yup! usually tht's wht i do. i have chord midi files tht i use if i can't think of an idea initially. a lot of the time having tht first chord is essential to creating the rest of the melodic part of an instrumental, especially in genre's like pluggnb where there are complex jazzy/bluesy chords. ALSO, i have something similar to perfect pitch where i can tell which notes would go well with others, and it's really useful when creating those chords and melodies, so just fck around w the chords until you hear something tht sounds exactly like what you want, then you can build up from there.
if u mean like how i did at the very start, i have 7th and 9th chords saved as midi that i open up. besides that, just copy and pasting in FL and switching thru different channel’s piano rolls (ctrl+K).
Usually, I just go browsing around on Reddit looking for any kind of unique drumkits. Or sometimes if I see a drumkit being used in a youtube video, and I really like the sounds, I look around wherever I can to find it. You can find good ones on: • Reddit • Beatstars (Reddit may have a crack 🤫) • Beat Tutorials (like this one)
ALT+R then press ENTER- usually i have the randomize setting set to velocities which is why it happened so fast, but if i wanted to randomize panning or pitch it’d take an extra couple seconds
i'm not sure if it showed up on the screen recording, but i opened a folder in FL where there are various minor and major chords, ranging from different intervals, so like 5ths and 7ths and shit like tht. i take one of those chords and use that as a foundation for the rest of the chord progression, which is then the foundation for the rest of the beat. using major or minor 7th, 9th, and 11th chords can really evolve the melodic part of any genre of music. THEY SOUND BEAUTIFUL!!
I think I just raised the volume all the way up on the Master Level since the stock presets are quiet for some reason. I think I messed around with the chorus and reverb settings too, so I’d check out those where it says EDIT.
I look thru plugins’ presets the first time I get them just to see what sounds better apart from everything else then make those FL presets. You don’t necessarily need to know music theory to make good music; I’m like a 2/10 when it comes to knowing music theory. Just experiment and play around with shit and that’ll help you find your sound and what you really fw.
the guitar that i used in this is from the Roland JV-1080 (rlly great VST with lots of great sounds). it's in the electronic piano (EP) patches, and it's called 021: Nylon EP.
They don't seem to be approaching this as a standalone instrumental, rather as a track for an artist to ride on. Because of that approach, you have to simplify to make space.
@@BSGCCollective I'd rather not argue with you, bc I do understand your perspective. However, some of my favorite instrumentals are simple on the drum side of things. I feel as though most of the focus of this video was on how quickly the beat was made. Do you produce?
