I still adore your 'visual novel' style of using CK3 characters. It really helps to distinguish who you're talking about when they're all so visually distinct, unlike using stills from manuscripts or generic art. It shows expressions and lets you frame scenes, like Basil in the city using his network, really effectively to help the details stick. It's a unique style!

I am Greek, but above all I feel Roman, as the greatest social and state organisation the humans were ever able to create. Rome, is not an utopia, it was tested, lasted, achieved and never fell..only changed form. Rome is an indestructible Idea, based on certain Virtues. Bringing in light this virtues of all the fields, it's a never ending fascinating and useful work. I salute your effort, and the ONLY thing I would like to suggest if I may, is the pronunciation of the names from you. Its much much better to hear the names in Latin language😅 Salutationes. B.

How did Basil make himself filthy rich, exactly? Skimming funds to his own purse was the most obvious and common way to enrich onselef (and usually not frowned upon, so long as it was done dicretely and in moderation), but how else did he enrich himself?
Any inheritance of property for what that would have been worth. Officials would be paid a very healthy salary by the state and he was employed for a very long time. He was in joint charge of at least one successful military expedition in 958. My understanding is that a solo commander would be entitled to roughly 1/6th of the captured wealth. He lived through a time of huge economic expansion within the Byzantine empire. Any cheap investments he had made, especially in vulnerable border regions, would have seen incredible growth once the soldier emperors secured the borders. He took down Joseph Bringas as a political rival and would have had a chance to confiscate or muscle in on his wealth. And, of course, skimming off the top and taking bribes would have been expected.
@@blinkyrem thanks. For what you describe, most of this wealth would have been seen as legitimate, wouldn't it? Byzantium did not have the Feudal western idea of liberalitas, which implied that taking wealth was morally reprehensible unless it was to share it with your vassals.
Except if Kuei has a spine, and wasn’t kept in the dark about big event. Like Basil II is opposite of Kuei, like being strong headed and definitely assertive hence why he confronted his great uncle as he drew older.
