Honestly his way of getting mad at his son is amazing. Rather than shouting he gives a time out for them to reflect themselves

I learnt in psychology that this method of discipline is called 'induction' which basically means you explain to your child what is it they've done wrong and why it's a bad thing and how it can negatively affect people. It's a very good way of allowing a child to learn from their mistakes and be more empathetic. There are two other methods called 'love withdrawal' and 'power assertion' but these two are not good ways of disciplining because they can encourage your child to be engage in bad behaviours when they know they won't get reprimanded for it. Unfortunately, most parents use the latter two methods :( I'm glad Jiyong doesn't!!

sorry bae tbh , compared to how i grew up ? this is waaaaaay better than how i grew up
I never really got hit when scolded , but was just screamed at and shouted , which let's be honest fucked me up mentally and regardless that i became like them for some time but i developped myself to be just patient and not inherit those aspecets from my parents
I seriously could've become a psycho as to how i was treated growing up when my parents were mad , or when i wanted sometimes somthings and they say no , My mother used to give me the "silent treatment" and with my dad it would always end up between us as shoutings and all that , u kinda hate urself a lot but u just have to go through it and build up yourself to better know how to treat your future kids better than what u faced

Jiyong is becoming such a great dad!! Seung Jae is a really smart, sweet, and playful kid so this is the best way to discipline him. He catches on fast.

In the beginning I had thought he was one of the worst fathers on the show... oops. But he really improved so much. I think now he’s trying way harder to understand Seungjae and I feel like he missed that a lot earlier. When they first started coming on this show I actually felt like he was treating his son almost like a business partner instead of a young child. In my opinion he was kinda cold, complimentary to his warm son, but I think their father son relationship has become a lot stronger through this show. It’s so amazing to see Jiyong parenting skills developing more and more. They’re both growing and that’s one of the main reasons why I love this show wow

    • @joycef4245
      @joycef4245 6 ปีที่แล้ว +95

Yes, he did really well here. One of the most important thing about discipline is to stay consistent. Jiyong held his ground and didn't crack a smile the whole time and spoke to Seungjae seriously. So many parents on this show smile or laugh in the middle of 'disciplining' their kids so the kids don't take them seriously. Not that they're bad parents or anything, just not good a disciplining.

This guy is a natural at parenting. All the techniques he used to teach his child is the same as my mom’s. There was no yelling or hitting in his scolding. My mom was a pre school teacher in Korea with a degree in child psychology. She says one of the most important parts about teaching your child effectively is to always give them a moment to reflect on their actions by themselves when you are scolding them. The silent moment in the car was perfect in addition to the staring at that wall. I have so much respect for you Jiyong.

Ppl should not judge anykind of parenting method, every kid is different.. their nature, their environment and etc, hence the parenting method is also different for every kid.
And also theres no school for being a parent, they just try what the best and suit for the kid.. it's always trial and error, but u have to keep going to try.
It's so frustrating to see ppl judging other parent's parenting method....

The way Jiyong disciplined Seungjae is a sign of great parenting. He didnt shout at him, hit him, or threaten him. He calmly and sternly explained why Seungjae was in trouble, allowed his son to reflect on what he did wrong, gave an acceptable punishment and went through with it, and hugged and consoled the child when he learnt his lesson. No wonder Seungjae is growing up wonderfully. He has such an awesome dad!

My dad would just make us sit down on the couch opposite of him and we weren't allowed to get up unless we needed to use the bathroom. I really envy Seungjae. When I was young, my mother used to beat me without telling me what I did wrong and gave me the silent treatment for a few days. I tried to make up with my mother but she totally refused. Seung Jae’s father gave him a hug right after he scolded him and didn’t even punish him physically. My mother didn’t give me a hug after disciplining me . She also didn’t give me a chance to reflect on myself. That’s why I really resented my mother and father, who also didn’t care about me. I even considered suicide and always doubted whether I was their real child or not. Seungjae’s father is really amazing! He was angry but he didn’t shout at his son.

It's good that Jiyong appa explained to Seungjae what he did wrong before dishing out the punishment. Too often in the kindergarten I used to teach at, I saw teachers telling students that they are being disciplined but never the reason and the kid ends up as a repeat offender without knowing what he or she is being disciplined for.

I am really impressed with this program .
These guys are doing things for real.
Even though some events are scripted, like sending the kids to complete an errand..
But these situations are... Really realistic.....
Seungjae needed a punishment. And Jiyong , he gave it... Cause he was Seungjae's dad. And a dad is supposed to make his kid a good personality...

I've never been against spanking but this is literally a perfect example of how you can scold your child without getting physical and also gain respect. So long as you follow through with the punishment that's all they need. Wonderful parenting, it's very refreshing to watch someone explain, follow through with punishment, and care for the child afterwards.

jiyong was honestly made to be a parent. he has such high levels of patience and his way of scolding seungjae was so effective bc when seungjae started crying, it wasn’t bc he was scared of his dad but bc he was sorry. and that’s exactly what we want. scaring the child won’t do anything, all that will happen is the attachment with the parents gets worse. but giving them a time-out to reflect on their actions prepares them for later life when they have to make these decisions for themselves.
