LEMON CURD AND CLOTTED CREAM ICE CREAMS?!? Shut the front door. That sounds HEAVENLY. Two spreads that are criminally underrated in North America. People here just don’t understand! I’m going to have to try to make those ice creams myself 😋
Use the no machine ice cream recipe from bigger bolder baking for your base, and put the lemon curd in with some extra lemon juice and grated zest. It’s perfect lemon curd ice cream.
"british people and their definition of... 'A Walk'" martina!! i usually don't comment, but as a long-time fan from the UK this made me laugh so hard. my trauma as a child growing up in the UK was being deceptively mis-sold massive hikes as 'walks' haha. so pleased you had a great time here, come back soon :) xx
Welcome to the uk 🇬🇧 you should discover up north (York , Liverpool , Manchester , new castle , Durhams, Lincolnshire , Lancaster, Glasgow , Scarborough, Edinburgh, Aberdeen)
Plus the coast of Wales round past Liverpool and along the coast to Morecambe there are lots of sandy beaches. Go across to the other side of the country and along the coast there are more sandy beaches. Sorry if I have missed out on other sandy beaches, there are lots. It's just a pity we do not have the warm clear waters that you find elsewhere in the world.
@@martinconnelly1473I remember seeing beautiful sandy beaches with blue crystal clear water, looking like the south seas, from the steam train running between Fort William and Mallaig in Scotland. Ah I adore this video! As an American that moved to the UK a couple years ago, this definitely captures some of my experience acclimating to the culture 😂
I've been living in the UK for three years and this video has shown me I need to get out and explore more 🥹 Next time, come to the North and see Yorkshire, Liverpool, Manchester,... :) great towns and the people are so friendly!
17:04 I've lived in the UK all my live (Bristol - Thanks for visiting) and weirdly I've never noticed the bunting everywhere until you pointed it out. I don't think we even talk about bunting. It's just everywhere somehow without anyone discussing it.
This is a lovely format! I really enjoyed it! You did a good job of showing off stereotypical things that people would be drawn to England for as well as charming local spots. All while giving nostalgic anecdotes.
i am SO unnecessarily hyped that you met the bristol goats, they are my best friends and seeing people's reactions when they had no idea about the goats (especially non-brits, do we just have a built-in immunity to goat surprise??) is infinitely entertaining. now then... i hope you get up to scotland at some point!! the highlands aren't the most friendly for those of us with Special Joints but finding a suitable spot to explore up there is 100% worth it, sorry england but i will forever miss the true wildness of wilderness up there
YAAAS! I think your editing + style is so good that it makes any country look so appealing and beautiful!!! I have never been so persuaded to go to England :O I think this is like a CLASSIC example that shows how a creator can be more than just isolated to a single niche (e.g., Japan) because of their style, vision, philosophy, and creativity. You beautify any thing you lay your eyes on and are able to tangibly showcase that in such an awe inspiring way. God I wish there was more of this type of thing on youtube but I think it spawns from a long time of hard work.
This made me see my homeland from a very refreshing point of view, thank you, your comments made me laugh. They're completely on point! I actually never use the term hike unless I'm going on an all-day walk haha. Really glad you explored some of the lovelier parts of the UK, many people just go to London to come visit and they're missing out (I say as a Londoner haha). I'm sure Dan helped with the itinerary so his input and guest appearance is appreciated too!
Wowowow, this is really a look at the UK, not just the typical cities! London definitely has its charms and attractions but I think you find the heart of the UK in all the different towns, villages and cities combined. So so glad you went further afield - I was surprised as some of the places you went to, wasn't expecting it! Really glad you got to see the real charms of this funky lil island of ours. And also got to learn some of the culture - things like walks and rain, I didn't consider that someone from elsewhere would view them differently. As someone who lives here (I'm in the North West), I find myself often thinking that this is a pretty dreary place, but the way you spoke about and showed the different places you went to kind of opened up my eyes again. There is a lot of beauty here - I guess I'm just used to seeing it so it seems mundane. Anyway, ramble over. Glad you enjoyed your time here! And rest assured, if you do come back, there's still a plethora of weird and wonderful places to discover.
This felt like watching one of the old videos and it brought me right back to my teen years, so nostalgic! I really see you as a presenter for travel shows! 🎉
So glad you had a good trip and enjoyed the UK, so many people bash and put down the UK, for our food and other things, but when we have nice weather, there is a lot of nice things to offer, and friendly people outside of big cities, most tourists only go to london, it isnt the only place in the UK ahaha
It's so cool that you finally visited England! I've watched your content for years as a Brit who wants to live in Asia at some point in the future, so it's odd to see you in my own country for once! Glad that you enjoyed your trip, I would love you to visit again and head further into the Midlands and the North!
I have nothing but respect for those “Seagulls” - actually Herring Gulls. Until recently I lived by the sea in Cornwall. Those amazing birds, with up to four foot wingspan, can easily fly over my shoulder and take an ice cream right out of my mouth without me seeing, feeling or hearing anything but the flutter and gentle stroke of those beautiful wings on my cheek. I once rescued a young - but still pretty big one from a restaurant terrace, where it had been ‘shooed’ under a corner table by a terrified waitress. I knelt down beside it , held out my arms out and said “ Come on buddy”. The gull didn’t hesitate, it came straight over and let me pick it up and carry it outside. The restaurant diners applauded and the gull’s family waiting outside did the same in their cackling way.
Nice to know they're Herring Gulls, thanks for the info! In Japan, we have these amazing hawks (Black Kites if you want to look them up) that live by the seaside, and can swoop down and remove the onigiri or sandwich from your hand with pinpoint accuracy. I used to head to Kamakura (seaside town) and people watch this occurring! Despite all the warning signs, the hawks always came out the winner. And such a lovely story about rescuing the lost the gull. You sound like a very empathic individual!
@@KingKogi Despite being 30 miles from the coast, we get loads in Bath and they're a total pain in the arse/ass. Everyone hates them, not least as they can often be seen taking out a pigeon right in front of you. You need to put Bath on your bucket list, btw.
Thanks so much for this funny, warm video. I feel as if my lovely country has taken a real beating lately but your review highlighted some of the many positive things about it. You’ve really cheered me up. I feel like I’ve been zapped by a ray of sunshine! 😊
I can’t believe you were in my neck of the woods (Dorset)! I hope you enjoyed your trip!! Lyme Regis is one of my favourite places (except for the hills).
Regarding cows in fields. From Spring into Summer, some pasture fields will have herds of young bulls. They can be more than inquisitive. I've seen a herd of 50 of them chase a family out of a field running at 30mph.
This is so wonderful!! I’m English and live in Devon 😊 plus I lived in Leicester for five years and I visit Bristol, Exeter and Lyme Regis regularly so this video was a stunned recognising of places one after the other!!
There's a place in Cumbria called Cockermouth, and people in South Yorkshire often use 'cock' or 'cocker' as a term of endearment 😂 it's nice to see someone visiting the UK and going to places other then London!
Ahh, the christmas steps is less than a minute walk from my office building. Good on you for actually finding interesting locations to visit in the uk! Cake shop and the pub at the bottom of the steps are both 💎

She's right, the Seagull is Britain's only remaining apex predator. Today one stood next to my car door, watching me in a menacing fashion, as I ate a sandwich.
Careful, from what I’ve seen, they’ll soon be forming organized gangs and steeling our phones, in which they’ll use it to call the local fish and chips shop.
As someone who has been with 2 Englishmen for nearly 10 years combined and countless of friends from the UK, I can really relate to a lot of these things. I honestly do really love England. It's just my kind of country and it feels like my home.
So glad you enjoyed The UK!! You went to some of the loveliest places, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Axeminster, etc... and I love how you view our way of life. And yes, seagulls are the true predator of The UK. One once stole a whole pasty (which had been incredibly pricey) out of my dads hand and didn't get very far before it then dropped the pasty right into the sea. To say my dad was miffed was an understatement! P.S. Lacock is pronounced "Laycock"! 🤣
I'm so glad you enjoyed visiting the UK - and got outside London! Yes, we really don't consider that sort of light misting drizzle as "proper" rain - it's only a bit blustery after all! Well, I live in Canada and can confirm that you guys are way more sensitive to rain than countries that, well, are wetter. People here talk about light rain like it's a lot of rain. I imagine that what other countries think that is a lot of snow is going to be nothing to Canadians, though.
If you ever come to the north west of England I have so many recommendations. Especially Manchester and Liverpool. Me and my partner have been watching you since you lived in Korea. Now I’m in Korea and you are in the uk!! XD You inspired me to go on so many adventures and it makes me and my partner so happy you liked our home country. Though it is accurate how British folk will speak in riddles or underplay things massively. It’s usual because we don’t want to be a bother 😂
Love your reactions, you brought up lots of details not usually touched on, and with a bit of humour. Also fantastic to see one of our North American cousins mention the joys of local cricket accompanied by local cider! I also definitely prefer the preponderance of Jane Austen references rather than Harry Potter!
The attitude towards rain sounds like how living in Seattle was. A large part of the year there was just moisture in the air and I rarely saw umbrellas or rain jackets.

Clotted cream - food of the gods! 😋💗💗
Use the no machine ice cream recipe from bigger bolder baking for your base, and put the lemon curd in with some extra lemon juice and grated zest. It’s perfect lemon curd ice cream.
You merely adapted to the rain. We were born in it, raised by it. We didn’t know what sunlight was until we were already young adults.
Most excellent use of Bane 😂
"british people and their definition of... 'A Walk'" martina!! i usually don't comment, but as a long-time fan from the UK this made me laugh so hard. my trauma as a child growing up in the UK was being deceptively mis-sold massive hikes as 'walks' haha. so pleased you had a great time here, come back soon :) xx
Welcome to the uk 🇬🇧 you should discover up north (York , Liverpool , Manchester , new castle , Durhams, Lincolnshire , Lancaster, Glasgow , Scarborough, Edinburgh, Aberdeen)
Next time indeed! I’d like to see more of England, and Wales, Scotland, and Ireland are bucketlist locations 🥰
I agree with @baeomran You need to visit the shambles in York for those Diagon Alley vibes.
@@teamfurball6781 it is what the alley is based off after all
Plus the coast of Wales round past Liverpool and along the coast to Morecambe there are lots of sandy beaches.
Gorgeous but I doubt the water was warm, even though it was summer. Such beauty all over our islands. 💗💗💗
All while giving nostalgic anecdotes.
i am SO unnecessarily hyped that you met the bristol goats, they are my best friends and seeing people's reactions when they had no idea about the goats (especially non-brits, do we just have a built-in immunity to goat surprise??) is infinitely entertaining. now then... i hope you get up to scotland at some point!! the highlands aren't the most friendly for those of us with Special Joints but finding a suitable spot to explore up there is 100% worth it, sorry england but i will forever miss the true wildness of wilderness up there
🐐 I was like GOAT GOOOOATS OMG GOAT!!!
As a Canadian who couldn't get enough of the UK, this video made my soul so happy.
It's so weird seeing Martina in my country! I'm glad you had a good time! I forget how many funny place names we have lol
This felt like watching one of the old videos and it brought me right back to my teen years, so nostalgic! I really see you as a presenter for travel shows! 🎉
Okay, all I want now is a Martina travel series!
Bristol repped by wild goats and diagon alley, lol! Was lovely to have you over. Look forward to next time x
I loved the goats and of course, the amazing people in Bristol too ❤
Thanks so much for this funny, warm video. I feel as if my lovely country has taken a real beating lately but your review highlighted some of the many positive things about it. You’ve really cheered me up. I feel like I’ve been zapped by a ray of sunshine! 😊
viewer of 12 (omg) years from the UK and idk why this has made me so so happy to see! love you martina~
I can’t believe you were in my neck of the woods (Dorset)! I hope you enjoyed your trip!! Lyme Regis is one of my favourite places (except for the hills).
It was very hilly indeed, but these hiking sneakers I bought are so amazingly grippy.
Amazing video Martina ! I love your "spin" on things and the way you tell your stories! So fun!
Glad you enjoyed it! I always have a great time trying to make it fun, and to see things from a different perspective.
I'm so so glad this made it into my recommendation feed! This was the perfect mix of nostalgia and Martina I needed while nursing my cold.
Videos like these remind me that the UK is a beautiful place and not to get too down about my homeland. I hope you visit Scotland sometime!
In Newfoundland, it's not rare to hear 'me ol' cock' as a term of endearment
Cockermouth is lovely
It's magic seeing the UK through your eyes, Martina! So glad you enjoyed. I'm now both nostalgic and ravenous!
NEXT TIME you and Dan should definitely visit York and film in the shambles.
Ahh, the christmas steps is less than a minute walk from my office building. Good on you for actually finding interesting locations to visit in the uk! Cake shop and the pub at the bottom of the steps are both 💎
I went to the game cafe at the bottom of the Christmas steps and had a delightful alcoholic milkshake during my game of Dominion. Also, there is a great Asian grocery store is around the area too, I was able to pick up some snacks I was missing 🤤
As someone who has visited Japan and Venice, hearing a town described as "it's like Japan and Venice had a baby" makes me want to travel there and see for myself.
Yaay another Martina video :D Seems like you had a LOT of fun in the UK. Im again so happy for these videos, thank you for making them! They always make me smile :D
as a Leicester lad I'm VERY impressed with how you pronounced Leicestershire! everyone struggles with that name, but not Martina.
You were in my homeland!? From the top I knew you were about to laugh us out of the room... Personally, I believe I was the correct amount of offended by this satirical commentary. I appreciate you pulling the colelctive chain of all us Brits watching 👏
I know the Brits can take a joke and some fun banter, so I didn’t want to make a typical video. Glad you liked it! I had such a good time can’t wait to come back and explore again 😊
@@KingKogi Ah, Senpai noticed me!
If you're ever in London, you must try Brick Lane Beigel Bake in Shoreditch and Duck and Waffle in Liverpool Street - I recommend as a local!
Love that you visited the UK, next time head north!
Seeing you venture in the uk has literally made me so happy literally been a fan since you where in korea and honestly you are thriving these days always my fave!! ❤
One stole my donut straight out of my hand 😢 It was so sad
It's nice to see americans/Canadians go to other places in the UK instead of going to just London all the time how refreshing
I'm so glad you enjoyed visiting the UK - and got outside London! Yes, we really don't consider that sort of light misting drizzle as "proper" rain - it's only a bit blustery after all! One of the UK's comic authors joked that there are over 200 types of rain, including, but not limited to:
Type 11: breezy droplets
Type 17: dirty blatter
Type 33: light pricking drizzle which made the roads slippery
Type 39: heavy spotting
Type 47: vertical light drizzle
Type 51: sharply slanting light to moderate drizzle freshening
Types 87 and 88: two finely distinguished varieties of vertical torrential downpour
Type 100: post-downpour squalling, cold
Type 123: mild cold gusting
Type 124: intermediate cold gusting
Type 126: regular cab-drumming
Type 127: syncopated cab-drumming
Types 192 to 213: seastorm types
Type 232: Bucketing down
I love this! Thanks for sharing the rain descriptions, I’ll pass this onto Dan 🌧️
That was an excellent video. A unique representation of our magical island. Brilliant presentation, humorous, informative ; so different ! Stay here and spread your magic. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
Glad you enjoyed it! Not everyone’s cuppa, but always hoping to make people laugh
Best post I’ve seen about UK highly amusing thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed that
So pleased you enjoyed it! I truly had a great first visit and can't wait to explore again. The beer and cider was fantastic as well, just too busy drinking it to capture it all on camera.
I love to see you thriving and traveling. And always thrilled to see Dan. I hope yall have tons of adventures and fun moments in your future.
This video was entirely surreal for me!
I've really enjoyed your Japan and Korea content for a long time. Then you decide to visit the UK...amazing... only you went to Exeter 20 mins from my house, and Sidmouth 20 mins from where I used to live. I wasn't expecting that.
The world is small.
I'm glad you had a great time in Blighty! 🐷
BRISTOL! I've been watching your videos for years and use them to help with my japan 2023 trip. I hope you enjoyed our city!
OMG THIS IS NOT A DRILL: NEW MARTINA POST!!!
the scream that came out of me! so excited!!!
WONDERFUL episode!
An avid, shameless fan of England/Wales/Cornwall/Scotland travelogues, I have never seen such a brilliant piece!
Well paced, humorous, delightful narration, great editing, exceptional photography, content is super.
Can't sing enough praises for the content!
*despite all the judgement over the Great Struggle of the Big Beach Chair
from the three stodgy doggy jury
TY Martina!
Thank you for the kind feedback! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and so did those three dogs watching me struggle 😂
Well, I live in Canada and can confirm that you guys are way more sensitive to rain than countries that, well, are wetter. People here talk about light rain like it's a lot of rain. I imagine that what other countries think that is a lot of snow is going to be nothing to Canadians, though.
Aw yeeeeeh we’re blessed with a new travel video
Seeing Eric from the best internet comments was a pleasent surprise
The attitude towards rain sounds like how living in Seattle was. A large part of the year there was just moisture in the air and I rarely saw umbrellas or rain jackets.
As someone who grew up in Exeter, it was amazing to see it through your eyes and also enjoying some of my local spots too ❤
That was fun. Great vibes and fun all over.thank you. Had some health issues and Videos Like this cheer me Up to No end
Wetwang is a village near me in Yorkshire. Thought that might make you giggle. 😂 ❤
WETWANG I want to wear the shirt
I live in Biggleswade!!! Very rare for our little town in a quiet corner of Bedfordshire to get a shout-out. 'Something you'd name your adorable pet pig' is the cutest thing I've ever heard. So thank you ♥
OMG NO WAY!!! What a charming name for a town~ 💗
Martina, this is a masterpiece! Thank you. It's gorgeous 😊
Love your video of your travels to the UK Martina! You captured so much of what makes the UK charming. One of the best UK travel videos I've seen.
As someone who lives in the UK. Can confirm the South West is beautiful! Lyme Regis/ Sidmouth and Exeter are a great part of the country!
I also collect milk bottles from vending machines across the UK! I think they look so cute as decoration and gets me out and about sometimes!
Oh my gosh there is more than one milk vending machine!!?? Such a cool adventure idea, I love it! Please let me know where another one is so I can head there next time
i’ve started bringing back some sort of treat from my travels, and it’s such a good way to extend your vacation vibes!
Ah “not too sweet” aka 10/10 . :)
It’s lovely to see your observations of England. I haven’t seen much beyond London but really hope to go back someday and explore more. It looks so beautiful.
Thank you for not shitting on our food lmao, it gets such a bad rap but it's honestly not that bad, and I actually think we do desserts like nowhere else. I'll have a knickerbocker glory or banoffee pie or sticky toffee pudding after dinner any day lmao. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself! And for some reason I couldn't believe this was your first time in the UK?? I love that you found such magic and charm in the ye olde towns, it's a lot harder to see when you're used to 500 year old buildings sitting about everywhere. I hope Dan has a newfound appreciation for it too! (P.S - Please come to Ireland some time for Halloween if you want top-tier super traditional celebrations, you won't be disappointed, I promise!)
Lol exactly, we walk past ancient buildings every day and don't bat an eyelid 😂
You tube recommended you and I’m so glad, it’s such an uplifting positive vlog. X
Excellent, great (and amusing, quirky) intro to this our Island which stikey outey like in a northerly direction into the chilly wet Atlantic watery bit. Like the ice-cream too, never tasted that local one (Weavers), my loss, must get out more. Keep 'em coming, this video, vlog, blog squog, moving picture thingy, thank you Martina, love it.
Glad you enjoyed it! That thick Devon cream based ice cream was a true treat.
Great positive vibe. There are thousands of things to see and do in the UK! ❤️
I really enjoyed myself and did much more than I actually filmed in each city and town. Can’t wait to visit again and go up north, and travel to Scotland, Ireland, and Wales too
Ahhhh, it's so exciting to see you in Exeter, which is where I live. The Firehouse is one of my haunts and it was great seeing you review the pizza and the vibes of the place. Also, at the end of the video you walked past my old flat, which is so surreal for me. Overall great video!
I really enjoyed Exeter, it was easy to explore and find something interesting. Quite hilly at times haha but a good way to work off my beer and cider. There was a super old pub I came across when walking back from the Quay and I was able to enjoy a pint under what seemed like the stairs 🍻 great vibe altogether, I’ll definitely be back again
Spot on with the place names! I live near a place called Cockington, which you get to by going down Nut Bush Lane! 😂
Thank you for spending so much time in Devon!
NUT BUSH LANE 🌰 noooooOooOoOooooOoooooo I can’t take it 😂
Soooooo many nice childhood memories visiting Cockington Forge!
Your videos are just such a joy to watch
I’m so happy to hear that 💗
Great video! If you like old crooked buildings you should deffo visit York and go to the shambles next time 🎉
I think UK people deal with rain the same way we do in BC. I was like you when I moved from Paris to Vancouver 13 years ago, and know I’m like “Meh…not raining enough to bother with an umbrella”. It drives my mom crazy when I go back visiting 😂
Glad you had a good time
LOVE!!!
This was such a nice video! Hilarious voice over, beautiful scenes, and so much fun.
