I find the calm very relaxing as a new player. It gives me time to work on leveling up all the class jobs and crafting jobs. See some other stuff that I miss when working through the MSQ. Working through a lot of the best tribe quest too. It’s relaxing and fun!

Yeah this is relatable more to people who have been playing 3+ years and have done all that. Crafters maxed, Gear PVE,Crafting and Gathering gear is max, Jobs maxed all 90 6 or 7 bis jobs, all quests and side quest done, all beast tribes done, All raids completed, all extreme mounts, all Gold saucer stuff, all ultimates beaten even. I know a lot of people like that, and they feel very bored with the game now. They should have released the new beast tribe or the island sanctuary for people to do during the downtime. Hopefully it comes out soon

I totally agree with this!! I don't feel like I need to rush to catch up since there's not a whole lot going on right now. I'm also a sucker for gpose and glamour so I spend a lot of time doing that as well as I'm going through the story.

I agree , this video isn’t geared for us . I’ve been playing almost a year and still have a ton of stuff to do since my main focus was the msq and side quests that unlock duties . Heck I still have the omega raids to do. For a new player the lack of hype gets rid of the urgency I felt before trying to catch up and still enjoy the story

I'm currently on a hiatus from FFXIV and playing GW2 in the meantime.
I love how I can easily pick up and drop those two for awhile and feel like I won't be far behind. FFXIV via catch up gear systems and GW2 via horizontal progression and no monthly sub fee. GW2 does have a daily login bonus like ESO, so I'll probably still take advantage of that when I return to FFXIV for a bit.

One of the things I really wish FFXIV had is a collections tab for mounts, minions, and armor. It would be SOOO much easier to collect so stuff doesn't clog up one's inventory or retainer space

The game is designed for breaks in between. Whether its for a few days, weeks, or months at a time. Even high end content such as raids & ultimates promote it to a certain degree (i.e. once you've received BiS, you're kind of done until new & relevant content is released). Overall it really depends on what your personal goals are. I stopped doing Savage raids week 10 I believe after I received BiS & only do DR Ultimate on the weekends with my static. Outside of that I started focusing my attention on mount collecting, PvP, crafting, etc. I'll get on for an hour or two after work at most and spend the rest of my time playing another game or going outside and touching grass.

It's also, in my opinion, an excuse I am partially happy to hear and live with. It's better than some modern online games' mechanics that are designed to keep your permanently in your chair with strong FOMO, daily meaningless grinds that exist solely to keep you logged in, and opening your wallet being a direct necessity to have the highest edge.

The thing is.. FF14 has always been designed for people to take breaks everything in the game promotes this. So for people who do play non-stop its not a surprise to feel like you've beaten everything and its very repetitive (but i do wish there was something on the side for people who do play consistently but i doubt that would happen) personally i would love something that you could unlock for your main classes if you played it long enough or something
As for transmog in this game.. it needs a massive update. the limit of storage is a massive flaw at this point in time

I think a big problem (for the people making those posts in the video) was that 6.1 was a massive PvP update... I think the people who feel like 'there's nothing to do right now,' are definitely not PvP'ing. And I get it. Lots of people want nothing to do with PvP, it's cool... I've been playing since ARR and I feel like this sentiment mostly comes from newer players who just joined the game and burned through years worth of content in less than a year only to realize that they raced to the finish of a 10 year race without necessarily enjoying all the steps along the way. I would hope that those players would take the time to go back and do some of the content they may have glossed over in their rush to get through the MSQ but if they don't want to do that then simply take a break from the game. Yoshi P has said to do this I don't know how many times at this point and I make it a point for myself to simply stop playing the game if I'm not feeling it because I love the game and in order to keep loving it in the long run then taking breaks is a good thing.

Oh definitely that’s a big factor. Me and my husband came back to the game in late 2019 and only caught up with msq after 6months because we were going very slowly doing lots of side stuff along the way. It took us I think almost 2 years to clear every bigger side content there was. We still have lots of nooks and crannies unexplored.
We focused on building a social FC too during that time and having friends along the way helped a lot as well. We met so many amazing people and had so much fun during seasonal events in pandemic when we couldn’t travel home for holidays. We instead organized parties in game for Xmas etc.
All of this made me very connected to the game despite needing to catch up.
If I tried to play all msq in a rush that would definitely make me burn out… I’m currently going through it again on an alt just because I want that experience again 😊.

After beating the story, it took me a couple times to login and rediscover my next goals.

I have felt fatigue, but I’m taking it easy now and levelling other jobs etc. When I see fresh sprouts around while doing these low level level ups I feel jealous. Been spending time in SHB zones and doing duties with “first timers” in those duties and really miss SHB, and yeah, jealous they get to do it for the first time.

We are in that phase of the story where it is similar to an end credit of your usual marvel movie. Yes there are teasers on the new adventure, but it really is all about "the warrior of light will return soon". Personally its a good time to explore all the side contents, specially older ones you might have missed. Also a good time to try other jobs. Start on activites you might have not dont before (hunt trains, treasure maps, raiding, DOH/ DOL stuff). Basically a time to branch out of MSQ content.

Linking my Lodestone with FFXIV Collect helps me a lot with the collectible "minigame" of FFXIV. While not as integrated as an add-on, it shows how much I've collected in each category as a progress bar, and gives me something to work on during the gaps between patches.

  • @Oddbolt
    @Oddbolt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

100% agree with zep on the collecting. A big reason I struggle to get back into the game when I come back now is my inventory and glam dresser are full of outfits I love and don't want to throw away, but it's such a pain playing with no space. I craft and decorate houses too, so even buying extra retainers doesn't help after a certain point. Rather than go out and get even more stuff that's going to clog up my inv I just don't play the game lol.. pretty unfortunate really.

  • @warhammerguy
    @warhammerguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

I had that feeling right after completing 6.0 back in late January or early February i think, but by then i had been playing FF14 almost non stop since i joined in late may last year, so i didn't really have any urge to do much if any endgame stuff after the msq. So i took a break.
But when 6.1 came out i felt much more refreshed and willing to do more endgame stuff after the patch story was over.
No matter how much you love a game you will always eventually burn out. But when that happens it is much better to take a break until you feel ready to return instead of forcing yourself to play it. This goes not only for ff14 but for several of my favorite games where I took a break and came back feeling much better.

  • @SonicSwifter

I feel like the thing that made me really love this game was going from ARR>SHB at shb launch then taking a break for like 6 months. Once I came back, I've barely missed a day of playing, the initial break just made me realise how much I love this game and the people you meet in it

  • @MikeKane848
    @MikeKane848 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Guild Wars 2's equivalent of glamours is one of the few things the game does damn near perfectly. It makes it so much easier to finish collections, achievements, etc. when you can just see what you have, not to mention just having a skin available forever once you unlock it means you're more likely to change glamour.
I barely touch glamour in this game because it's such a hassle in comparison to other solutions. I almost said "modern solutions", but GW2 came out in 2012!

My first major burnout was in 6.0, I was pretty much where a lot of new players are now, I started playing about 5 or 6 months before shadowbringers release so I had months of working through the story's then working through gear progression and raids, then for the last month or two I did Eureka, then 5.0 released and I did the story and normal raids and felt like there wasn't really anything to do. I ended up taking a break and came back a few months later for 5.3 and then I had more raids and alliance raids to do, I also bought a house which I sank tons of hours into. I think there are plenty of optional grinds you can do if you really want to, like I decided with bozja to go for the emblazoned title even though I'd finished getting relics long before that, there's the solo deep dungeon achievements, currently I'm working on getting the big fish title which has taken me months etc etc. There's quite a few prestigious titles to work on before you even consider ultimates. I do wish we had a better glamour system though so I could collect everything.

FFXIV is an MMO with a Final Fantasy skin on it. Rarely do you find people who play Final Fantasy titles to this day inside the community, because a JRPG is very different to an MMO. I've only played games FFX through to FFXIII-2.
Most people have played, or know of, FF7. You won't always get very far trying to talk Final Fantasy in FFXIV, because grinding random encounters in a turn-based party system is very different to the fully realtime combat system of most MMOs.

I would love to have more of an incentive to go back and play older dungeons outside of the ones I get in my duty roulettes. Outside of leveling, the only time I ever go back to play older dungeons is when I need to farm a specific piece of gear for a glam. I understand that making new types of collectibles will take time and money, so why not try to re-use certain assetts in new ways? The first thing that comes to mind for me would be housing items. Imagine running a dungeon like Dohn Mheg and and finding a little tiny replica of the Castle that you could display in your house, or even taking the models of the dungeon bosses and turning them into trophies/figurines! Heck, you could even do the same thing for trial and raid bosses as well!

From a new player's perspective it's really comforting to know that there's heaps of content and story to work through, but an ultimately finite amount since new patches will come, but they're small bits of considered content not massive chunks designed to keep you running on the treadmill. I do also love the feeling of having things to collect, so it will probably be a bit disappointing when I eventually do get all the major things I want. Glamour dresser does need a revamp desperately though, just picking up pieces I like from dungeons and getting excited about cool sets up to the beginning of SB I hit the cap of 400 really fast.

6:10 I actually love how ff14 feels so finite, because most other games I've played in the mmo genre, if you don't spend 100% of your time grinding to be raid ready, you essencially fall behind and the catchup content is effectively non existent. Where as ff14 you simply buy the crafted gear and you are raid ready, the only reason to really grind something is to do some side content for the fun of it, I've spent a ton of time crafting ship parts for my free company and that content effectively wasn't mandatory nor did it give me any sort of major edge, it's just neat content with some rewards attached.

I’ve played since 1.0 alpha and it feels sort of like how it did when 1.23b’s story was over. That was the last piece of content we got until 1.0 ended, and we knew the servers were going to shut down eventually. So my focus shifted almost completely on my own little goals. I got friends through 1.0’s story - plenty of trips to Castrum Novum and the Rivenroad. I went NM hunting in the special island arena, chocobo caravan’d some friends GC ranks up, joined grinding parties (Coblyns in Thanalan/Raptors in Coerthas). Explored the 1.0 zones to find little secrets. Did a lot of mentoring, catching newbies right outside Ul’dah’s front gates and showing them the ropes, doing a few leves. Good times.
These times seem similar. I’m running ~7 of my friends through content and having a blast! Working on a new relic, leveling more classes to 90 at my own slow pace. May bring some friends through Eureka.

Suffice to say I won't be resubbing to XIV for a while, but looking forward to playing this game is something I'll do, as I've always done in the past. Even when I've taken breaks to do other things, I've always kept XIV in the back of my head, just wondering where the next adventure will take us.

As someone who took a break and went to Gran Turismo 7 after the MSQ, collectables are NOT always the answer. Collecting every car is fun, but so many people turned it into "Drive X track with Y car and you can run Z time" Where Z is minutes faster than anything else available. Everyone moves to reddit and goes "This game has no content" while running the same race every day for several hours. Developer comes along and says "You used a loophole, were patching the loophole so we can try to put tuning back into online races again" Community pitchforks come out and "Worst Developer ever" is plastered over reddit.
Ask them to define decent payouts, and they list what they were earning using the loophole, and the developer puts out new races that are a third of that and everyone just goes back to finding a new efficient grind because they haven't paced the game out for themselves.
TLDR: People are optimizing the fun out of the game, so rather than having fun with the game and making slower progress, players demand fast progress and draining the fun out of the game. Its not just a FFXIV/MMORPG problem, its a gaming problem... developers can never win against people who burn themselves out with an unhealthy pace.

I've been playing since ARR was the main content. Personally, I'm sort of burnt out from FFXIV as well, especially since I have all jobs at 90, but I've been playing stuff like Beat Saber, Blasphemous, Hollow Knight, Axiom Verge, Code Vein, etc. I took it upon myself that while I feel this way with FFXIV, I'd finish/enjoy the other games in my backlog/Steam library & I'll come back to FFXIV when I have more of a drive to play. I still login daily in FFXIV, but only for some small daily things before logging out & continuing playing my other stuff.

I think it also depends on the type of player on whether or not they feel burn out. Like for me personally I'm not a big fan of most pve content. Don't like repeating raids dungeons or high end pve content (Mostly becasue I'm not good at it) and the pvp in the game is... a bit lackluster. So for me, I reach burn out once I completed MSQ and fully geared, then I just unsub and go back to playing ESO or WoW or BDO, whatever tickles my fancy that time.
But for someone who does say do high end pve content, it'd take a little longer to experience burn out, at least thats how I imagine it.

I think it's because there isn't much to grind in ffxiv. All we have is maybe some relic weapons or eureka. So if you've done the story and have no interest in savage there really isn't much to do. Wish we had some optional time sinks.

Fate farming, eureka, Bozja, BLU, crafter gatherers, PvP, MGP, Glam, Ultimates. Idk, unless you’re an old head there’s still so much to do if you’ve felt like you completed a content you feel pretty finished with. Hell go level other battle classes to introduce yourself to new ways to play or to content locked behind the other classes. Role quests, special actions… FFXIV had so much to explore, and 98% of it still exists.

If you only want to play the story and come back, sure. But there is a lot more to do in game besides just relic weapons and savage. Its just all optional

@@Halcypian Exactly! Like there’s just so much to do you can’t say there isn’t a grind if you don’t want to do savage and ultimates. Find something to collect, go sightseeing, do extremes to get mounts, it’s like if you want to grind on something other than hardcore content you can 200% find something else to do unless you’ve been playing this game for a long time and have completed finished a bunch of optional content. But at that point you’ve already experienced so much that like, maybe exploring other games isn’t a bad thing

@@Halcypian bozja doesn't take long neither does farming glamour especially thx to the limited glamour space 400 I think?
Got pvp crystal rank in a week.
Crafting and gathering feels pointless exept you need gil and i don't.
      Already done blu.
I don't do ultimates for the same reason i don't do savage because i don't like having to do voice chat and having to deal with bullshit people.
Lvling up other classes is also pointless if i don't like playing them and despite that i only have 2 job left at 80+ and it's way more efficent to lvl through dailies than grinding.
      mgp rewards are very lackluster
Fate farming is just a scam, the amount of stones you need for the new mount isn't a time sink it's a torture, farming the gil to buy it would be faster. I got all zone to stage 3 and that already was one of the most boring and experiences i've ever had.
As i said of all the things i played so far eureka and relic weapons felt like the only enjoyable and meaningfull time sink so far. And i tried or completed everything exept ultimates.
Currently trying out nekromancer title which is also incredibly repetitiv and boring. Most of the stuff just doesn't feel rewarding, like why do savage?? Just so your gearscore from 595 to 600 and becomes irrelevant the next patch?
With eureka you could unlock entire new maps, new story, new dungeon, earn gil and artefakt weapons. Bozja was pretty cool for a while but it's a lot faster and only 2 maps.

I got massively burned out mid-Stormblood after spending a lot of time catching up on the MSQ between 2019-2020. I had some mental health issues going on at the time, with a mixture of pandemic burnout as well and also just not enjoying Stormblood. I knew I needed to stop. I felt physically ill playing the game. I almost stopped playing entirely. And I didn’t return until several months later, slowly dipping my toes back in, with the intention of getting caught up in time for Endwalker. Slowly but surely, I enjoyed the game again. I now take regular breaks as the content release schedule naturally allows for breaks. The game is designed this way. It’s not designed to be played in huge marathon sessions, catching up on years of content.
I knew after Endwalker finished I needed some time away and play some other games. I’ll always be back though! My mantra is the minute the game stops feeing fun, it’s time for a rest!

I loved Runes of Magic and Lord of the Rings Online for their collection systems (among other things). Runes had a card system where almost every mob had a collectable card that once collected provided small permanent stat bonuses to your character. LotRO would reward players with titles and stat increases (I think) for killing certain mobs in specific regions over and over. It was a really fun way to add meaning to the mindlessness of grinding and the chance for a reward outside of basic loot was incredibly motivating.

I'm still playing regularly mostly because of my static slowly progging through savage. If not for them I probably would have stopped playing and just come back with 6.2. I don't think that's entirely a bad thing, though. I still have plenty to do when I log in outside of raid times - leveling alts, collecting TT cards, debating finishing the Eureka story - so FFXIV has overall just become a chill game. And I'm totally cool with it.
If the game felt like I just had to keep playing it week in and week out at the same rate as I did on expansion release then I think I would be suffering from a harder burnout and maybe stop playing entirely. I don't have the time to go hard on one game forever, and if I felt like I would be getting behind I would probably just stop.

Go to PvP profile and Series Malmstones to see what you've earned and how far you are from the next rank up. Be careful not to cap on the Trophy Crystals and spend them in the wolves den. You have to click on them to claim them. You have to rank up in the series 25 times.

I've had this game since 2012, a few months after 2.0 released. I can tell you that I've had my burnouts but that's what makes ff14 imo. I always ended up coming back after months of not playing and everything is still there. I don't really miss much and I get to pick up where I left off, most times feeling like im playing a brand new game and spending months and months into it again. It's perfectly fine to leave and just play other games, you don't gotta play every day and finding friends that play other games can help too. When I just about finished shadowbringers and got most of my relic weapons from Bojza I stopped playing for about 6 months, still paid my sub since I had a house and covid hit. Then just before Endwalker came out I started playing again to make sure I was ready for it. Ended up leveling all my toons to 80 and getting my Amaro ♥ and been playing ever since. I'm a little more off and on lately since I like playing plenty of other games but I still log on daily to get dailies and weeklies done then I go play something else.

Maybe FF14 should have more user generated content. Like minigames to do with your FC and more interactable housing items so you can plan get-togethers or an open house for strangers. I once found in PF of someone advertising their large house. We visited it and the whole house was modeled like a public aquarium/museum. It was a fun tour tbh, very creative how they set the aquariums and stacked them in different levels. The tour guide would explain each room and showed booths where you can take pictures, it was so immersive.

I'm not taking a break atm, but that's 100% because of CC. I'm just so into it.

There are thousands upon thousands of items to collect on FINAL FANTASY XIV.
Definitely more than World of Warcraft, and probably most RPGs ever.
    -Triple Triad Cards,
    -Orchestrion Rolls,
    -Fashion Accessories,
    -Mounts,
    -Minions,
    -Relic Weapons,
    -Lost Actions,
    -Hairstyles,
    -Bardings,
    -Emotes,
    -Materials,
    -Housing Furniture
-Seasonal Event Items (a unique Seasonal Event is live almost all the time)
-1.0 obsolete items (Ultimate collection items)
    -Blue Magic Spells,
    -Armoire Items,
    -Achievements,
    -Titles,
    -(Big) Fish,
    -Sightseeing Vistas,
    -Field Records,
    -A million different Firework Items,
    -A million different Tokens,
    -Journal Entries and Quest Completion,
    -Gear and Weapons,
    -Aetherpool Augments,
    and so much more.
Achievement collecting alone is almost 10.000 hours worth of gameplay.
    I don't understand.

Once I beat all blue missions did some relic grinds and finished msq I made an alt and started to re do it all over again for that emotional Rollercoaster :D

I think making alts in ffxiv is underrated af. My friends who have been playing years longer than me are still sitting on their main char and I made 10 characters and I swap between all of them xD (Mainly for RP but also cuz I love the game)

FFXIV has always been a game that I felt like I could take a break and not get left behind! Where if I missed a month of wow for whatever reason I was behind on renown or rep or something crazy. But in the lull between content patches I have to freedom to take a break if I need it or like I'm currently doing and farming ShB relics for my other jobs haha

I love wow, and am playing tbc classic right now. I want to play through the release of wotlk classic but once it winds down I think I am gonna jump on the FF XIV train because of that. If i take a break in wotlk ill get left behind

I'm a newbie who is happy to go at my own pace. I'm replaying the MSQ with someone... I'm slowly working on a relic weapon. I'm gathering stuff for mounts and minions. I'm taking my time to enjoy the scenery now that I finished 6.1. And... I'm trying out some other games on the side, including GW2. It's nice to not feel like I'm stuck in grind unless I want to commit to that grind.

I have played since 2013 with a few years break and I'm reaching a point where I have most of the even HARD grind things to collect, Parade Chocobo and all that. I'm seriously running out of stuff to run, I'd love to have more collect goals

  • @Enderlinkpawnu

I may be playing the game to high hell right now but I am going to take a break soon: Monster Hunter calls.
But as for what I am doing to occupy my time: I finished Endwalker, I maxed my account (except BLU), and now I am focusing on relic weapons. I am currently working towards all the ARR relics at the moment. The shiny relic weapons are my collectable of choice at the moment, and it should keep me occupied for a good while.

From what I've heard, the collection/completionism from WoW sounds so fucking nice. If there was something like that in FF, It'd be heaven.

I never played wow but I've always thought about how fun collecting is in mmo's, it's pretty sad that it's really not very well done in 14

Yeah, I haven't played WoW in forever but I watch some WoW collection content and it looks relaxing. I wish FFXIV had a better mount grind (minions probably too, but those are better imo), something close to toys in WoW, etc. It also kind of lends itself to further completionism content if you have a couple great systems, it'll motivate you to participate in other content you'd maybe be less enthusiastic to do otherwise.

    • @Willias

@@yScribblezHD The problem with mounts in WoW is that a lot of them are just alternate colors of other mounts. FF14 doesn't really do this.

    • @yScribblezHD
      @yScribblezHD 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Willias FF14 does something even worse in my opinion - the harder a mount is to get, usually the lamer it looks. The problem with WoW's reskins is that it can diminish the accomplishment or prestige of a separate color, FFXIV does this innately by asking you to farm 500k bicolor gemstones and awarding you with a low res ARR mob as a mount.

I've found when I felt burned out I feel better after taking a break for a day or couple of days. Have been playing for about a year but I'm taking a break from MSQ to level alt jobs and some other personal goals. When they're leveled I'll do the next expansion. There's so much to do and I want to do it all so it's easy for me to get distracted and burned out. 😅

Not feeling obligated to play is refreshing and is honestly a design philosophy that I hope will stay. Yes, it will lead to lulls in content but it gives me freedom to play FF as much as I want, as intricately as I want

Do wish there's was emotes for chocobo, an raising your own chocobo, having group emotes and storyline for your special companion and raise the chocobo you have, since they do not live forever in a way... o.o; maybe even a place where chocobo's retire and getting a healthy spa and food arrangements?
Maybe a place where you can get scenic photos with your friends and near ones. A place where you can see more special environments?

I honestly enjoy the bit of down time, from storm blood on I felt this pressure to get to the end, to save everyone an deal with the big baddy.
we need an emotional break from the edge. to remember why we are here and in the world of final fantasy, adventure and explore. ya we want a good story but nothing good comes from it being rushed.
let us enjoy that "new" feeling again. the happy growing up within the world. that sprout feeing lol.
