This is one of my favorite cars you have bought. I almost had one as a first car, but my brothers friend threw a rod in it a week before I was supposed to buy it. Keep working on it!
I love the little citation that reminds me of my grandfather he had one that he got used from the city that he kept out on his farm that we would use to drive into town to go pick up small things we needed those are the only memories I have left of him
I bought a first year 80 model in 87. It was a 4 door, 4 speed, 4 cylinder. At the time I had just moved to New Mexico and it was all I could afford. Bought it with 85K miles. Put a Mellings timing gear set in at around 100k. What a difference it made. No longer sounded like a diesel. Made it to 175k by '93 and the trans went bad. I couldn't find a good transmission but I did find a nice running 80, 4 door, v6, 4 speed for $200. Only problem side swiped on drivers side. I drove it from Albuquerque to LasVegas and back to see how good it was. It ran like a champ. 75mph there and back. Got just under 30mpg and didn't use any oil. Swapped the entire front cradle with v6/4speed into the good body. Simple plug and play. Did it all in 1 day. The 4 cylinder exhaust and cat bolted right up to the v6 exhaust manifold/ y pipe. I kept the car until around 1996 and got $500 for it. Never had any problems with it. It was a manual steering car btw. Miles when I sold it were 345K. BTW back in the early 80's I lived in Chicago and used to cruise up to Road America to watch the road races. There were a bunch of X11's on the track and they were running with Datsun 280z's and Triump TR6's and other makes of similar (2.0 -3.0 liters?) and to my surprise they won several races and seems to me there was a race they finished 1st, 2nd and 4th. They weren't fast but man they could corner. Road +Track magazine at one point claimed the X11 was the fastest car to run their slalom track.
I used to own one just like this, silver/Grey metallic with red pluche interior. I believe it was a 1981 i bought out of a confiscation for about 250 euro's/dollars. It had the carburated V6 of 2.8 litres and it was straight-piped and it sounded great! Drove very good and was very reliable. Sadly i had to let her go because of a bad rust disease but got good memories of this car. Hope you get this one all geared up and relive your childhood memories!! Greatings from the Netherlands.
Bsck in 1985 we got an 81 X11 hi output 2.8 4 speed manual. It was a beautiful bright red. Somewherei have pictures of it. Only repair I remember was a left drive axle, and new Goodyear Eagle GTs.
Love this series Randy. I know it's just a Citation, but to resurrect a car someone else gave up on, and one that you just don't see anymore is amazing. The fact that's it's carbureted and it runs fine may shock people since people have been taught that carburetors are garbage. Even if you spend $1,500-$2,000 on it, you'll know you've brought something back from the dead. A detail, cheap paint job, new tires, new fluids and a tune up and you'll want to drive that thing everywhere. These basic cars (like the K-car, Taurus, and rear drive GM cars), are memories of every 80s kids youth. Keep finding and fixing these cars when you can get them.
My parents had one with the same body style, 4 door hatchback. Was blue with blue vinyl interior. Seats were lava in the summer. It was a couple years old at the time, but had almost no miles on it. Still smelled new. Once it got close to 100k miles, it wasn't doing so well, so we dumped it on a POS Dodge Dynasty. I think the Citation was a better car than the Dynasty.
I think most folks(including myself) wanted to see what was up with that car. Would it get running and driving? Like a lot of folks here, these were all over the place in the 1980's and early 1990's. Not a sexy "you have arrived in life" type of car but an honest point A to Point B transport
That little Citation is amazing! I'd love for you to be able to source those filler panels. It'd definitely be cool to see it in "poop" brown like it was. I can't wait!
I kinda had a similar experience with you in a citation. My father had a goldish brown 1983 Chevrolet Citation when I was younger. My mother was driving one day to pick my father up from work (late 1980s) and she ran underneath a 54' semi tractor trailer. But the car we had was reminiscent of my youth as well. Car was fun to ride in and my father took that car everywhere until he traded it in on a new 1989 Ford tempo for my mother in 1989. It too was brown and brown interior. I remember being the recipient of a few backhands. I liked the car because it was just far enough behind the driver that, if I set straight up, my father could not reach. Lol, good times.
wow, for a car in that condition , that engine sounds like new. never be afraid to do a car for nostalgia's sakes man, I would love to find a 1976 ford mustang II, not much of a car, but man, it had a lot of memories..
I used to think that Citations were ugly, until I bought my first 81. Since then I've owned 3 81s the first and 3rd one were the 4 door hatchbacks the 2.5 4 cylinder 4 speed. The other one was the 2 door hatchback 2.5 automatic and the 4th on was a 80 2 door hatchback 2.8 V6 automatic. For them being kinda small they were one of the best riding cats I ever owned.
I dont like Chevys at all, but because of the sentimental value and history you had with this Citation and the era it came from Im really loving it and the videos of it.
I had one of those as my first car at 12 years old. It was same thing as your mom's brown/brown and belonged to a great aunt who died. I used it to drive trash to the road from the house. Good memories. Not a good car but at 12 it was amazing.

I bought a new 1980 citation with the X11 engine and a 4 speed. The tranny was terrible, but that engine was awesome. I had no trouble shutting down mustangs and camaros with mine.
I had a 1980 citation for my first car in 1990. I had to replace the brakes the half shafts and the wheel bearings seems like always constantly. Other than that it was a decent first vehicle at the time.
So glad that Citation runs! Also glad to see part 2 of this was waiting honestly, have heard lots of bad things about these cars but I notice they always seems to just keep on going. Sad honestly a lot of these got crushed I miss seeing them always on the roads. Awesome you got to save this one Randy love this content always entertaining and great to see.

I believe I told you I had a 1980 2 door Citation and it was brown. Sold it to my wife's God Daughter and her husband and drove her from Cincinnati Ohio area to San Diego California with no problems. This was in December of 1988.
Randy, looks like there is a 84 Citation in a junkyard with 4 good White bumper guards or whatever the name is. Steve Magnante did a UTube video on one in a junkyard on March 22, 2022.
Well with all of that enthusiasm, you might as well keep this for yourself as a family heirloom. Get a replacement dash! And headliner! Does the heater and AC work? Find an X11 hood. Paint it white, add X11 graphics. Good Michelin tires, and it will be your always dependable go to ride! Bet you won't se another at any "cars and coffee" gathering! Ooh, find the optional camping tent!
Since these old-school charmers weren't the desired muscle cars that have been restored in the past, it's a guarantee that these will be soo much rarer to find especially restored, so the value on these will shoot up given time.
I think you can do a little better than just poopoo brown all over. UPGRADE! Do a hideous metallic gold (think 00-02 Cavalier or Metro) on the top half (above the thin bodyside moldings) and the poopoo brown metallic on the lower half. Bezel for the dash cluster if you have it. I'm sure there's a stock radio out there somewhere, they were vertical right next to the AC controls. Filler panels and the hubcaps and that's easily a $4000 car after a proper detail. Personally I'd rather it stay white if the paint cleans up nice. Not going to have working AC without spending a lot of money so need to reflect as much heat as possible.

Your story reminds me of a memory of mine i remember when I was 4 being in the car with my mom and dad it was an old white mercury sable driving down a dirt road near home listening to whitesnake here i go again
Michael is a great friend
I bought a new 1980 citation with the X11 engine and a 4 speed. The tranny was terrible, but that engine was awesome. I had no trouble shutting down mustangs and camaros with mine.
Mine Was a 2 .5 Lit. 151 4 Cil.Called The Iron Horse!! Great Car
Good job Randy on restoring that Chevy Citation. Great memories 😎😎👍👍
So glad to see it running! I've been hanging on seeing this! Can't wait to see it painted.
luv u Santa. when I was 10 my Mom took me 2 Macys 2 c u and I asked u 4 a bike and u came through. believer 4 life.
You simply don’t see them around anymore. It’s been years or decades since I last saw a Citation. That alone makes it worth saving
Good to see mic looks like hes doing good good video
I had a 1980 citation for my first car in 1990. I had to replace the brakes the half shafts and the wheel bearings seems like always constantly. Other than that it was a decent first vehicle at the time.
It seems u r surrounded by good Mikes, Randy. That is a blessing all alone! Love the cute little Citation , waiting for the outcome of it 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼
So glad that Citation runs!
Really enjoying the Citation. Please finish it! Loved the Chey Citation X11 Try to find one of those.
thats a cool old story, yes completeing the car would be full circle to your memory, and make sure you show it to your mom when its done
Yes, part 2, great car, video and work guys😎👌
Good Video Randy Always Entertaining with Michael (Santa) Helping you can't wait to see what else you do to the car
Its really inspiring to see you get that car up and going, my mom got us around in a 59 green Rambler.
i remember the special sports model of these things , the "xj-11" i think it was called. as i recall the only thing that was done was a hood scoop and some pin striping which didnt do it much better
Still cant wait to see that old Camaro you wanted Because the body was perfect to come back to life
Keep fixing it, awesome.
So I went to my local pullapart and saw a minty dodge airys k car and said dam you don’t see them any more and for some reason I thought of your TH-cam channel
My mom had a silver 2 door stick and a 4 door brown one I remember riding in them as a kid also
Love the Citation content!
The poop brown paint fits this car perfectly. It was the poop video that I spied this little gem sitting there. I was like, oh my, Randy has to get that Citation.
Love what ya doing randy but really you got stop rubbing those fingers on the oily motor hahahahahaha just kidding randy love ya channel mate
I missed a lot of the cars during my childhood good memories even seeing a 93 grand prix gtp in perfect condition at McDonald's last night reminds me the white one my mom had

Absolutely brilliant Randy
I believe I told you I had a 1980 2 door Citation and it was brown. Sold it to my wife's God Daughter and her husband and drove her from Cincinnati Ohio area to San Diego California with no problems. This was in December of 1988.
That interior looks really nice.
Randy you have a very good friend with Mike from Santa's workshop .
Love this citation video my mom bought one new in I think 81 was blue on blue and she loved it
she fired right up
very nice classic car.
i been waiting for this. .this one is a keeper
I don’t think this car needs paint. White is great to rattlecan restore.
Randy, looks like there is a 84 Citation in a junkyard with 4 good White bumper guards or whatever the name is. Steve Magnante did a UTube video on one in a junkyard on March 22, 2022.
Fantastic video you two!!!! I was born in 72 so I got a few on you buddy! However, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE RETRO CAR VIDEOS RANDY!!! ❤️
You 2 guys are pros , great video ✌️🎉🙂
Well with all of that enthusiasm, you might as well keep this for yourself as a family heirloom.
Get a replacement dash!
And headliner!
Does the heater and AC work?
Find an X11 hood. Paint it white, add X11 graphics.
Good Michelin tires, and it will be your always dependable go to ride!
Bet you won't se another at any "cars and coffee" gathering!
Ooh, find the optional camping tent!
Yessss the Citation 🤘🏽😊
Keep on trucking in it Randy love it 😊
You should fix up the Camaro. Swap motor. Get wheels and ground effects and paint it.
