i ha a lesson off Michael Collins while staying in England. It was wonderful, such an inspiration to me. im only 17 but he is amazing, and im going to see him when he comes to melbourne australia
What kind of ligature and mouthpiece was he using? The ligature looked like a gold Charles Bay but, I could not read the front of the mouthpiece. Anyone? I love his sound! His bottom lip stays out a bit and it certainly, does not hinder his playing.
If your talking about the last tiny bit at the end. don't think negative about it you will most likely screw it up think positive and it will come out no problem. just practice it slowly with variations with the rhythm
@adam246811 haha yeh hes a great friend of mine. mateusz or math as everyone calls him has been at vcass since year 9 i came in year 7 lol. what pieces are you doing on clarinet?
@adam246811 i think i heard math mention that. um u have ur hands full lol. well for solo performance exam i did mozart 4th church sonata, bernstein sonata mvt 1, hindemith sonata 4th mvt, harvey's i got rhythm and weber concerto 1 mvt 1. all fun pieces but were not really a challenge. i did all of poulenc last year which has to be my favourite piece ever. I'm going to do at uni next year brahms, debussy and maybe weber 2 concerto
Something really weird just happened, I am performing Saint-Saens sonata in a couple of weeks, and just happen to look at this video, and he plays it too :D
@adam246811 yeh i love robert. he is amazing. his AT does help you even though it tends to feel very uncomfortable. haha thanks. yeh I've done 3 exams so far I've got 4 to go lol. are you in yr 12?
@adam246811 lol a bit late. he's been and gone. he did a massive amount of things here. hey came in mid may and did masterclasses performances all at anam i think
I was at a concert he played at in Finland. He's great at what he does. Unfortunately someone had to bring their small noisy children to the concert... They played Mozart's Clarinet concerto and Beethoven's 3rd symphony 'Eroica'. Otherwise it was great but there's something about his clarinet's sound that I don't like. The parts where he played very low sounded great though.
@adam246811 ok sure. um personally to me i dislike the arnold sonatina for some reason. it just sounds funny lol. don't ask me why. i just started learning the Paganini caprice no 24 for next year and am learning both the saint saens sonata and my teacher said i can start looking at the debussy premier rhapsody too (yay)
When it said Suffolk I was like oh my gosh I used to live in Suffolk but then I realised when the settlers came from Europe they stole European names and named random places in Virginia. lol...
Michael Collins" phrasing and tone are absolutely wondrous.

That is absolutely gorgeous. Wow. Amazing
Love this video. Thanks Michael. Reminds me of why I took up the clarinet in the first place and why I still love playing it so much.
Very enjoyable listening to your playing of these beautiful tracks.

Your sound is warm and touching to listen to. It is truly a lyrical sound. Is your ligature and Ishimori ? Jules Elias chamber clarinetist
Looks like a Charles Bay ligature
The first movement of Saint-Saen's Clarinet Sonata in E-flat Major.

which clarinet do you use?
I think is a Peter Eaton Clarinet.
He plays exclusively on Yamaha Clarinets. Looks like a CSG II with Hamilton keys
