Tbh, it's not even ALL of the team either. Like Felix? Nice sounding guy. But Stan, Sid, and (to an extent) Ethan are definitely needing some major retuning. Ethan in particular has had some good moments, so if somehow there can be someone who would have the role of Marcos(?) from Minotaur who would - instead of hyping Ethan up even more - calm him down, then he could still be someone that may be "tolerated" at least.

According to the BattleBots Update guy, he was there when the Copperhead Vs. Riptide post-fight interview was filmed and one part that wasn't shown on TV was Ethan Kurtz stating "we would have won if I were driving". Basically, he threw Felix under the bus. If this is true, screw you Ethan!
@@UnpatternedGarbage the team did task felix with going weapon to weapon as much as possible though because they were sure to win the exchanges. aaand thats what eventually broke their weapon and gave them the loss i.e. that is exactly what ethan wanted to do as well.
For the Madcatter Wedgelet hit, also got to bear in mind that Battlebots that year had banned "hitting tiny objects" like that on purpose. So it was also against the show explicitly tellnig every team "do not do this".
@@Theprophet3928 Yeah it was banned because the velocity imparted on small objects stands too great a chance of damaging the outer protective layer for unnecessary reasons. It can happen accidentally of course, thats accepted. But after the effects of it were recognised the competitors were asked to stop. Willfully doing it from now on is kind of a dickmove. Especially as Madcatter's wedglet was still usable...until hit again, costing them money unnecessarily.
I should mention that Ethan also had a rant about he and Glitch co-winning Rookie of the Year award, saying that he alone should've won it for various reasons (mostly being "Rookie of the Year" not "RookieS of the Year" and that "Glitch didn't even make the top 8"). It was definitely a "shut up" moment, but it was still pretty bad. I wouldn't be surprised if the award was stopped due to the complaint, though. :/
That isn’t even really a false start versus Duck tbh. They stayed within the starting square *and* fully stopped before the green, so it’s not like they had any sort of momentum advantage before the match. Personally would’ve put that in Shut Up Karen
I have to love those that some try to defend Riptide wrecking Shred by referencing Shred's match against Sharko from Bounty Hunters, where it's the end of the event and builders are more open to late hits because they have no more fights afterwards. A true grasping at straws if I ever saw it. I'll admit I thought Sid was better post-Copperhead fight, but it seems like it was just cleverly hidden poor sportsmanship. If Team Riptide wants to be treated better, they have to act better on TV. You can't just use the whole "Well boys will be boys" because that just excuses this exact behavior. You have to step up to the plate and say "No, you cannot do that here. This is not appropriate."
Also, I'm pretty sure that an easily detachable piece of plastic and aluminum getting torn off is less expensive/important than pieces of a single iron shell, wiring, or a baseplate
Yeah you can tell they're new fans that just can't grasp all of the details and only see that Shred/Sharko fight at face value. And any time I argue against those people they quickly become the worst trolls in the world xD

Also kinda odd that Zack from Riptide was on Team Sharko at the time, so I'd almost see this as a secret grudge from him against Shred (idk if he'd have this as a grudge, I just add that as a little headcanon). Though I still don't think Shred deserved all that either. :/
Battle bots has made a big push for some reason. To shift from honorable boxing matches to full out street brawler in the last few years. I find one side of the match up dynamic for Riptide is the number of "Why the hell are you still here" Bots they got paired to. To the point if Black Smith had of been there I bet they would have been paired up to them. I think Battle Bot used Riptide to as their rat dog to clean out the garbage. Now to be clear I'm in total agreement with your list. I just think they brought a wolf in to clean out the poodles in the dog fight. PS. If you want some one comfortable on a web cam to guest on the show some time hit me up.
When Riptide first started I found them to be a team that at best was just a little annoying at times and a little rude at worst. But after the Captain fight is when I really started to not like them.
I have to say Nick, thanks for shedding light on the Stan scam stuff. I seen someone post about it on the Facebook group but never dug deeper into it. As a viewer, I was unaware of that and that’s a big turn off for me from watching Riptide, out of everything the team did. I work with special education as an RBT and there are a lot of kids and families in need of help. The demand for help is overwhelming but Stan doing a scam like that is very disgusting and a reason why people don’t seek the proper service. I hope BB doesn’t allow his presence on screen. Although Ethan is faulted for many of the “controversies” presented here, I agree with whoever said that it is ultimately Stan’s fault for not providing Ethan the proper support to help his behaviors and understand social cues. That’s not to say Ethan is excused for his behaviors, if he doesn’t understand what he did was wrong, he really needs someone to teach him why it’s “wrong”.
Admittedly we didn't dive deep enough into it :o Agreed about Ethan. I genuinely believe he COULD be a decent person if not for all the toxicity his dad has funneled into him. I doubt we'd ever see them separate, but you never know xD

That’s crazy I guess if you could answer/say, with everything you seen from tv and live in the audience, how much more stuff do you know about the controversies compared to an tv only viewer? If you could describe the split of how many things were seen on tv only vs audience and tv, what would you say? 50/50? 70/30? (Does that make sense?) Seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors going on.
from my understanding the damage to Captain Shredirator was bad enough that the team gave up on fixing that bot and went to one of their spares as for the messing with the bot after weighing well we've have seen other bots like Rotator messing with the bot minutes before going into the fight
The autism oke is absolutely outrageous, as someone who has autism, that itsself should be enough for riptide to not come back, if battlebots is smart, they wont get involved with this potential felon anymore.
In all honesty, I liked riptide even with some of the bullshit they have caused but after learning about the autism thing the Stan Kurts did I think I honestly lost about 75% of the respect I had for them and it actually sucks because I love riptide (the bot obviously) I honestly want give Stan Kurts an uppercut so hard his jaw breaks and I know that sounds wrong but considering what he did I think it’s fair to say he definitely deserves it

the fans hate them, the teams are pissed at them for numerous good reasons, and if battlebots lets them in for a next season people are probably going to be even more pissed. at this point it'd be a better decision for everyone involved to not include at least this team back for the next competition

Riptide destroying opponents is not controversial. The biggest "controversy" was Tantrum getting flipped and smashed all over the arena, and still winning the judges "hearts" in their semi-final match against Hydra.
Please, forget about Riptide. The team is probably retiring, scrapping their bot and quitting robot combat forever. It is over. Yall are excited, as I guess😊. The Overwatch2 of the BattleBots is gone.
I really hope at least ethan learn from the negative comments that their team is receiving because he is a good driver for riptide or at least have someone to speak in behalf of the team riptide after a match
Tbh, considering he said "f the haters" during an interview on the show, I feel like maybe he didn't. Though he could've very well had just been referring to other builders in the Pits. I wonder how he would react to all the social media posts saying that he needs to change his ways...Sadly the Riptide FB page has a bunch of people supporting those actions, and I feel like those may not even be from genuine fans (maybe more of casual viewers or newcomers who don't know the behind the scenes of the show). :/

Look, straight up, I think it's disingenuous to make a claim like that. I think it's better to call this an opinion piece than frame it as some raw facts. I was going to watch the rest of this video but frankly, that alone has given me the urge to click away.
I appreciate the honest feedback! I get what you're saying and your opinion is valid. I just feel like without a little evidence-based argument(s) things get out of control quickly. Taking Team Riptide as an example, we can all agree that they've done some shitty things. But when Karens cry about the wrong things, Riptide supporters dismiss any and all accusations based off the weakest link, and then we can't have conversations that matter. Ethan cusses a lot? Who cares? Not worth bitching about. Scamming people over a fake cure for autism? Yeah, that's worth talking about. But we can't have that conversation while other people are getting bent out of shape over a sailor mouth. Admittedly, the sentence you quoted could've been structured better. I do still stand by the idea for the video though, as I think it's important to separate the important topics from the non-important ones. After that's done, you can still form your own opinion. You don't have to think that Ethan covering Martin's mouth was the 3rd worst thing the team has done, but I do hope the video emphasizes why that's higher than, say, hitting Shatter with the pulverizer, or the "late" hit on Glitch! xD
As an autistic person I can tell you that Ethan himself could be autistic because he’s been yelling all over the place and showing lack of social skills and thats probably where his dad got the idea of scamming people for a cure for it. Omg not again, why are we still talking about this whole riptide team drama? Can't we just get over it and move on? I guess you care more about your popularity, clicks and views over the sanity and keeping things non-toxic in the community? I personally feel like a lot of the riptide outrage was so unnecessary. Yes, I understand that Ethan can be a bit out of control and immature with his behavior, this is a tv show with a kid audience, he can't be cussing all the time, putting hands on people mouth, badmouthing others, and being a disrespectful jerk, the yelling can be annoying. But on the flip side, I find it so unfortunate that we just all go crazy taking out the pitch forks and starting wars whenever they express their outrage over Ethan. Like...... we can have a civilized conversation about this without all this toxicity man. Very disappointing we never learned from the s6 finale debacle, just very shameful. And once again I feel like a lot of the outrage was so unnecessary cause they were just overexaggerated with people's own feelings that they can't control. It's like if another team does it then they don't care, but when riptide does it, we all go nuts for it. Starting with the glitch fight, immediately people starting bashing riptide for hitting glitch a 2nd time when they were already flipped. Oh so um.... I guess it was ok for witch doctor to hit glitch multiple times once they stopped moving? Or when glitch was dead against valkyire, all I heard was "why didn't valkryie keep attacking?" You can't have it both ways, it's one or the other. For the madcatter fight, I have to side with the fans here cause once again, no excuses for Ethan to cover Martin's mouth and keep hitting that front armor of madcatter after the buzzer. But next we get to a big one, the shrederator fight. People complain he kept hitting them and caused unnecessary damage. While it's true riptide could have easily backed off, you can't really blame him too much for it since we have the new rule where ANY movement counts and you have to be completely dead to get the ko, so maybe riptide kept hitting shred cause he kept spinning and didn't want to give him any chance. If anything, it's kinda shred fault for not being durable anyway, that's like going crazy over tombstone destroying some of the rookie bots, like what you expect? And as if there hasn't been other past fights where bots hit their opppnent unnecessary that caused damage? Never heard complains about icewave vs yeti or poison arrow vs hypershock. The black dragon fight was fine, wasn't too much craziness. Then we get to the shatter fight and........ this one I blame mostly on the shatter team for it. Why? Well, who started it???? Eric first accused of the riptide team of cheating since he thought they saw him modifying the bot after they got checked. So riptide was re-weighed and saw 2lb less, and Mary go nuts claiming they cheated. Shatter team requested multiple test, riptide team did so and no wrongdoing was found. After the fight Ethan badmouth shatter team and Adam refuse to shake hands. Now I get it, what Ethan said on camera wasn't the friendliest, I mean it's a tv show for kids after all so nicer words could have been better. However, I think Ethan has every right to be upset for getting accused of cheating when he didn't. All he was doing was putting decorations on the bot, not modifying it, and other teams have done it in the past so why was riptide called out for it? And when Mary went absolutely nuts over 2lb, she makes it sound like scale fluctuation never existed before in all of human history. If it was over 250lb, then yeah that would have been an issue, but that wasn't the case, yet she still went crazy. I mean I guess Adam did kept it professional instead of punching Ethan in the face, but I mean...... the refusal of a handshake still leaves a sour taste to the mouth, it's not a good thing at all cause all it shows is that something is wrong. What I'm upset is that shatter team basically starts all this crap instead of minding their own business and not accuse, then they expect riptide team to be calm about it, I just don't get it. Worse of all is the hypocrisy, cause what if it was the riptide team accusing shatter team of cheating? Riptide would still get the brunt of it. This was just so avoidable, if only eric didn't get paranoid. Just a big disgrace man, it really is. Hyperhsock fight was fine. The copperhead fight, Ethan was out sick but felix took over and drive. People complain about riptide team appealing claiming that's what makes them ignorant (again, super hypocritical considering how they think it's ok for malice and other to appeal but not riptide, it was a close fight and they got nothing to lose). I was not okay when I learned that sid from riptide team badmouth felix blaming it on him for why they loss, I mean c'mon. So yeah, that's my personal taste on this whole issue. Given how Ethan pissed off so many fans and all he does is cause unnecessary wars since fans can't control their own feelings, I think it's within the best interest for all of us that he doesn't return. I honestly doubt he'll be able to mature in front of the cameras for the future cause that's who he is, you can't just change a person like that. Riptide as a bot is really cool, I mean so dominant destroying the competition and beating so many bots, that's what we want to see. If they return in s8, they definitely deserve a much harder schedule, maybe they get end game, witch doctor, and two rematches against sawblaze and HUGE. But instead of ethan, felix should take over the reign, just for the sake of the community sanity
I don't really care that much about Ethan yelling and such...not my style, but to each their own. and I would agree that the Shrederator and Shatter controversies (especially the Shatter one) were overblown to a large degree. however...to me, it really boils down to Stan Kurtz's shady past and the very high likelihood that said shady past likely funded Riptide's construction to a great deal. and the fact that this was basically a rich dad buying his kid a carbon copy of someone else's design. those two factors are why I don't want to ever see Ethan or Stan on Battlebots ever again (or Sid, for that matter, just for his insufferable attitude). I agree with your idea that Felix should captain the team, but I seriously doubt that is a possibility. the Kurtzes and Sid think they have done absolutely nothing wrong and are not going to just surrender the bot to Felix.

And you brought up something I did forget to mention, riptide copying lynx (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to). To some degree I don't have too much of an issue when a team builds a newly created bot that looks very similar to another existing bot. Just because one team build the first of its kind doesn't mean they own the rights to that generalized design and other teams aren't allowed to create similar looking bots. Like if a team decided to build a 2 wheel horizontal spinner, that doesn't mean they're boaently copying tombstone in a bad way, maybe it's just inspiration. Calvin may have his own personal pet peeve, but I have no say in that. And i know some people complained about subzero changing their design in s4 to look more like Bronco. Idk, I'm not too crazily upset over riptide "copying" lynx, plus scaling up a 3lb bot to 250lb isn't easy. Plus If anything, I think fireball (the new bot from fc bots) looks more like lynx especially with the color scheme

i really dislike there atitude, robot combat is not just about destruction, its about creativity, imagination, and co-operation.
It's one of the most high-sportsmanship sports out there and that'll always be a core component of BattleBots. The quicker they learn that the better

In all honesty, I liked riptide even with some of the bullshit they have caused but after learning about the autism thing the Stan Kurts did I think I honestly lost about 75% of the respect I had for them and it actually sucks because I love riptide (the bot obviously) I honestly want give Stan Kurts an uppercut so hard his jaw breaks and I know that sounds wrong but considering what he did I think it’s fair to say he definitely deserves it

the fans hate them, the teams are pissed at them for numerous good reasons, and if battlebots lets them in for a next season people are probably going to be even more pissed.
at this point it'd be a better decision for everyone involved to not include at least this team back for the next competition

Riptide destroying opponents is not controversial. The biggest "controversy" was Tantrum getting flipped and smashed all over the arena, and still winning the judges "hearts" in their semi-final match against Hydra.
I wonder if Ethen truly thinks this is all fun and games and his little comments and such people shouldn't get mad it cause its just tv?

I really hope at least ethan learn from the negative comments that their team is receiving because he is a good driver for riptide or at least have someone to speak in behalf of the team riptide after a match
Tbh, considering he said "f the haters" during an interview on the show, I feel like maybe he didn't. Though he could've very well had just been referring to other builders in the Pits. I wonder how he would react to all the social media posts saying that he needs to change his ways...Sadly the Riptide FB page has a bunch of people supporting those actions, and I feel like those may not even be from genuine fans (maybe more of casual viewers or newcomers who don't know the behind the scenes of the show). :/

Look, straight up, I think it's disingenuous to make a claim like that. I think it's better to call this an opinion piece than frame it as some raw facts. Telling people what they should think or how they should feel about something is a cardinal sin, because it not only stifles critical thinking but also asserts your position as correct and/or superior. I was going to watch the rest of this video but frankly, that alone has given me the urge to click away.

I get what you're saying and your opinion is valid. I just feel like without a little evidence-based argument(s) things get out of control quickly. Taking Team Riptide as an example, we can all agree that they've done some shitty things. But when Karens cry about the wrong things, Riptide supporters dismiss any and all accusations based off the weakest link, and then we can't have conversations that matter.
Ethan cusses a lot? Who cares? Not worth bitching about. Scamming people over a fake cure for autism? Yeah, that's worth talking about. But we can't have that conversation while other people are getting bent out of shape over a sailor mouth.
Admittedly, the sentence you quoted could've been structured better. I do still stand by the idea for the video though, as I think it's important to separate the important topics from the non-important ones. After that's done, you can still form your own opinion. You don't have to think that Ethan covering Martin's mouth was the 3rd worst thing the team has done, but I do hope the video emphasizes why that's higher than, say, hitting Shatter with the pulverizer, or the "late" hit on Glitch! xD

As an autistic person I can tell you that Ethan himself could be autistic because he’s been yelling all over the place and showing lack of social skills and thats probably where his dad got the idea of scamming people for a cure for it. I wish the battlebots people would step up and actually question about it. And I guess Ethan testing positive for COVID is karma for his actions. But I don’t it’s gonna help all that much 😤
Omg not again, why are we still talking about this whole riptide team drama? Can't we just get over it and move on? I guess you care more about your popularity, clicks and views over the sanity and keeping things non-toxic in the community?
I personally feel like a lot of the riptide outrage was so unnecessary. Yes, I understand that Ethan can be a bit out of control and immature with his behavior, this is a tv show with a kid audience, he can't be cussing all the time, putting hands on people mouth, badmouthing others, and being a disrespectful jerk, the yelling can be annoying. But on the flip side, I find it so unfortunate that we just all go crazy taking out the pitch forks and starting wars whenever they express their outrage over Ethan. Like...... we can have a civilized conversation about this without all this toxicity man. Very disappointing we never learned from the s6 finale debacle, just very shameful.
And once again I feel like a lot of the outrage was so unnecessary cause they were just overexaggerated with people's own feelings that they can't control. It's like if another team does it then they don't care, but when riptide does it, we all go nuts for it. Starting with the glitch fight, immediately people starting bashing riptide for hitting glitch a 2nd time when they were already flipped. Oh so um.... I guess it was ok for witch doctor to hit glitch multiple times once they stopped moving? Or when glitch was dead against valkyire, all I heard was "why didn't valkryie keep attacking?" You can't have it both ways, it's one or the other. For the madcatter fight, I have to side with the fans here cause once again, no excuses for Ethan to cover Martin's mouth and keep hitting that front armor of madcatter after the buzzer. But next we get to a big one, the shrederator fight. People complain he kept hitting them and caused unnecessary damage. While it's true riptide could have easily backed off, you can't really blame him too much for it since we have the new rule where ANY movement counts and you have to be completely dead to get the ko, so maybe riptide kept hitting shred cause he kept spinning and didn't want to give him any chance. If anything, it's kinda shred fault for not being durable anyway, that's like going crazy over tombstone destroying some of the rookie bots, like what you expect? And as if there hasn't been other past fights where bots hit their opppnent unnecessary that caused damage? Never heard complains about icewave vs yeti or poison arrow vs hypershock. The black dragon fight was fine, wasn't too much craziness.
Then we get to the shatter fight and........ this one I blame mostly on the shatter team for it. Why? Well, who started it???? Eric first accused of the riptide team of cheating since he thought they saw him modifying the bot after they got checked. So riptide was re-weighed and saw 2lb less, and Mary go nuts claiming they cheated. Shatter team requested multiple test, riptide team did so and no wrongdoing was found. After the fight Ethan badmouth shatter team and Adam refuse to shake hands. Now I get it, what Ethan said on camera wasn't the friendliest, I mean it's a tv show for kids after all so nicer words could have been better. However, I think Ethan has every right to be upset for getting accused of cheating when he didn't. All he was doing was putting decorations on the bot, not modifying it, and other teams have done it in the past so why was riptide called out for it? And when Mary went absolutely nuts over 2lb, she makes it sound like scale fluctuation never existed before in all of human history. If it was over 250lb, then yeah that would have been an issue, but that wasn't the case, yet she still went crazy. I mean I guess Adam did kept it professional instead of punching Ethan in the face, but I mean...... the refusal of a handshake still leaves a sour taste to the mouth, it's not a good thing at all cause all it shows is that something is wrong. What I'm upset is that shatter team basically starts all this crap instead of minding their own business and not accuse, then they expect riptide team to be calm about it, I just don't get it. Worse of all is the hypocrisy, cause what if it was the riptide team accusing shatter team of cheating? Riptide would still get the brunt of it. This was just so avoidable, if only eric didn't get paranoid. Just a big disgrace man, it really is.
Hyperhsock fight was fine. The copperhead fight, Ethan was out sick but felix took over and drive. People complain about riptide team appealing claiming that's what makes them ignorant (again, super hypocritical considering how they think it's ok for malice and other to appeal but not riptide, it was a close fight and they got nothing to lose). I was not okay when I learned that sid from riptide team badmouth felix blaming it on him for why they loss, I mean c'mon.
So yeah, that's my personal taste on this whole issue. Given how Ethan pissed off so many fans and all he does is cause unnecessary wars since fans can't control their own feelings, I think it's within the best interest for all of us that he doesn't return. I honestly doubt he'll be able to mature in front of the cameras for the future cause that's who he is, you can't just change a person like that. Riptide as a bot is really cool, I mean so dominant destroying the competition and beating so many bots, that's what we want to see. If they return in s8, they definitely deserve a much harder schedule, maybe they get end game, witch doctor, and two rematches against sawblaze and HUGE. But instead of ethan, felix should take over the reign, just for the sake of the community sanity
I don't really care that much about Ethan yelling and such...not my style, but to each their own. and I would agree that the Shrederator and Shatter controversies (especially the Shatter one) were overblown to a large degree.
however...to me, it really boils down to Stan Kurtz's shady past and the very high likelihood that said shady past likely funded Riptide's construction to a great deal. and the fact that this was basically a rich dad buying his kid a carbon copy of someone else's design. those two factors are why I don't want to ever see Ethan or Stan on Battlebots ever again (or Sid, for that matter, just for his insufferable attitude). I agree with your idea that Felix should captain the team, but I seriously doubt that is a possibility. the Kurtzes and Sid think they have done absolutely nothing wrong and are not going to just surrender the bot to Felix.

@@MisterHoodrich89 I really don't know too much about Stan shady stuff, all I heard was something about lying about curing autism. And you brought up something I did forget to mention, riptide copying lynx (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to). To some degree I don't have too much of an issue when a team builds a newly created bot that looks very similar to another existing bot. Just because one team build the first of its kind doesn't mean they own the rights to that generalized design and other teams aren't allowed to create similar looking bots. Like if a team decided to build a 2 wheel horizontal spinner, that doesn't mean they're boaently copying tombstone in a bad way, maybe it's just inspiration. Calvin may have his own personal pet peeve, but I have no say in that. And i know some people complained about subzero changing their design in s4 to look more like Bronco. Idk, I'm not too crazily upset over riptide "copying" lynx, plus scaling up a 3lb bot to 250lb isn't easy. Plus If anything, I think fireball (the new bot from fc bots) looks more like lynx especially with the color scheme

Matter of fact your recent vids were about controversies in battlebots and I could have swore you said in the comment section of one of those previous vids that you are purposely making those types of vids for views. And I also remember when someone called you out for your hydra vs tantrum who was more aggressive video, you thanked him and then admit to doing it for attention
