    I remember watching this broadcasted on Mexican TV in Spanish of course. It was weird, Ash and Misty were in love, Giovanni was Ash's father.
    Also I visited The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. They also have an archive of lost media. It's a computer lab connected to an archive of random recordings. I managed to find the Rocket Power's unseen Pilot, 100 Good Deeds of Eddie McDowell Pilot starring young Shia LeBoof, Untitled Seth Green Project which is Robot Chickens Pilot. I wonder if Paley Center has this musical.

    I hope they don't expect a 720p or higher version of something that came out in the year 2000.

    • @belstar1128
      @belstar1128 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Those movies where filmed on a high end film based camera and stored in a vault they where re scanned with a hd scanner when the blue ray version was made since film is not electronic so if the camera was good the quality is better than even 8k.
      But with smaller events like this Pokemon thing they used tape since this was from the year 2000 they may have used a kind of tape that was better than vhs probably just as good as dvd but it is very unlikely that they used a film based camera or a early hd camera.

    I remember hearing all kinds of legends about how awful this musical was on forums back in the day. When it went unreleased, I assumed that it lived up to this reputation and that they must be embarrassed by its existence, wanting to hide it. A year ago, I found the tapes on TH-cam and watched them with friends expecting it to be laughably awful and really... it wasn't. Yeah, it was really out there and the story was weird, but the actors gave it their all, seemed to be having fun, and didn't phone it in. I would love to see some of the puppets they made for it in-person because they look very well-made in the behind-the-scenes features about it, and it'd be a shame if they no longer existed. I think it's at least an enjoyable watch, as a mix of ironically enjoyable with some legitimately good qualities mixed in. Also, Giovanni's theme is hilarious and I quote it with friends all the time.

    Most Broadway shows don't have DVD releases because in the contracts with the script owners it's generally stated that live recordings are not allowed and can get you kicked out of the venue. Even pictures during the performances can get you booted. I have been in theater and have a degree in it. There was a school locally that got fined a ton of money for selling videos of the performance and had to find and give back all of the takings made. I agree with your points that they have only to gain but theater people are very attached to the experience and think recordings cheapen the live experience.

    • @blockyoxwinkle5829
      @blockyoxwinkle5829 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think thst kind of mentality is going to hurt the live theater industry in the long run.

    • @Gilhelmi
      @Gilhelmi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And that is why theater is dying.
      I live far from a theater, but I enjoy stage performances and musicals. They are denying the majority of people because they want to maintain their elitist club. That is sad and disgusting.

    • @MrJoeyWheeler
      @MrJoeyWheeler 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was going to say "and that's why Theatre is dying" but Gilhelmi has already said it.
      The Theatre is an outmoded form of entertainment, and because it has such limited reach, it must begin releasing it on home video as well to survive. Otherwise, it will go the way of the circus.

    When I saw the title, I thought you meant the original cut of the first Pokemon movie, where it showed an older trailer of Ash & Pikachu almost getting hit with an explosion, Team Rocket on a battle ship, Brock & Misty running away from something and near the end it shows an adult Misty with the blue hair woman from the Movie and a little pink girl with presumably Ash's Pikachu.

    • @Replicatte
      @Replicatte 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, but I still believe the original cut of the first movie had to be the finale of the series before they changed it to continue with the series. Oh well, that's marketable strategy I guess.

    The reason the Chicago VHS was never released is because our show's producer wanted to integrate the projections with the video itself and took on the Job of editing, but as time went on the project kept getting pushed back due to being busy, becoming less and less of a priority. Then when 4Kids went bankrupt, assets were split up and the VOBs are probably now just sitting in a storage facility or even gone completely. It could of been sent to Pokèmon USA in Milwaukee or even Yugioh's headquaters. But if anyone tries to contact them, they tend to be very snarky. And sadly the reason this show was never archived for the New York Public Library is because it was a limited run at Radio City Music hall with immediate plans to tour, not an official Broadway show. If anything the houses it toured at could have their own archived video of it that they could use for their educational programs.
    The reason official Broadway DVD Releases don't happen more often is because of the different Unions, which have different guidelines and conditions, all to protect copyright and production staff working on the show. It's not as simple as changing a clause in a contract. Plus the production costs to film and distribute could end up not turning profit- Exact reason why Spider-man: Turn off the Dark was never filmed, even though intended to be. If they are put online that gives the chance that they can be ripped and distributed for free, like the video you showed of American Psycho, it was ripped from a bootleg DVD and can be watched for free- some what the same aspect, resulting in no compensation for those part of the filmed version.
    It is still unclear if the video is still in existence, hopefully it is and we can see it come to life in a few years. Hope this info helped answer any questions. :)

    As someone who has plaued in several musicals, I can safely say there are multiple other reasons for a musical not to get an (official) video release or why it won't be leaked online.
    1. It doesn't translate well to film. A show is almost always recorded, but sometimes it just doesn't hit the same way as a life performance or just misses the mark entirely. For the simple reason that a musical is meant to be a life viewing experience. A sort of "you had to be there" kind of thing. So companies decide not to release it because it is just not up to standard or does bad in test screenings ... even though a lot of money was spend on voice snd video recordings.
    2. Musical rights. In some cases the rights to use certain songs in a musical only last as long as the production is performed, after that, they are simply dropped. I have multiple recordings of musicals I played in, but I can only show them in a donestic setting, any public viewing or an online leak can put me (or anyone else caught doing it) in serious trouble.

  • @trunksosp1
    @trunksosp1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Main reason that musicals are not released on video is that they would have to pay the actors, designers and technicians more. Your contract (in most cases) is only for live performances. If they are going to record it for release you would need to pay Media rates. (which for technicians can sometimes be upwards or triple) also they would have to deal with actors equity guild, Designers ART union and IATSE for the techs. and that's not even getting into the rights that the publisher of musicals own.

    Pokémon Live! was a musical stage show that toured the United States on September 22, 2000 to January 19, 2001.[1][2] Plans for some 2002 performances in the United Kingdom were also made,[3][4] but later canceled.[5] Despite that, Pokémon Live! was invited to perform in Dubai, U.A.E. at Al Mamzar Park in the duration of March 2001, coinciding with the annual Dubai Shopping Festival.[6] The musical was based on the Pokémon anime series, using similar characters, clothing, and story elements. Approximately 90 minutes in length,[7] it told the story of Ash Ketchum, Misty and Brock as they travel to a contest to win the much sought-after Diamond Badge. The event turns out to be part of a plan by the evil organization Team Rocket and its diabolic leader Giovanni to take over the world. The music of the show consisted of songs previously released on the Pokémon anime soundtracks Pokémon 2BA Master and Totally Pokémon, as well as new songs.
    The show was successful, but it was largely ignored by critics.[2][8] It has never received a video release, even though Pokémon's official site contained a statement for quite some time implying that such a release would appear.[9] A cast recording CD of the show, however, had a limited release.[10]
    A Portuguese version of the show, produced by television company SIC, was performed from March 21 to March 27, 2002 at the Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon.[citation needed] Amateur video clips of one of these performances, made by someone who attended the show, were released on TH-cam in June 2008. Since 2013, they have all been deleted.[11] A Dutch adaptation of the musical was performed on April 6 and 7, 2002, at the Sportpaleis in Belgium.[12][13]
    A video of the original tour was uploaded to TH-cam in January 2012 by Chris Mitchell, the Production Stage Manager for the tour. It is broken into seven parts: Pokémon Live! Part 01 of 07, Pokémon Live! 02 of 07, etc.

    I don't think I've clicked on a notification faster than when I saw Pokemon in the title, even though I was hesitant because I was on a Star Wars lore binge.

    I think I met somebody who own's a copy of this that Pokemon USA sent her. Theres this girl named Pikabellechu, you may know her as the owner of the infamous Pika-Bug ( a volkswagen beetle that looks like Pikachu). She has one of the biggest collections of Pokemon merchandise ever (seriously she turned one of her rooms into a pikachu themed museum, its actually really cool). But I remember asking her about the musical and she has claimed that she has a copy of the Musical. She might know some things or have a physical HD copy of the performance. TO THE FACEBOOK.

    Musical scripts are updated and rereleased constantly, even if they were initially flops. It's annoying, but the slight possibility of there being a new tour means that the physical distribution probably won't happen since home recordings could impact ticket sales.
    Every show typically has official recordings for archival and personal reasons, even Off-Broadway or your local theatre. However there are strict laws prohibiting distribution from the scripts rights holders, such as MTI, The Rodgers and Hammerstein company, Warner-Chappell to name a few. If you're interested in finding this show, I'd trace back the distributor and get some information directly.
    I've been a professional musical actor for some time now though my TH-cam channel definitely doesn't prove that

    Sort of hoping for something else, like an actual movie. I don't remember which one, but a Pokemon movie was released right around the time HeartGold and SoulSilver were announced. After the credits there was a stinger that had Lugia and Ho-oh fighting each other in the sky, but nothing ever came of it. I always wondered if maybe there was some Pokemon movie planned that never made it out of production and they went with whatever movie came next.

    Yea no it was actually a widely known thing that happened atleast here in the east coast in US. They had commercials of it and actually came to Boston at one point. This was after the release of mewtwo returns. Went under the radar only because it happened about the same month as metwo returns. It was a quick one show gig kind of thing..

    The Professional footage probably isn't HD anyway as it's from the early 2000's. Most shows still weren't filmed in HD at that point, I doubt that a recording of this play would be HD. Though a professional recording would still look better than a camcord recording. Of course it could be converted to HD but I doubt they would do that if they even released it.
