    Hey girl, I agree with the other comments. I'm a nail technician and it could be either an allergic reaction or an infection. Try these remedies and see if they help
    • Soak the finger nail in warm salt water. This helps to alleviate pain and swelling around the cuticle. Dab the area dry with a clean towel and wrap it with Band -aid for early healing.
    • Instead of salt you can add vinegar in warm water, before you soak your finger. Vinegar has mild anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that help to kill the germs. Dry your finger and nail once you remove it out from the water.
    • Mix few drops of Apricot kernel oil, tea tree oil, jojoba oil and lavender oil in a bottle. Now apply a drop or two from this mixture on the nail and its cuticle area. Tea tree oil is known for its anti-fungal qualities
    In my opinion though, I would get them removed.

      Hi Nicole. HuRry. Im also a licensed nail tech...among other skills haha. I totally agree with what you said. And agree with treatment. I would def do the vinegar bath every day. Its a miracle for nails. Google ingredients in products your nail guy uses...they are very strong chemicals. Also he may have changed brands and your body doesn't like new brand. Either way I would do what Ferry said...take them off. Hope this helps XO Serin

    READ ABOUT YOUR NAILS: Hey Nicole! I am a licensed nail tech, and the EXACT same thing happened to me. It is an allergy to the acrylic. Mine didn't used to do that either, but you can develop an allergy from repeated contact with an irritant and the chemicals. I kept trying to put them on, and my entire hand swelled up and was so painful. You'll have to soak your nails off for it to stop. BUT the good news is, gel is completely fine to get :) it doesn't irritate me at all. Hope this helps!

    • @AmyLynneKay
      @AmyLynneKay 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Oh, I saw some people commenting saying it's because the person you go to is using cheap products, which COULD be the reason, but since you've been getting them done for so long I don't think that's the case. Plus I only use high grade products and the same thing happened to me. If you take your nails off and it doesn't stop, then you can go to a doctor/dermatologist and they can prescribe you a cream (usually steroid) and it really helps. Sorry for the long comments! :)

    I had acrylics for about a year Nicole! I've done my research and talked to many nail techs and they say gel nails are sooo much better for your nail than acrylic. They actually act like a guard on your nails, so when you don't want them anymore, your nail isn't damaged underneath! I get my gel nails stiletto/almond shape and they look better than acrylics! xx

  • @thelatashajames
    @thelatashajames 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I used to react to nail polish the way you react to the acrylic. You can develop allergies as you age or grow out of them so that may be what's happening to you :/ That stuff is pure chemicals girl! I had to avoid polish for years and now like 10 years after I first noticed symptoms I can wear it again. Be safe, allergies can be serious sometimes! You look gorg in this olive color by the way! xx

  • @lvly10r
    @lvly10r 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    The symptoms you are describing are classic for allergic reaction to acrylates - in this case, gel acrylic. If you are allergic to one nail enhancement product, you will be allergic to all of them. Since ALL artificial nail products are made from the same family of acrylates, you will be allergic to traditionnal acrylic, gel acrylic, wrap resins and nail adhesives (glues.) Allergic reaction does not happen overnight, but only after years of repeated and prolonged skin contact to a potential allergen. If the technician repeatedly allowed the wet product to touch your skin around the cuticle area, then this is the way in which you were overexposed. Once allergic, we are allergic for life. You need to have the nails removed and opt for natural nail care. With each exposure, the symptoms will worsen and the acute reaction is that your natural nail plate will lift and separate from the nail bed. The itching and burning will maybe worsen. Hope this helps :) found this in google.

    I went to beauty school and we had to learn everything about nails and acrylics. A lot of nail salons are NOT sanitary. They are NEVER supposed to use a file more than once, in fact if a health inspector was around they would do a lot different. I think your skin is just sensitive to the fact that nail salons are usually really harsh with their filing and cutical pushing and that they use unsanitary things. I'm not a hater I still go to nail salons when I feel like feeling extra pretty but I almost instantly regret it too. And seriously there are some nasty hand disease things you've never even heard of that can spread at nail salons.

      Omg, reading this made me think of the chinese nail place at the mall and how they save time and money like crazy... and then the poor sanitazion... ew.

    • @Mimmivong
      @Mimmivong 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not true.. You can't keep buying new files for every costumer. That's ridiculous, but they need to disinfect them in a special uv-thingy. Just as they do at the dentist or the doctor with their instruments. If you react then you are probably allergic to the acrylic. There is probably really disgusting salons too that doesn't do any of the disinfection that they need or take on customers that they shouldn't so you need to do some research of the salon before you go somewhere. And also does it itch och you react in some way, it probably not the salons fault, it's more likely that you are having an allergic reaction.

    • @BrittAnyAlexis04
      @BrittAnyAlexis04 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The big files they use for acrtlics can be sanitized its the little orange/brown ones that have to be disposed of...I went to beauty school to...it is probably do to not being sanitized but it could also be to mixing products...a lot of places mix cheap with experience and some brands make thier products where you can only use that brand others will let you mix brands

      I know that's so gross! But my mom carries her own nail bag with her own tools so that the nail people can use that solely on her :)

    • @chelsiwagner4534
      @chelsiwagner4534 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that the big files can be sanitized, but it has to actually get done to be effective.That's the trick and if you ask they will clean it, but otherwise I have never seen them disinfect their files in between each costumer. I'm sure they do it once a day or once a week but at the nail salons I've been to they did not clean them after every costumer. It wasn't meant as an argument it was meant as information to help people.

    If you've been going to the same nail place forever, you should ask them if they have changed any of the materials they use. Primer, monomer (liquid), polymer (powder) and things like that. If it is a cheap or low end place, many of those get materials that are not legal for use because they cure quicker. It will have a very dangerous chemical called MMA in it. Just be careful! Always make sure they are using clean implements on you and not reusing from last client. Don't be afraid to call them out.(Licensed Cosmetologist.)

    I too became allergic to acrylic nails, after about 8 years of having them. Same symptoms as you, itchy, swollen and peeling. Got so bad I almost lost my whole nail on my ring finger, as the nail separated from the nail bed. I took them off, let them grow out and then went to silk wrap. Never had an issue. Most ppl are allergic to the bonding liquid. If you are allergic to acrylics, you will most likely be allergic to gel, so they are no good either. Silk wrap are awesome, strong, natural looking and so quick and easy. Love love love. Give them a try, you will love them.

    USE OLIVE OIL ON YOUR BROWS! I few years back I over plucked my brows TO THE MAX (you know, trying to make my brows identical twins instead of sisters) and I'd heard that if you apply olive oil onto your brows before you go to bed and then leave it on there overnight that your brows will grow back heaps quick.I used this method and after a couple of weeks my brows had pretty much grown out. I would say they were completely grown out by the 4-5 week mark :) xxx

      Many eczema conditions are usually allergy related. Omg yes! That started happening to me last 2 times I did my nails, I didn't get the swollen fingers but my palms started itching amd then they start to peel, I tried everything to take it off lotion, scrubs, everything u can think off, but nothing worked! Eventually all went away, what I think happened was we are allergic to a type of acrylic, maybe the person u go to changed brands? It don't even have to be the acrylic, anything new they used probably causes it. So girl don't worry about it and just relax and try a different place, or talk to your nail guy.

  • @BeautyxJM

    I am a nail tech..and im not positive as to why this is happening, but it could be because they are using MMA (illegal and poisonous acrylic) instead of EMA. Try a different nail salon before calling it quits with the acrylic. there are so many brands of acrylic out there and your salon may have switched it up on you and got MMA because its cheaper. Hope this helps!

      +Jenna question for you Jenna, I get gel manicures, not acrylic just gel polish and when they put it on it BURNS! Like burns so bad I can barely stand it. Then it dries and I'm fine, but my nails are ratchet when the gel comes off, essentially forcing me to go get another gel mani asap...any thoughts??? Is this common?!? Oh, and hey Nicole, your videos are awesome!! Totally inspired me to get my pretty on again and I just did a hugeeeee two week long makeup haul including drug store, bh, Mac, elf, etc. Ridiculous!

    • @BeautyxJM
      @BeautyxJM 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its pretty common for your nails to burn for a few second when under the light. even mine do it. it happens when your nails are thin..nothing to worry about though. It depends if your nail salon is taking the gel off properly. ever since I've been doing nails (over a year now) I've kept gel polish on my nails and have never had a problem with my nails being too thin or destroyed. be sure your nail salon SOAKS OFF the gel polish using acetone instead of using an electric drill or filing your nail down. Hope this helps! (:

    Hey girl, so I had an issue with my left hand about 2 months ago. It just started itching like crazy, there were bumps all over it and it was peeling. It was mainly in the palm of my hand but it went up my fingers and on the sides too. Now I have random peeling on just small parts my my fingers. I thought it was some kind of a chemical peel from tanning bed cleaner but I have no idea. I just made sure to use a TON of lotion and balms to just keep the pain to a minimum.

  • @paigehayman1220
    @paigehayman1220 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Nicole, I work in pharmacy and love studying and reading about derm products and all of that good stuff. Your skin problem really does sound like a late onset allergy from the acrylic. But I've also read about people's palms and hands peeling after getting their nails done, and they ended up putting a basic antifungal cream on afterwards and it prevented further peeling. One other option (not sure your skin type), there is a form of eczema that affect's people's hands and feet and can be set off from various things (i.e. acrylic). I really like using Neosporin lotion for eczema, it's so thick and really helps keep that moisture in! Not sure if this helps, but I hope it does!

    The same EXACT thing happens to my mom when she gets her nails done. They would itch like crazy, get swollen then her hand/fingers would peel. She figured out after a couple years that she is allergic to the clear sealant they put on your nails before they layer the acrylic gelish stuff you know after they dip the brush into the powder and then put it on your nail. (Hope that made sense!) She has to tell them to not let the liquid touch her cuticles! This was something that at first she wasn't allergic to but became allergic after getting her nails done for a while. Hope this helps you hun! ;)

  • @bxitaliangirl
    @bxitaliangirl 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have had problems with acrylics too. It's not the acrylic powder but the liquid they dip the brush in that gets me. I get itchy and red and peel-y, and it burns. It goes away but I would avoid acrylics if possible. If you HAVE to have them, tell the nail tech. If they're any good, they have an alternative that does not cause a reaction.

    The same thing happened to me while practicing acrylics in Cosmetology school. I was allergic to a chemical in the primer, which is what you get put on before they actually put the acrylic part on. That could be what is happening to you. My cuticles actually stung and turned bright red and felt raw for awhile afterward.

    I think the problem with the acrylic is an ingredient they add into the acrylic powder to make it last longer and stay on my mums had it and the lady admitted she had added something. See if they have changed products or try somewhere else ? Xx

    Nicole Guerriero The same exact thing happens to me when I use to get acrylic nails!! The itching is so bad!! I don't get them done anymore. I do miss them. Tip for you: Benadryl helps A LOT with the itchiness! I am now trying to grow my nails naturally with the help of gel manicures. I thought I was the only one that happened to me glad I'm not alone :)

      A diet isn't always a bad thing nor does it always mean to lose weight. I think that a lot of girls and women think that way because of media and growing up learning to be self-conscious of how we look.

    I had the same reaction after years of acrylic nails! I went to the doc and they said I had become allergic to the primer (usually the dark brown bottle they use) they use before putting on the acrylic. The work around for me has been "diamond nails" which is where they put on the nail tips, the chemicals are mild and all they do is dip your nails in powder and shape them (you can even do this one at home its that easy! If you want to know the product names they used on me and I have purchased just drop me a line). The other option is having the nail technician putting a nail tip on then using the regular gel nail polish. This allows for length/shape you desire and the support from the gel nail polish.

    Once your taste buds ween off the sugar, you will be well adjusted & your body will feel great! your tastes & palette will adjust to reality too & not require everything to be so sweet. For example, practice by getting used to unsweetened apple sauce as opposed to regular. Right now it will taste bland but its terrible how most Americans taste buds are acclimated to needing excess sweetener. & if you are really dedicated & stay away from it, when you do consume it, it will make you sick !! my biggest tip is avoid anything with white flour.. which is everything.. its a lot of work but i love clean eating. it will optimize your efforts. Good luck !

You aren't alone girl, the struggle, and who wants gross peeling fingers?! I used Neosporin and it seemed to help a lot with the cuticles but as for the peeling there's not you can do after it starts in my experience.

    I found out it was a new primer they started using that helps bond the acrylic to the nails
    just ask them to use old primer and you will be good to go girl ;)

    It's a allergic reaction caused from over priming. Too much priming and priming too close to your cuticle will cause red, swollen, and itchy symptoms. You can neutralize it by soaking your fingers in baking soda and tap water (1 tablespoon to 1 cup tap water). Hope that helps!

  • @Lauraaa.xo1

    it could be that the person you are going to isn't disinfecting its implements correctly and isn't using a new file or buffer on each client as to that carries germs. also the drill has to be disinfected. thats the only thing i can think of that might cause you to have a reaction or like you said maybe its just the acrylic, idk.

    I had the same issue with my nails, I researched it didn't find anything. Everybody would tell me I was allergic to the acrylic or I was allergic to the glue. I would always get my nails done since I was 17. Any who, I took them off 6 months later I went to get them done same reaction happened. So I left it alone and stop getting it done. But I love acrylic nails !!!! I went in the hunt for an alternative, and found SNS. It's great doesn't give me the reaction and the plus is that it doesn't damage you nails. Try SNS nails, I know here in Orlando Fl they have it I know if I go down south to Tampa they don't. So hope this gives you and alternative.

    I have been wearing Acrylic nails since grade 7, and I too just recently became allergic! Sooo annoying! I now do my own, and I am careful when I apply mine and make sure I do not get the liquid on my skin at all, and I have been fine. It is a horrible feeling, mine were so itchy I'd put them in a bag of ice water so I wouldn't scratch. I used polysporn for a bit and that helped it heal faster!

  • @fserna84

    Nicole!!!! About your itchy hands - I had it too!!!!! You do need to change your diet and it's a good thing you mentioned it cuz it has to do with what you eat. I don't know if it's a age 25-30 thing, but I got it too both itchiness and peeling. At first I thought it was some kinda fungus but I too was a junk junkie and a sugar addict. Then I made some more healthy choices like whole grains, fruits and veggies, smoothies, and tons tons tons tons and tons of water. I cut out processed foods, fast food, sodas and candy :( I know but it made a difference. So change your diet habits and see what happens :) I promise it'll get better! Love ya!
