I do hope you're correct, Jake - it has to be of concern that an object capable of inflicting damage seems to be so close to a rather narrow navigation channel
@Aerosnapper I'd assume that the obstruction will be most likely removed so that other boats (and not just the ferry ) won't hit it I've heard though this year the water levels have been very low
You are quite correct. You would have known the Wolfe Islander II - a side-loading car ferry, which had served the Island since about 1946. The Wolfe Islander III didn't come into service until the mid 1970s.
Hi The weather looks a little nasty today. I wonder if it sank on a journey across what methods are available for safe the passengers. Is the ship (boat) in dry dock?
Great question - but perhaps a false premise. Although sinking is a very remote possibility given the in-built safety features, evacuation equipment includes a near-instantly deployable raft, several smaller inflatable rafts and two rescue craft that can be quickly deployed. Operating in inshore, sheltered waters, assistance is always readily to hand.
It's beyond the pale that this video begins with the commentary "exaggerated comments on social media". Past videos which use hyperbole to describe the Wolfe Islander IV as "Majestic, Magnificent, A Queen, A Beauty to Behold," are galling to Islanders who continue to suffer the consequences of a vessel with numerous design deficiencies. A 1044 day delay in implementation, coupled with a long record of MTO operational mismanagement has exhausted the patience of those who depend on this service for all aspects of the lives.
I think the marvel is that this innovative vessel offers much greater capacity, is non-polluting, and has no climate warming emissions. All the other issues... delays and such have nothing to do with how progressive and clean this vessel is. Do you think everything went smoothly when we shifted to internal combustion engine vehicles from horses. Progress is messy no matter what.
We are into December, after all, so it's possible she might have been damaged after hitting an iceberg ... somewhere ! It has been documented that other ship have collided with icebergs before. I don't want to start rumors .... I'm just saying.

They brought the Wolfe Islander 3 out of retirement yesterday when the WI4 was docked for inspection of a minor breach from impact in shallow waters, in the hull from running off course during a bad wind storm.
Electric has nothing to do with the issue. Bad weather probably had the most to do with it. Would likely have happened with Islander 3, too. Fear of electric energy is alive and well.
@@yvonnehiemstra9494 it's likely that several circumstances contributed to this mishap. More reasonable people will have heard of the 'Swiss Cheese Model'.. The introduction of electric propulsion systems is very unlikely to be a primary contributor. Thanks for injecting a note of common sense.
@@yvonnehiemstra9494 The Swiss cheese model of accident causation is a model used in risk analysis and risk management. It likens human systems to multiple slices of Swiss cheese, which has randomly placed and sized holes in each slice, stacked side by side, in which the risk of a threat becoming a reality is mitigated by the differing layers and types of defenses which are "layered" behind each other. Therefore, in theory, lapses and weaknesses in one defense do not allow a risk to materialize (e.g. a hole in each slice in the stack aligning with holes in all other slices), since other defenses also exist (e.g. other slices of cheese), to prevent a single point of failure. The model was originally formally propounded by James T. Reason of the University of Manchester,[1] and has since gained widespread acceptance. It is sometimes called the "cumulative act effect". Applications include aviation safety, engineering, healthcare, emergency service organizations, and as the principle behind layered security, as used in computer security and defense in depth.

seems like shes ok and the damage is not too bad

What reasons would there be to not share what happened and what damage had occured?
Perhaps one very good reason would be that all the facts are still being gathered and making half-cocked assumptions would be unhelpful

Yes, and awaiting all the facts is a good way to approach the subject
I haven't been to Wolfe Island since the 1960's, so I doubt either of these vessels were around then.

definitely not back then that would have been the old Wolfe islander 2
When they talk Spin like that, it only increases speculation.

I heard a totally different story so I guess there's no shortage rumours to go around.
It's a sad fact that, in the absence of transparency, many stories surface - I'm sure you appreciate that not all are accurate or reliable
It sounds like a case of "Much ado about nothing"

Great clickbait title; the Wolfe Islander 3 was tired of being retired, hahaha!!

So much for electric, tried and true diesel! Better not get rid of the former ferry!😂
