Allow me to restate that differently... Photo v-carve usually is carved out and then back filled with black paint. the excess removed and then lightly sanded to bring out the white... If you are going to use material that is black to begin with, invert your image in photo editing software you will end up with a much better output
roccovalotta9490, inverting the image is a great idea while using the dark background! Thanks for sharing brother!
Great video as always. Nice to see behind the scenes. I see you have plenty of coffee mugs. Time to put in another order. Anyone reading this, I’ve received the M&Ms each time, pens, and notes from Liberty. Also a pen light I adore and use all the time. And to top it off, a personalized note from the man himself. Thanks again and ready for my next order. Wish the app kept track of my past orders so I know what I don’t have yet and what I do have. Maybe an app upgrade as well as an upgrade to peanut M&Ms. 🤣
ifiwooddesigns, so glad to hear you liked this one and the personalized details on your order brother! Happy CNCing and thank you for the feedback on the app. I will have my development team look into this!
my best luck has been with .070 doc with phto vcarving using mdf to est but havent explored it much further. thats looking good from what i can see.
bubba6945, good call brother! That sounds like you have things set up well on your end.
Loud and clear
bubba6945, glad to hear it brother!
ive have found that best results are from larger material sizes. small sizes dont do as good but that size you are doing should be about right
bubba6945, good point brother! larger sizes do help!
May I ask your setting for this project please , I’ve just setup a 4040 pro so would they be the same for smaller unit , I’m a pure newcomer to this , but learn heaps from your channel…..
Dave, this one is a little tricky to walk you through over comments my friend. I recommend joining Kate and I for our live sessions we host every Wednesday evening at 8PM EST. We should be able to help walk you through it then brother!
Very interesting
Don, glad you enjoyed it brother!
I will be honest and admit I only skimmed the video.. You may want to invert it so the lighter tones are engraved out. Right now it looks like the darker colors are being engraved out.
roccovalotta9490, I see your perspective of it being a little on the dark side brother! You've definitely given me food for thought!
Woke up, 8.30 am in Melbourne Australia.😮
brucehammill44, happy to have you here my friend.
Its a cool time consuming process lower than newsprint resolution which works with some images.
The challenge is that a CNC device/software only can see the black of an image and ignore the white altogether.
Normal images your engraving the black, inverted images (negative images) your engraving the white by first making the white black.
The easiest way to choose if you need to invert the image first is 2 steps.
Step 1 - if you engrave your workpiece a single line, is that engraved line darker or lighter than the surface of the material. In this video its lighter (black surface with exposed after engrave light wood).
Step 2 - choose based on step 1 if you need a normal image or a negative (inverted) image.
If the engraving mark is lighter you want to engrave the white of the image so you need to invert the source image.
If the engraving mark is darker you want to engrave the black of the image so do not invert it.
3dtwerking324, wow thank you for sharing brother! I will have to give you method a try!
i wanna see that rotary when you get it installed i cant use it on my machine from 1F sad but hind sight is 20/20 uhg
bubba6945, a rotary will be a blast brother! I like what your thinking.
Very Cool!
Allsource-inc, glad you like this one brother!

Audio ok
billwallace1057, happy to hear it brother!
I still think photo carve software needs to get better, it still looks like dots and no matter how well you do this technique, photos never look great up close, I look at engravings of old photos looked amazing , like money art
John, fair points brother! Thanks for sharing your perspective!
Hello
