Excellent video John I run boats for a living on a Commercial scale transporting Petro Chemical and I can't tell you how many times I see people with boats make Bad decision. I wish it were mandatory boaters have to do a 7 day course on rules of the road and radio communication. We definitely don't blow through there when others are inside the gate fender works.... Thanks
Hi Jon. Good safety tips. Have you ever gotten locked out with them closing the gate? I know there is a website that shows the status but what about advanced notice of closure? Have not fished the upper end of MRGO very much but woukd like too. Thanks.
Redfish Slaya, I’ve only seen the Wall gate closed for maintenance. The Bayou Bienvenue Gate does close in high water. You can call this number for current information and you can leave your cell number which they might call if they suddenly close the gate. (504) 286-3100 X1040
Unfortunately, when fast-moving boats make a sharp turn into the gate coming from the north side, there isn't much that can be done if you coming through the south side. I always stay diligent going through the gate and cross my fingers, but I see a lot of bad boating here. Incidentally, all you impatient fishermen....you're driving over the fish! Slow down, take a breath, and fish methodically around the area --- you may be surprised at what you're missing!
