its a commonplace notebook. Very popular in victorian era. You write your thoughts and ideas about whatever topic, things you want to simply put down on paper. Eather to come back to or to forget it. I highly recommend it. Its a very helpful thought managing form of journaling. Yours is deffinetally cuter than mine haha
Thank you so much for the insight!!!
There are some good articles on the Internets about keeping one.
Maybe you need a page on common placing in your book of curiosities!
The Victorian era was interesting. I wasn't aware they had commonplace books. Only journaling and letter writing besides the authors/playwrights. Would make sense though with addresses, directions, books, birds, plants, theatre, and possibly budgeting. I'd actually like to look it up 🙂
@@TheCoffeeMonsterzCo Will you give plenty of warning for when you'll release the leftovers of these notebooks on your site? If you haven't already, that is... 🤞🤞🤞 I don't have ninja fingers like 99.9999% of your fans lol so I'd have to be EXTREMELY lucky, even with plenty of notice... 🥺
This is such a great idea! And now I have another way to rationalize my notebook addiction 😂
Never enough notebooks hehehe
😅 just bought 3 new ones today 🙈
Ah, a commonplace book! They’re the best. I’ve always had one on the go, for over 35 years now 🤭
They are filled with everything & anything externally to us (as opposed to journaling which is from within us). Been around a few hundred years but dozens of modern journalers are doing it.
Yours is a delight 😊
I hope to be like you one day!!! I would love to keep one for the years to come!
I have one too
I remember when I was a child and we first got nectarines in shops here in Denmark (I'm 52, so it was 40+ years ago), my grandfather used to call them "shaved peaches" because they look and taste so similar. To this day, that's how I remember which one is which! 😊
Oh that is so sweet!!! Now this will stick with me
The local word for peach where I live is "Plüschprum", which means "fluffy/plushy plum". I think this is really sweet! 😍
Yes!!! I live in Portugal and here we used to call them as "bald peaches"😂
Love this little book and it is the epitome of a commonplace book. Like bujo, we have had to complicate the concept. In a nutshell it is a book where you record thoughts, what you learn, quotes….Each one is personal. Name doesn’t matter, but you found a great outlet to learn interesting things (and I learned things too).
Thank you so much for your encouraging comment!!!
I LOVE this! I keep a commonplace book for the more or less same reason but calling it a notebook of curiosity is waaaaay more accurate ❤
Hehehe thank you!!!
I could never relate to the Commonplace Book. It was the word "common" that I couldn't accept. So, I also named my notebook, My Curiosity Book, to capture all the subjects that interest me. I love my worldly catch-all.
I'm happy you like this idea!! I never bothered looking into what it was but I couldn't really relate to the name either haha
"Yo, I'm Broc"
"Yo, I'm Li"
*silence*
🤣🤣🤣
I love Helen’s witty humour too ❤😂
I feel like this conversation HAD to have happened at some point in history XD
This was my favorite part! 😂
I’M OBSESSED with your journal! It’s so adorable; my favorite part is the puns and the doodles!
Hehehe thank you so much!!!
So cute! It gets those questions out of the head and onto paper in a creative way. Love it! 😊
Hehe thanks so much Kelly! 😊
please keep up these amazing videos!
i love watching them and if you quit making these videos, ill CRY . these are so satisfying i love the way you make your journal/notebook/planner
aesthetic! Stay safe!
Aww thank you so so much!!! I appreciate your support ^_^ Have a great day!!
helen master of time management teach me how to have time for all these wonderful things!!!!!
You know the answer Lauren. You do the same thing.
☕☕☕
🧟♀️🧟♀️🧟♀️
I use the Hobo 5-year & on the right blank page is a dedicated topic. I.e. academic topics and theories or on relatives' birthdays, it's a letter & memory keeper.
This is inspiring me to do more random topics & even some current events reaction journaling.
Wooow!
I have a lot of blank pages...I'm so excited! Thanks, Helen!! ❤❤❤
learn about the small things in life, that’s such a great idea for a journal !!! Sometimes I see something on the internet or TH-cam and want to write notes on it, but dunno where and how to do it, since it’s not enough content for a notebook itself. This is a great idea !! I think it would be great to do it with my daughter together too, some motivation to learn too.
Thank you so so much! I am the same way! I want to start actually looking into my random thoughts & questions ^_^ Good luck~
The little running man on the skunk page 😂😂
LOVE this idea!! I love being creative AND I love learning about all things. What a great idea for a notebook.
Thank you so much!!!
I literally need that notebook, it looks so cute!
Hehe thanks Kate!!
Oh I love this Helen! ❤. This is like a common place journal - writing down things that interest you. You have a gift of slowing down to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, we miss so much if we don’t pause and stop taking things for granted - I tried it, after you inspired me, and it brings more joy in a day. This journal a gratitude and appreciation “poem” about life and our encounters with it. Thank you for being you and sharing this! ❤😊
Thank you so much!!! You totally made my day
Your facts in each topic were so interesting, and wonderfully random! Can't wait to see the rest of the book when you're done!
Wow, I was just reading a book the other day which reminded me of something I did in my childhood. Which was having a notebook exactly like yours here (mind you, that was waaay before the Internet and I also glued snippets of magazines in there). And I thought to myself: I should really create one of these again because it was so much fun ☺And now here you are in the same week with this video! Amazing timing.
This is so sweet!! YES create another one!!
I use to do the same thing with my notebooks as a child. I should start doing that again too.
Yes! It’s known as a Commonplace book! I did it as a teenager because I loved collecting bits of articles and things I learnt.
It’s so fun to see your notebooks! ❤
Thank you Jenn!!!
Thanks for sharing this! I want to start one with words of the day to expand my vocabulary and then pick another language and to learn with it
Awesome to see you doing something for yourself, I love your curiosity!
Thank you Lisa!!! 😊😊
Happy Cozy Sunday. This was nice. It makes me happy to see you excited about this. ❤
Hehe thank you for watching!! Hope you had a great weekend!!
Great idea, reminds me of a commonplace book which I think would work for me! I also like the idea of writing notes on index cards, since I have been watching Jennifer from the channel Time & Tide plans use index cards for planning!
Ooo I like the index idea!!
love this! hoping notebooks will be available again in the shop one day!
Thank you so much!!
On TH-cam, start with Ellie's Books to learn all about Commonplace books. And then Journal De Sylvie. 2 of the best who have taken the time and have had the education to learn about and share the topic. Since you are a scholar too, Helen, I think you will enjoy both of these channels. Thank you as always for brightening my Sundays!
Oooo I love love Ellie's account! Thank you for the recommendation Liliana!!
As an Epistemophile, I think this little book is so amazing! I have random screenshots of things, but I like your little encyclopedia style notebook. 🥰🥰🥰
Hahaha love that!! I'm save a bunch of things on my computer and forget about them XD
So funny you started with apricots because literally yesterday I also found out about the BC stone fruit thing. I ended up getting Ontario peaches yesterday at my local market here on the prairies, but we did have BC cherries!
Omg yess BC cherries are amazing!! I brought a 12lb box with me back to Toronto when I lived there haha
Love how your mind works.
Hahaha thank you Marj!!
that's such a cute notebook! 🥰
Hehe thanks Chantelle!!
This is so fun! I recently started a notebook like this using the A6 Hobonichi that I abandoned within the first month. I was thinking of adding an index so that it’s by theme. Thant way I can easily locate the information when I need it. So far, my themes are art ideas, interesting math, recipes I’ve tried, food, health, science/technology, and aging gracefully. But I’m going to steal your title because that’s what this is! Thank you, Helen!
Thank you Yukari!!
It looks like we are interested in similar topics hehe. I'm curious now, after your Instagram comment and this one, did you study math??
@@TheCoffeeMonsterzCo I was a math/chem major and I’m a math teacher now, teaching IB math!
This is a great idea! 😍 I am also inspired to incorporate the word “gurt” into my lexicon now 😂
Thank you Sarah!! Hahahaha yay 😂
I love this curiosity notebook! Great idea on how to fill up notebooks >.< Thank you!
Commonplace books are just for collecting knowledge. Mine has lots of quotes, but exploration is a great use for them too. I love yours, and the name you call it is really cool
Thank you so much Amy!!! I need to add some quotations to mine too!
Common place or research book are two names this is called. Glad you found this for you. Enjoy
I loved this, it has inspired me to do my own. Thank you for sharing x
this is actually a great idea-i've always wanted to do one for things I write about and for what I'm curious about sometimes. also the broccoli joke was spot on :)
Hahaha thanks Brittany!! Glad you got some inspooo
Fascinating and original!
this is the most random yet interesting video i’ve ever seen, thank you.
Curiosity is so much fun! I've started something similar, but with a zettellkasten system. ( That means I write interesting things on slip notes, so I can put similar notes together and make new notes on the same topic and put the new note to the old one (not sure if this makes sense...)
( "Glow pear" is because it looks a bit like a pearform)
As someone living in BC as well (in Victoria) I absolutely DO care and appreciate what you shared about stone fruits! it's sad :( thanks for another calming and nice video to end my week with
Aww yay I'm glad you found it interesting! I wonder if our farmers get any support for it :'(
Broccoli is my favorite as well. It’s so good. I also love broccolini. It’s so good but expensive too. Great video.
I found this so fascinating. I think it’s great way to be creative. I love you ❤
Love you more Charissa!! Thank you!!
There's also the Broccoli family that claim to be the originators of the vegetable but are also the producers of the James Bond films since their start.
FUN!!! Going to search this up later hehe
what a fun journal!! today 7/21, is national icecream day. maybe you can add a page about it. :) 🍦🍦🍦tfs
Ooo thanks for the fun prompt!!!
I really enjoyed seeing your notebook of curiosity! (much better name than commonplace notebook😆) I loved your little doodles of fruit and the jokes! Might start a notebook of curiosity too..
Hahaha thank you so much Christine!!! Go for it!
Ha ha 😂 I loooove your sense of humor. 😜👍🏼
I love your dad jokes tooo hehe
Your curiosity is delightful! I am similar. I am curious about different things. I keep thinking about starting a notebook for my random rabbit hole searches, but then I forget.
I have never seen an alive skunk, but I have smelled their spray. (Usually in an area where they were hit by a car. I think there are a lot of skunks were I live) ❤
Go for it Cheryl!!
Oh yikes, I have seen two but never smelled one, thankfully!
I really can’t relate… 😢my notes are totally jumbled up and no way this tidu 🙃😂
When I heard about broccoli, I thought it was," Yo..m I'm broke" 😂😂 then I saw it was brocc.. love your pun, Helen.
Hehehehe thank you Rosalin!!
Love this idea for a notebook…specifically for the random things I wonder about & eventually research. Also, maybe try National Geographic for more on skunks
Oh GREAT suggestion!!!
LMAO @ the “yo, i’m brocc” portion of this video 😂 gave me a good chuckle!
Yeah I think this can be considered a commonplace book! I use the Leuchtturm A6 for mine too, it’s the perfect size for a commonplace book! My only concern is that sometimes I end up getting carried away and doing deep dives on the topic so each topic takes up like 20 pages lol
I agree, I think it's the perfect size!!!
Helen, Add another one to the planner “pile” hehe -stack! What a great idea 💡!!! I ❤it! Sending love your way! Jenean
Hahaha go for it Jenean!! I know yours will be filled with lots of fun ideas!
Skunks are a common topic just now. In the UK a few people keep them as pets and one escaped last week, resulting in a segment on national radio about skunks as pets and in particular how often they spray. They are not found wild in the UK and it is apparently illegal to release them. Not sure if the skunk has been found yet, but he has been sighted in the local area of his owner!
Oh wow O__O Okay okay I take it back, so much more to learn about skunks!!
This was incredible!
Thank you Drew!!
I like broccoli. I recently learned that you can eat it uncooked for example in a salad. And I know that it is a good food to prevent cancer or support healing, in case a person already has cancer (Book: Krebszellen mögen keine Himbeeren - translated it would mean „cancer doesn‘t like raspberries“ but I don‘t know the english title of the book.)
I couldn’t get over your green table as I have a green table too so I felt like I was watching myself. 😂
Happy Sunday Helen❤ I want one of your notebooks❤❤❤❤ I always buy pink ones. Mine are for brain dumps.
Thank you Kimiko!! Love love Leuchtturm's pink!
Love your videos. Thank you for beeing you. You are my inspiration ❤
You are too sweet, thank you!!
Love the apricot doodles so much, plus I am a new subscriber.
Thank you Tatiana, and welcome to my channel!
@@TheCoffeeMonsterzCo thank u
I loooove this😊👍🏼❤
I also have a notebook dedicated to learning about miscellaneous things that don't belong in my reader's notebook or my Daily Grind notebook (which includes lists of things to do around the house, quotes, etc.) I will start another commonplace notebook next year, but I haven't decided on the format.
Hehe it's so much fun!! I love the idea of a Daily Grind notebook too!
Loved this and your Yo! Gurt joke. 🙂 P.S. I think you would enjoy the following book: The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair. You learn the history and other facts about a variety of colors in about 1-2 pages. It's so fun and interesting!
Hehe thakn you Michelle!!
Omg I have been meaning to pick this up! Thank you for the suggestion~
@@TheCoffeeMonsterzCo you are very welcome! 🙂
Broccoli derives from the wild mustard family! 🥦
Yayyyy!!! I can watch your videos over and over again and still can watch them couple of times more..... ❤️❤️❤️
Are there any giveaways you plan to???
Thank you so much!! What sort of giveaway?
Any stationery ??@@TheCoffeeMonsterzCo
So lovely ❤
I was driving home from work and saw a dead skunk and I thought to myself “In my 33 years of life I am not sure that I’ve ever seen a live skunk “ 🤣
I love this. I have tons of mini notebooks lying about and I always think, this would be perfect for jotting out random notes but then I lose the notebook and grab another one until I have so many random lists in random notebooks and I can't find them when I need them 😆
same!!
Yes! I have a cute pocket notebook that I wasn't sure what to do with. This is perf.
Hehehe glad you got some ideas!!
Hey Helen, do you have a fountain pen ink that would be similar to paynes grey or is it too light? I like that color too!
Hi hi!!! I love Diamine Earl Grey!
This is so lovely!
Thank you so much!!🥰🥰
So cool
I have started a little notebook like that in a fields note notebook. It is small enough that I can fit a ‘subject on each page. Right now it is filled with movie reviews, prayers, etc. I got bored reading about apple -- sound about right. 😂
Ooo Field Notes notebooks are so so cute!!!
Hahaha yep XD
Lol I love puns, esp bad puns. Here's one, the name of Bruce Lee's brother?
Brocco-li.
Ahh my fav vegetable is the Chinese Broccoli (Gallan). Yes kale is similar and also in the same family but it doesnt go soft when cooked like the Chinese broccoli.
I love me a stone fruit, my fav is the yellow nectarine.
LOL I love that XD
It is so so so good in a stir-fry~
@TheCoffeeMonsterzCo yesss. I like it with either lots of garlicn little bit of salt, sugar and some Chinese rice wine.
I love the pen. What is it and where can I order it?
Skunks and racoons are invasive to the island of Newfoundland and there are none here. A raccoon came over on a ship a few years back and it was euthanized :(
Snakes also are invasive, although now there's apparently a significant snake population throughout the island.
Oh no!!! Poor raccoon... Thank you so much for this tidbit of infooo!!!!
I giggled with the Yo!gurt haha
I hope to meet a Gurt one day
Nice! I love your channel. ☺
Thank you! 😊
omg i did not know about the stonecold fruit shortage in BC
Omg skunks 😂 my dog has been sprayed so many times and the smell is terrible. They’re adorable but the stink is so hard to get out. Not sure why the smell is so hard to wash off.
Oh gosh hahaha. Thankfully I haven't had to deal with the smell... yet
Lazy is not a word I would use to describe you! I hear you say that a lot …..
I’m sure there is going to be a page on sardines surely? Whenever I pass the sardine section in the stores I think of you without fail! lol
Anna, you get me
I hope I'll be able to get this cute ntbk.
yehey. i am not alone... ❤❤
Waaaait, what's the deal with the avocados? I rarely eat them but I had soaked some to keep them longer, but I don't think it was necessary. It was rock hard weeks after purchasing. Somebody please tell me what the notebook says about it. I like information about fruit and colors!
LOL, fun fact: Broccoli is named after the producers of the James Bond movies.
time for an entry on commonplace books in the little notebook of curiosity :)
You are so right 😁🙂↕️✍🏼
For the most part this is a commonplace planner/journal. It's a notebook full of random things you've discovered. I'm going to email you the playlist I created about commonplace planners. This actually is something that I want to put together for myself and it's been on my to do list for 2024 along with my notebook for my tcmc packed by stickers, orders, etc.
Thank you so much for the info!!!!
When I was a kid there was a cartoon about an amorous skunk called Pepe le Peu 😂
Omg I love that hahaha
3:20 lol, their name in my language literally means "pencil" 😂
Also Chinese broccoli is yummy
IT IS!! Stir-fried yum yum
you are so cool! ❤
good morning helen!
G Morning Ambrosia!! Hope you have a great day ^__^
Hey Helen, you should check out Chromatopia David Coles if you’re interested in learning more about colour.
Have you decided on your planners next year ?
WhT is your line up ?
❤️👍🏼
Wonderful video! I like the size of this notebook!, i think it will be a lot quicker to fill since it is smaller.
In my own personal journalling, I keep fighting the urge to start a new journal for a specific topic/idea but im worried i wont be able to remain interested in them beyond a month. Now that I think of it, I'm wondering if using thin small notebooks (like traveler size) might be helpful for journal ideas that I may only want for a month??? hmm
You are so right!!! I have trouble filling-up notebooks so I have settled for smaller or thinner ones haha (or smaller AND thinner...)
Howdy!!
👋👋👋
With all due respect, but the bullet journal notebook is much *too* small for my personal use.
That's totally fine! You can use a bigger one!
