I do it pretty much like you do, but no bungees. I tie a long line (rope) to either the jib, or main sail halyard. Tie the halyard to it's winch so it'll be solid. Run the attached rope forward, around the bowsprint, and back to the mast. As you raise the mast, pull on the rope to help the mast go up. When the mast is up, keep the rope tight and walk forward, and connect the forestay. The mast is now up. Take the rope off the halyard. Reverse for lowering the mast, It's one man easy.
