Let me set the scene Karen, it’s raining outside, it’s dark and cold, nothing to watch on the bbc or itv, so on to You Tube I went, first recommendation, your new upload, settle on sofa, press play and once again I very much enjoy your travels and thoughts on your surroundings. Your enthusiasm for everything you seem to do is a joy to watch and very much more interesting than what some of the so called proper tv channels put on. Thank you.

The UK and Netherlands both have sections of Motorway where the hard shouder is Dynamic - and changes into running lanes at peak times. (More recently ou may have noticed that the UK is removing hard shoulders completely with mixed results).
I loved camping in France for the reason the sites I have used all had a bakery nearby or on site, and nothing nicer than getting up, short walk to get fresh baguettes and croissants, and then settling down with a fresh coffee in the sun.... great start to the day
I did a motorbike tour of Netherlands (Holland) in 2016 and was really impressed with the way that cycling is incorporated into whole layout of the towns and roads. Much more joined up into incorporating cycling and it's benefits.

Good to know about the roads!
Yes, the best way to start the day with fresh bread!
And they really do have an impressive cycle network.

Nice picturesque scenery again Karen. That awning is a two person job I think (I wonder if you used it ) and a motor mover I couldn't manage without. The weathers cooled down in UK 11.11.19 .. we have floods not far from Sheffield where you visited . saw the fake trav blog, funny ha.

    • @TravellingK

I never ended up using the awning up 🤦‍♀️ Kept meaning to the whole trip! A motor mover would have been so handy at that campground.

I'm in the UK but when I was living in Mexico I found the hardest time of day to drive was first thing in the morning. The problem was, it would be easy to drive on the wrong side of the road, specially where the roads are empty. So I made a small notice which I fixed to the steering wheel whenever I got out. It just said " Drive on the right" and I attached it with a bulldog clip. I also put an old towel on the drivers seat as a double reminder. It worked though, and I was happy about that !

You are doing amazingly well as a solo explorer. I salute you. Victor Morris' advice is sound - don't get cocky after a few days of crash-free motoring! Regarding road numbers: A stands for Autoroute/Autosnelweg* (i.e. Motorway). N stands for National (NZ National Highway) (UK A Road). Major roads with E numbers span virtually the whole of the EU. It’s not unusual to see dual E and A route numbering on signage. *Belgium is split between French (Walloon) and Dutch/Flemish.

Overtaking cars (need to lean long over to the passenger seat to see if meeting traffic coming on you) and turning out from petrol stations is the most difficult when driving on the side you are not used to drive on. Its far easier to drive a car with the steering wheel same as in the country where they drive on the left or the right, ie. the steering wheel on the left in europe.

@@TravellingK By the way, regarding narrow roads, in countryside Norway you are lucky if there is a dual carriageway with yellow stripes in the middle. Usually its no middle stripes, some times the road is so narrow that meeting pockets are placed out. You need to note the nearest meeting pocket you pass as you some times need to reverse back to it to wait when you meet that big lorry. The excuse by the Norwegian road government why they are not building out the infrastructure of the national roads is that they need to preserve the cultural landscape for farming and to keep the unique feel to it. A nice statement, but I guess it does not work that well in our modern times. Norway also do build a record amount of tunnels through the mountains to eliminate those horrid serpentine roads. The tourists call the tunnels "to see the beauty of norway from inside". But you should come here. There is no other place like it.

We in the UK drive on the right side of the road, the others drive on the right hand side of the road, which is the wrong side. Lol

So if thats the right side of the road then who drives on the wrong side of the road lol sorry couldnt resist! My daughter spent 4 yrs using a bicycle in Germany, she had never used on in NZ lol If you try pinning your hair up off the back of your neck it makes you much cooler & soak your wrists in a bowl of cold water.. it cools down your whole body.

I really wished to have seen your face when you took the first bite... Oh Karen what did you expect.....? Just read the ingredients sticker and use Google translate.... you can not go really wrong.. But when you expect to taste a plum and it's a Madame Jeannette you're in for a suprise....

Hi Denis, hehe, I liked the Belgium food😜Wish I'd had more time to explore France too though. Funny that your workmates are going to La Panne! We do have a couple of places like that, but I don't think to that scale.
