Maddi Shulman Same! I used to live in Michigan but I currently live in Minnesota. I have to remind myself everytime that I CANNOT say U of M when referring to University of Michigan because U of M here means "the U"/University of MN
Please do more U of M videos! I'm pretty sure I'm going to go here and I'd love to see you make more videos about/on campus! I can't seem to ever find any videos! Great video :-)
Love that you made this video! I'm now a senior at the U and a video like this would have been soo helpful when I was a freshman. Glad to see a fellow goph on TH-cam :)
It makes me so happy to find a U of M student on youtube! I'm going to be applying in the fall, and this is my dream college, so I'm super nervous. It would be so awesome if you made a video talking about your application process and everything. :) thanks so much!
I couldn't really find anything UMN related on TH-cam last year so that's exactly why I made this video! And I'll definitely consider making a video like that! Good luck with college applications and thanks for watching! ☺️
I'm from Nebraska and the U of M is my dream school! I am a senior this year and I apply next month, I'm super scared but also I pray that I get in. Love the campus!!!
If anyone has any specific suggestions for U of M related videos that they would like me to make in the future, please comment those here and/or thumbs up the ones you like!!😊
Thank you so much for posting this video, it has been incredibly helpful!! I'll be a freshman this upcoming fall, and I was placed in Middlebrook I was wondering if all the rooms had two vanity type mirrors in them or if it was just a certain floor that was organized that way?
I'm going to be a freshman at the U in the fall and I was put in middlebrook! The dorm seems really nice but I'm kinda worried about making the walk from West Bank to east bank everyday😬
So exciting!! And honestly the walk really isn't as bad as it seems! When the weather is nice, it's such a great way to get some exercise. When I was feeling lazy or it was super cold/windy/snowy, I defintely relied on the buses and light rail! If you start off the semester leaving Middlebrook super early to make sure you get to class on time, eventually you'll figure out exactly how long it takes you to get where you need to go.
hey! thank you for making this video!! was your dorm where the majority of the acting majors live? i heard that that’s closer to the BFA department. and also, how long before the first day of class were you allowed to move in? thanks :)
Good question! All of the rooms are fairly similar in layout, the only thing that really changes is the location of the closets! For example, some rooms don't have the cork walls like mine did because the closets are parallel to the door. And you obviously get to choose the layout of your beds, desks, etc.! Happy to help, thanks so much for watching!!☺️
Great question! I believe that in all of the U of M residence halls you can change the height of the beds! Usually they can be set at one of two different heights; unlofted (like my roommate's bed) or lofted (like my bed)! Some beds even have a middle height "setting" where they're pretty high off the ground but don't require a ladder. Hope that helps, and so excited for you to be a gopher!!
I saw on the U of M's website that Middlebrook Hall typically shares one bathroom for 2 rooms. How is the bathroom connected to your room or how far is it, and how difficult is it sharing the space between two rooms? I'd love to see pictures or a video of the bathroom space if you have any!
Yes! The bathrooms are not physically connected to your room, they're just right across the hall! Usually it's not difficult to share the bathrooms with three other people unless a lot of you like to shower at the same time. They get cleaned every day so that definitely helps too! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but you can kind of see my bathroom in this video at around 1:27. You can also check out www.housing.umn.edu/floor-plans/middlebrook to see floor plans of the building to find out where all the bathrooms are located! Hope that helps!
Thank you so much!! And that's awesome! You get a few shirts for free during orientation and welcome week but if you want more than that you have to buy them yourself!
Ok so how do you pick which bed you get? I've always wondered that haha. Is it like a first come first serve or did you have different move in days orr?? Thanks!
I feel like this is definitley one of those questions that everyone has but never really asks😂 Whether you select a specific roommate or have one randomly chosen for you, you will have their contact information so most people discuss that beforehand! Otherwise, whoever happens to get there first chooses because usually both roommates move in on the same day around the same time!
I just found out I'll be living in Middlebrook this fall and your video was super helpful! I'm curious though, are your showers communal or are they a part of the bathroom you share w one other room? and are you responsible for cleaning the bathroom or is it taken care of by the university? thanks!
Thank you so much! And great question!! In Middlebrook the showers are not communal either! Typically there are eight rooms and four bathrooms in every wing of your floor so most people just share a bathroom with the room next to them. Each individual bathroom has its own shower, toilet, and sink. The bathrooms are cleaned for you every day too, which is super nice!
I just found out today that I got into U of M!! I'm also from Wisconsin and one worry I have is transitioning to living in a big city. Did you find that difficult at all?
Congratulations! Personally I didn't find that part of the transition to be terrible since our campus is quite condensed and feels like its own little town! Being at a school with tens of thousands of students definitely takes some getting used to but it also gives you the opportunity to do new things and meet so many new people! Hope that helps!
Yes! Centennial Hall is almost exclusively single rooms, however a few of the other buildings have a handful of singles! For specifics, you can check out the "Halls & Apartments" section on housing.umn.edu
I apologize for the very delayed response, but no, I was not in a LLC. I would definitely recommend joining one if there is one that you're really interested in/passionate about though! They seem super fun to be a part of and LLC preference is actually the first factor taken into consideration on your housing application!
Hey so uh, could you just explain the whole roomate thing, i mean do we have to find one ourselves or are we alloted one etc. Im an international student and i have no idea how the dorm system works 😁
You are randomly assigned a roommate if you don't request someone specific (and they also request you). They try to match you up with someone that has similar habits to you if you can't find your own roommate. I did not know my roommate previously but we "met" on the Class of 2020 Facebook page, got to know each other, decided that we wanted to live together, then requested one another on our housing applications!
Bad things happen at every school, but being in a major metropolitan area, the U of M naturally just has it a bit worse unfortunately. Personally, I have never really felt unsafe on campus. The university provides a lot of great resources to mitigate safety-related issues as much as possible, which I would encourage you to read about at safe-u.umn.edu/public-safety.html!
Hello! If anyone in 2019 wants me to make any sort of U of M related videos since I am going into my last semester please let me know! :)
It's so funny hearing "U of M," since I'm from Ann Arbor, Michigan and we have our own U of M. I love your room though!
Maddi Shulman Same! I used to live in Michigan but I currently live in Minnesota. I have to remind myself everytime that I CANNOT say U of M when referring to University of Michigan because U of M here means "the U"/University of MN

Thank you!! I will definitely try to make more U of M videos at some point! So glad to hear that you might be a future gopher as well! ☺️

It makes me so happy to find a U of M student on youtube! I'm going to be applying in the fall, and this is my dream college, so I'm super nervous. It would be so awesome if you made a video talking about your application process and everything. :) thanks so much!

I'll use these tips when I go back next semester :)
Are most of the standard double rooms in Middlebrook the same set up? I just got placed in Middlebrook and loved seeing this video! Thanks!

A lot of the most important things to know can be found on this website: admissions.tc.umn.edu/freshman/index.html!
I missed middlebrook! People there are amazing
Is there a one room dorm in the University of Minnesota?
Yes! Centennial Hall is almost exclusively single rooms, however a few of the other buildings have a handful of singles! For specifics, you can check out the "Halls & Apartments" section on housing.umn.edu
On my way to orientation right now! Can't wait to get my rooming assignment
Have so much fun!! Such an exciting time!
Is there wi-fi?? In the college or dorms??
Yes of course.
Im not in college yet so i wouldnt know, but where are the showers?
In most residence halls there are bathrooms with showers on every floor of the building!
Soo you shower with other people??
are you a part of an LLC? Would you recommend joining one?
I apologize for the very delayed response, but no, I was not in a LLC. I would definitely recommend joining one if there is one that you're really interested in/passionate about though! They seem super fun to be a part of and LLC preference is actually the first factor taken into consideration on your housing application!
I need you help in university of minnesota to enroll
I just need you help for online courses for international students
You go to my dream collage
Is your room a standard double?
Yes, in Middlebrook Hall my room was considered a standard double!
Hey so uh, could you just explain the whole roomate thing, i mean do we have to find one ourselves or are we alloted one etc. Im an international student and i have no idea how the dorm system works 😁

I live in minasota by lake nocomis
omg you have such a minnesotan accent hahaha and Im from mn
Funny that you say that because I'm not from Minnesota haha
The high crime rates at the u of m are unsettling and really the only thing holding me back from going there
