I understand that the writers might wanted to challenge their relationship in this season so we can see how Nancy is challenging to accept Steve's change(because let's be honest the guy has shifted character). However, Jonathan had always been there for her. All three of them were students in the first 2 seasons who managed to express themselves and stop hiding behind a mask because of peer pressure. They all changed. Especially Steve. But Jonathan was the one who met Nancy in a difficult moment(Barbs death) and helped her accept her inner self and start her own journey. He was there for her, respected her by speaking truth to her about his impression of her, just like she did whe she called him freak. When Steve broke his camera was understandable but that was Jonathans way to hide, just like steve who was trying to be the alpha rich guy of a group of idiots and nancy her girlfriend and part of the popular kids. In that way, Jonathans help led nancy to help Steve in her way by breaking up with him.I understand that they are attracted to each other, but Nancy spent most of her time with Jonathan and grew with Jonathan. Jonathan had always been protective like Steve (but Steve didn't care about his people until Nancys break up when he realized that he actually cares about her /that was a big step).Jonathan had been the man of the house, a protective brother and a shy loner. In s4 was still a protective grown up but they just didn't handle it that good and he seemed weak the whole season. That gave space to stancy. I mean I get it but it is not necessary to happen. It is necessary to have a fight as normal couple but they lie to each other because the love each other and respect their future and career. In s5 they need to talk open and serious about their future in college and their motives and clear their misunderstandings.
I feel like people tend to prefer toxic relationships and promote them over appreciating healthy relationships. Stranger things is a series that will shape Our generation. Many teenagers learn from what they see in fiction, and if it has been shown that it is normal to destroy their couple to go back to their ex, even though the relationship Previous was not normal... I really hope that Jonathan and Nancy will stay together, because otherwise I find it pitiful as an example for the youth...

Jonathan wants to break up because he thinks he'll slow down Nancy. It's not as if he has fallen out of love. So if she does something stupid it would still break his heart.
Both Steve and Nancy made mistakes, they are just 15 16 at that time. Some people say Nan doesn't deserve Steve cuz she slept with Jo before brokeup with steve. Yes I agree. So I think in ss4 even she realizes that she loves Steve (we cant deny that fact, obviously smell the love in the air when they are together), she didn't do anything cross the line like hug or kiss or sleep with Steve. I have a question. How do males and females bond with each other? I don't see how men and women can bond (especially romantically) with each other. Men and women think very differently from each other. Women can build incredible friendships and become very close to each other in a way men can't bond, and science shows that women can bond very well with each other. Generally, women are even more social than men are. After something bad happens, a woman quickly rushes to talk to all of her female friends to get support, whereas a man can isolate himself and grief alone.

I hope that the Duffers will follow the logical's perspective (obvious outcome) rather than the path started in season 4: I love the character of Steve and he has a great redemption arc but I don't understand the desire to reestablish a messed up love triangle that had been resolved halfway through the first season (even when she was still dating him, Nancy clearly didn't give a damn about Steve). There has been pretty much zero chemistry between Nancy and Steve since the beginning of the series while the bonding of Jonathan and Nancy's relationship between season 1 and 3 was spectacular. If there's a couple in Stranger Things that seems obvious, it's this one: when we rewatch the series since season 1, it's very clear that a reunion between Steve and Nancy for the season ending would make no sense. In short, I hope that the writers don't go through with the awful idea of making Jonathan and Nancy break up just to give Steve a pseudo happy ending.

Because before Nancy and Steve reunited in s4, we saw Jonathan and Nancy have real issues. And that issues made them not to want see each other.
okay look i love Jonathan and Nancy. i've always loved their relationship but after season 4, i started shipping Steve and Nancy again. i think season 1-3 Nancy is meant for Jonathan and their relationship is great but season 4 Nancy has changed a lot and Jonathan has changed a lot and her and Steve just fit better together now. Plus let's not forget Steve's major character development.
