I am a comedian and have been hearing stories about Brand the rapist for over ten years. Any notion that these stories have been made up recently because he’s some sort of truth teller are nothing more than a smokescreen.

As a survivor of a sexual assault who found the court proceedings more traumatising than the actual assault, I can tell you exactly why these people might not have gone to the police. In my case he was acquitted because, despite evidence of violence, it came down to my word against his as to whether I consented. At least by going to the media they can warn others to avoid him even if there isn’t sufficient evidence for a prosecution. I can honestly say I’m not sure I would go to the police if I were attacked today unless I had an eyewitness or video evidence of my lack of consent.

That one girl literally went immediately to get a rape kit done and then later decided not to report to police to get him charged, but yeah.... they didn't "report it to authorities". For real. The times of London started investigating him in 2019. He definitely realized journalists were digging into his past and contacting a lot of people who knew him, and this is around the time he made the conscious choice to pivot to the right-wing. He knew for a fact that they were the only audience who would defend him against something like this and allow his career to have any chance of surviving.

As a white guy whose been looking into and researching civil rights a lot more the past few years, cry bullying is something that comes up a hell of a lot. What worries me is this documentary was originally about multiple comedians. It then got reduced to just Russell because of legal pressures. So now I am left wondering who the others are that managed to wriggle out of this doc, and if the truth will ever come out? I think it's important to point out that the manner in which Brand cites his addictions as the cause of his behaviour goes directly against the principles and methods of treatment espoued by recovery programs, including Alcoholics Anonymous. For Russell Brand to be denying these accusations only proves that he is not working any program whatsoever, and it's very unlikely that he is engaged with or being cooeprative and helpful to any recovery network, anywhere. Nobody would survive in an authentic program of recovery while carrying around this type of guilt, let alone remaining in denial and trying to defend themselves over previous actions. Russell Brand manages to give addicts and suchlike a far worse name than they already deserve in the name of his insane, egotistical pursuits. It makes me wonder if the addictions were really his main issue, or if the real issue is that he is in fact such a raging narcisist. I though it was wortwhile to point out that Russell Brand does not represent the many many people who have changed their lives drastically and do genuiney good things all of the time with the help of various addiction recovery programs.

I notice a lot of people bringing up "Innocent until proven guilty" and "Due process" in regards to all this. It's funny because those things apply to the possible future trial, not any current discussion or action which doesn't violate the accused person's rights. TH-cam's decision is not unreasonable given what Brand has been accused of, even if they haven't suspended his stuff altogether. His upcoming tour has been naturally cancelled due to what could happen in the coming months rather than some imaginary court of the internet. So far Russell Brand has not been arrested so due process seems to actually be happening in spite of all the pearl clutching. Knowing a lot of this is coming from people who would argue every refugee is a potential rapist or any LGBTQ+ person a danger to children makes the whingeing about due process all the more annoying. Yesterday, I was listening to the radio and I heard about the Russell Brand situation. After a short description of the allegations, the host proceeded to say the ever present misogynistic phrase of "why didn't the victims press charges earlier" and other talking points reminiscent of #HimToo bullshit. Needless to say, I was disgusted but thankfully my mother changed the station.
Now I understand why RB grifted to the right. He knew these allegations would eventually come out. Brilliant move. He knew his right wing audience will back him no matter what he gets accused of, or proven in court.

The thing is this stuff happens all the time in all kinds of jobs/ situations. It only gets attention in the entertainment industry because they are in the public eye. It's rampant. For people with not much money, it can be more trouble to report things like this than not.

Of course you can have sex with a 16-year-old in a place where the age of consent is 16. As long as you yourself aren't too young for the sex to be legal. What you cannot do is rape someone. It seems like the term "grooming" is no longer a descriptor of actual cases of abuse, but a slur to be used against those perceived as "woke". They tend to feel that their opinions are constantly under assault and that they need to protect each other from all this. So naturally they are going to think that he's being silenced. It's easier for them to see the allegations as proof that their own opinions are important than for them to have to adjust their opinions of the guy, and therefore possibly their opinions overall. The appeal of aligning oneself with this crowd is kind of obvious - while you might alienate some people, those that you attract become your fierce defenders.

As a survivor of a sexual assault who found the court proceedings more traumatising than the actual assault, I can tell you exactly why these people might not have gone to the police. In my case he was acquitted because, despite evidence of violence, it came down to my word against his as to whether I consented. At least by going to the media they can warn others to avoid him even if there isn’t sufficient evidence for a prosecution. I can honestly say I’m not sure I would go to the police if I were attacked today unless I had an eyewitness or video evidence of my lack of consent.
i’m really sorry you went through that. one of my biggest regrets from university was reporting my SA to Title IX because i was just retraumatized for months for the old male adjudicator to say i “manifested consent”. the system is broken for us.

What worries me is this documentary was originally about multiple comedians. It then got reduced to just Russell because of legal pressures. So now I am left wondering who the others are that managed to wriggle out of this doc, and if the truth will ever come out? Katherine Ryan and Sara Pascoe had made it obvious over the years about Russell, he is simply disgusting. I think it's important to point out that the manner in which Brand cites his addictions as the cause of his behaviour goes directly against the principles and methods of treatment espoued by recovery programs, including Alcoholics Anonymous. For Russell Brand to be denying these accusations only proves that he is not working any program whatsoever, and it's very unlikely that he is engaged with or being cooeprative and helpful to any recovery network, anywhere. Nobody would survive in an authentic program of recovery while carrying around this type of guilt, let alone remaining in denial and trying to defend themselves over previous actions. Russell Brand manages to give addicts and suchlike a far worse name than they already deserve in the name of his insane, egotistical pursuits. It makes me wonder if the addictions were really his main issue, or if the real issue is that he is in fact such a raging narcisist. I though it was wortwhile to point out that Russell Brand does not represent the many many people who have changed their lives drastically and do genuiney good things all of the time with the help of various addiction recovery programs.

That's a huge issue with seeing certain things as inherently virtuous that simply aren't.
I notice a lot of people bringing up "Innocent until proven guilty" and "Due process" in regards to all this. It's funny because those things apply to the possible future trial, not any current discussion or action which doesn't violate the accused person's rights. TH-cam's decision is not unreasonable given what Brand has been accused of, even if they haven't suspended his stuff altogether. His upcoming tour has been naturally cancelled due to what could happen in the coming months rather than some imaginary court of the internet. So far Russell Brand has not been arrested so due process seems to actually be happening in spite of all the pearl clutching.
Knowing a lot of this is coming from people who would argue every refugee is a potential rapist or any LGBTQ+ person a danger to children makes the whingeing about due process all the more annoying. Yesterday, I was listening to the radio and I heard about the Russell Brand situation. After a short description of the allegations, the host proceeded to say the ever present misogynistic phrase of "why didn't the victims press charges earlier" and other talking points reminiscent of #HimToo bullshit. Needless to say, I was disgusted but thankfully my mother changed the station.
The same was said about Danny Masterson.

The thing is this stuff happens all the time in all kinds of jobs/ situations. It only gets attention in the entertainment industry because they are in the public eye. It's rampant. For people with not much money, it can be more trouble to report things like this than not.
My dad used to say: If someone accuse of something, ok he might be an asshole, but if 5 people accuse you of something you are the asshole.
But there are also many cases in which only one person knows that another person is an asshole. And cases in which only one person has the ability and position to speak up.

It seems like the term "grooming" is no longer a descriptor of actual cases of abuse, but a slur to be used against those perceived as "woke". So, yeah, a right-wing grifter can't be a "groomer" if they give the appearance of anti-wokeness. This, of course, will attract groomers as it provides allies to fight back against even the most legitimate allegations. It seems that when crooks band together on a large scale, they end up creating havens for groomers as a byproduct (kinda like what happened with the clergy).
I used to like Russell Brand in the early years when he truly was anti-establishment. But now he has dollar signs in his eyes and realized being a right-wing grifter is much more lucrative than being anti-establishment. And I am disgusted with all the right-wingers jumping to his defense calling his charges a setup.
You're right about people giving him too much credit by saying this was all a big masterplan. He started grifting because his mainstream career was tailing off. He had a really strong take on how what had been done with the story on Russell Brand being very good journalism and the correct way to report on allegations. All the comments turned on him. Pretty wild how people are willing to defend rapists they like vs rapists they don't.
If you look on all the channel 4 videos about it absolutely everyone on there thinks this is a media takedown.. I mean can't we be critical of channel 4, their handling of him in the past and maybe even how their dealing with it now, without thinking that the women making these allegations are fake themselves.?!

The literal womens world cup has that guy kiss the captain on the mouth, and yet yes he finally resigned but after a while and the Spanish FA threatening to sue the players, and thousands of people still think it was no big deal
Rape convictions are notoriously difficult to achieve so why not get him with the media?
I 100% believe that if Epstein became a conservative political figure (even if it was just a couple tweets) right when the accusations were gaining more traction, they would have defended him too.
I do not know if he is guilty or not. I do know that when you are charged with something like this using the "they are cancelling me for being close to the truth" is not a good look.

There's a powerful ingroup mentality with the people who like Brand nowadays (conservatives and conspiracy theorists). They tend to feel that their opinions are constantly under assault and that they need to protect each other from all this. So naturally they are going to think that he's being silenced. It's easier for them to see the allegations as proof that their own opinions are important than for them to have to adjust their opinions of the guy, and therefore possibly their opinions overall. The appeal of aligning oneself with this crowd is kind of obvious - while you might alienate some people, those that you attract become your fierce defenders.

Let's remove any views of Brand's intelligence of lack of it, it's irrelevant and dismissive of the victims. As a rape survivor myself I know how tempting it is to try and understand the mind of these criminals, but none of us ever can, and none of us should care. He absolutely has know for a LONG time, he even said in his pre-emptive video "I'm aware of news media making phone calls, sending letters, to people I know, for ages and ages". There's no way 2 huge orgs were sniffing around him for 4 years without many people telling him they'd been contacted. I think he did what many predators have done in the past, he played to whatever audience served him at any given time. Whether that was an 'intelligent' plan, or/and a manipulative abuser just 'muddling along' as he abuses, is irrelevant.
