It's great that the headcrab guy just ran around and helped the MC rather than try to kill everyone. Dude just wanted to go home and decided to take advantage of his new mobility.
They both know what's going on outside the elevator. Neither of them can afford to waste valuable running-away energy on pointlessly fighting each other.
I mean, 5's clearly insane from the jump. Dude sees one of his fellow prisoners turned into a 9' mua-ha-ha-haing rat-man and is like "we could eat him though." He walks into a bar full of rejects from the Island of Doctor Moreau and just starts bopping to the frog-man's song.
Like that even the main bad rat actually got to escape with them along with the head of Two You don't usually see a game that actually lets the main bad guy live
It also says a hell of a lot about the actual inmates too. They probably know enough about eachother to know that whatever the hell the serum did to the guy, it wasn't him at the controls. They seem like actual pals, as much as they could be.

I find it even more funny having either of the fellow prisoners as the sole survivor actually making it out alive, while the female gets a cruel twist end.
The game feels like the devs were having a lot of fun making it. Lots of goofy and sometimes cheesy bits that got some good chuckles from me. I was expecting a serious toned horror experience, but I'd gladly take this kind of "goofy" horror as well. Personally the almost lighthearted tone of the game feels like a fresh breath of air from the usual grittiness of most horror games.
Yeah, i laughed so hard when 5 just entered the elevator with that guy without saying anything, and when he sees a band of 3 real furries and just start dancing like it's a normal monday.. I think he may be even more insane than the rat dude lmao
To be fair horror games are supposed to be fucking scary. Although there was a period where they got the aesthetics down but forgot the "scary" part which culminated with Resident Evil 6 and Dead Space 3. That said it helps that this game's a rare example of the humour being both intentional and actually funny rather than feeling like the devs are saying "SEE?! WE'RE STILL A HORROR FRANCISE! NOW GIVE US MONEY!"
Since you commented, I got to ask about the design of the two rats in the start of the sewers... Was that a Biker Mice from Mars reference? I kept looking for the third one.
From what I got from the lore: Government tried to recreate something from mythology of old civilization so they built a facility that pretended to be prison on top of old dungeons. They did bio experiments and satanic rituals to summon something like a Rat God. Of course it all turned horribly wrong.
This game is if you took every 1980s "action" movie and squashed it all into a ball. The sets, the puzzles, the cheesy dialogue, even the main guy looks like Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken in "Escape from New York/LA" , and, of course, our hero gets the lady in the end.

Fun game, but I gotta admit, the scene with the rat and the wheelchair was *kinda* goofy. I don't know what's more unbelievable, either - wild genetic abberations... or some guy soldering live industrial electronics without dying. 😂

Notice how he laughs at head crab guys transformation just as he's about to get injected. Dudes a nut. (Well to be fair the protagonist isnt exactly all too sane either, since his first thought when he sees this hulking murderous rat dude is "we could have a huge barbecue!")
I think that's also the likely reason why he didn't kill Pamela immediately and instead put her in a deathtrap to drown. Pretty much everybody or everything else he comes across usually gets directly and immediately murdered by him.

I like how they take the rat inmate back after he being cured. I thought they would’ve throw him to the water but no! They all escaped together ! True brothers!!
Yeah, they have really big hearts, at the start of the game, 4 could just run away the moment he was free, but he took the time to free the other guys, that's a true homie
considering how many people go to prison unfairly and how unethically prisoners can really be treated, it's cool to see a game where they're humanized and even all get away in the end.
I like how when the game starts getting dark souls bullshitty in the dungeons it just puts you back before the trap immediately afterwards just because he wanted you to see the actually rather well done animations. The game isn't supposed to be hard, it's supposed to be fun.
To be fair isnt that "dark souls bullshittery" what Prince of Persia known for? I believe if I remember correctly it was difficult on purpose in order to get you to feed more coins into the machines
You know, the "you're a prisoner in a facility overrun by muntant monsters" theme reminds me a lot of an old cinematic platformer series called "1213" by Yahtzee Croshaw of Zero Punctuation fame. Those were great and this game looks just as amazing!
this game looks, reads, and plays - and i mean this in the best possible way - like it was made by teenagers. congratulations to Bad Coffee on the release, finishing games is very hard work and a significant acomplishment.

But they did well with the absence of music and sound in this. There's few things worse than Foreboding silence only disrupted by noises that you only hope are made by you, if done right.
The lingering camera concept was used in Prince of Persia as well, either to keep the player on their toes on what could happen next or for the player to plan their next move before the next screen. Edit: It works as a hindrance and helps with the puzzle solving.
Spoiler: . . . . . I really like that gang on the boat. What a team. Does 3 even have an idea what he was doing? Was he a friend of them? I smell a good sequel.
I feel like the demo had WAY better dialogue. The humor actually undermines the horror aspect the game has to offer. I hope there's an option in the future to have the more serious dialogue of the original.
yeah. to be fair, dialogue wouldn't help given some of the weirder things in it. (and how chill the prisoners are around the few non hostile scientists.) this game veered hard into camp horror. which is good in it's own right, just not what i thought the full game would be from the demo. it is a bit disappointing, but still glad to see the full game.
More than Prince of Persia, I'd say this is inspired by "Another World", a game by the same legendary videogame artist Eric Chahi. The isolation, the fear of what's waiting for you and if that new unknown thing is goint to kill you, the constant chasing, and especially the feeling of the setting (in AW you're a scientist suddenly transported to an alien world, here you're a prisoner who tries to escape a secret lab overrun by monsters) are much more reminiscent of Another World than Prince of Persia.

If anyone here knows the channel DavidXNewton, the guy's done a brilliant overview of all the first and second Prince of Persia's ports across different consoles. I honestly think this might be something that'd be up his alley.
Everything about this is just amazing. From the simple yet effective graphics, the no-nonsense, cheesy dialogue, the film references, the Spidey Head Bro, the finale, everything. The devs had a lot of fun creating this game, and it shows.
What a lovely game. It captures the old DOS game feeling perfectly on so many levels. The vibe is so campy and over the top, I love it. The rat aesthetic reminds me in particular of one beat-em up game where you could choose between an edgy grim reaper kinda guy and a barbarian(?). You'd fight other weird creeps on the streets and the first boss was some dude who would pick you up and vomit on you. If this sounds familiar to anyone, lmk, I'm not convinced that game actually exists or it was a fever dream.

I’m not sure about the whole thing on Three not being in Control when he got Mutated. I mean, the Guy Smiled when 1 Vomited to Death, and Laughed when 2 Became the SpiderHead. He's Obviously Malicious Enough to Take Advantage of his Change. Edit: Either that or he went Insane after being Kept in there for so long.
Honestly pretty interesting but terrifying universe they established here, wonder if they plan to explore more on it like how even the city has an outbreak of the experiments roaming around pretty much terrifying everyone else.

Bit unnerved that the giant rat monster inmate laughed at the 2nd inmate dying but they still bring him with at the end. Totes should've left him; after all, there's no telling if his actions as the monster were caused by his status as a monster or if that is just how he was as a person and then got granted the power to actualize his psychopathy.

I think it would be a better game without having Pam inexplicably fall in love with Five. I understand that saving someone's life is an emotional experience, but she barely knows him at all. Feels like that relationship was just forced in there for no good reason. Other than that it was great, I liked the puzzles and the other characters and the suspense/surprise transformations or fights.

Everything about this is just amazing.
From the simple yet effective graphics, the no-nonsense, cheesy dialogue, the film references, the Spidey Head Bro, the finale, everything.
The devs had a lot of fun creating this game, and it shows.

What a lovely game. It captures the old DOS game feeling perfectly on so many levels. The vibe is so campy and over the top, I love it. The rat aesthetic reminds me in particular of one beat-em up game where you could choose between an edgy grim reaper kinda guy and a barbarian(?). You'd fight other weird creeps on the streets and the first boss was some dude who would pick you up and vomit on you. If this sounds familiar to anyone, lmk, I'm not convinced that game actually exists or it was a fever dream.

I’m not sure about the whole thing on Three not being in Control when he got Mutated. I mean, the Guy Smiled when 1 Vomited to Death, and Laughed when 2 Became the SpiderHead. He's Obviously Malicious Enough to Take Advantage of his Change.

Bit unnerved that the giant rat monster inmate laughed at the 2nd inmate dying but they still bring him with at the end. Totes should've left him; after all, there's no telling if his actions as the monster were caused by his status as a monster or if that is just how he was as a person and then got granted the power to actualize his psychopathy.

What I loved about this game is its gameplay style which really reminds me of the first Prince of Persia.
I think it would be a better game without having Pam inexplicably fall in love with Five. I understand that saving someone's life is an emotional experience, but she barely knows him at all. Feels like that relationship was just forced in there for no good reason. Other than that it was great, I liked the puzzles and the other characters and the suspense/surprise transformations or fights.
This game was meant to emulate a 90s sci-fi horror movie so of course there has to be a random love interest in it
The head crab is probably my favorite character.
