel.
Let me know what you think about making a homemade stake anvil in the comments below. Did you buy your bickern anvil, or do you plan on forging a bick? How often do you use your bick horn? Do you think a bickern anvil is a handy hardy tool? Do you think a small anvil would be more useful? Do you use other types of hardy anvil in your shop? What hardy tools for anvil do you have? Do you like forging hardy tools? Have you tried selling hardy hole tools before? Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Adding this to my list. My first coal forge should be ready in a week, and I've started welding/grinding some simple hardy tools from old air hammer bits.

That is so much easier with a Stryker LMBO.
Just did something similar for a Sledge Hammer eye punch...after watching this on the other phone. 1 1/4 in 4140 is a bit of hammer work. But man what fun it is.
    🙏 God bless y'all now
    Crawford out 🔥⚒️🧙🏼‍♂️

@@ChristCenteredIronworks I've heard that before. Starting to wander if there may be a little truth behind that. LOL enjoying the new style videos

    Great work.
i miss forging so much right now, I hurt my tong elbow and can't hold any weight in that hand. thinking of building a treadle hammer so I can do some work but I don't know which is the easiest, most cost efficient way to go about it.
it is frustrating because I know it's my own fault, I spent so much time getting my hammer swing correct and safe, and I never thought of how I was holding the material improperly.

Nice, clean forging, as always. Gotta get me one of those strikers; are they in the Pieh Tool catalog?

    Hi,
    im new here :)
Is there a reason the cutting edge isnt flat or even concavo shaped instead of convex, so the workpiece wouldnt slip of of it so often?

Thomas you're neighbor? Friend from the guild? Did he swim the ocean to come help? Who is he? What's his story? Is he an apprentice to someone? Or is he a master blacksmith? Or maybe just a helping hand? Does he have a channel? It's all a mystery 😜😁
