  • I feel like I've used this method for a while but it's so unconscious that I never actually realized until very recently. hope you can take some inspiration from this and help your nerves even if you don't do it exactly like this :D
    alternate title: the best nerve control method, as proven by my subjective experience (your mileage may vary)

    oh hey, i do this!! i feel like this pairs very well with playing less and retrying less, as well. if you only play a map once every day, rather than like, 10 times a day, then its easier to just get that satisfying growth and get out. v. cool.

  • @Alierii

    I've realized this as well. I am pretty much an offline player so I don't care about pp, but I used to have that pressure of the 1st case anyway.
    Now I just act impressed as if the section I already played was enough to satisfy me, almost like if that was the entire map and now I was just playing it again after SSing. That way I justify my nerves but I feel less pressured to keep doing it well and I stop thinking about it.
    Idk if that makes sense or if my English was good enough to express it but it works for me 👍

  • @Edamori

    I do something similar, but instead I counter those thoughts with the idea that "no, this isn't a rare run and I'm not performing above average, the performance I just did is proof I can do it again, and it's ok to fail at this point - success will come without fail at the end of the day." This mindset got me through Dark Souls, it got me though Getting Over It and Jump King, and it really helps with getting through osu maps. Excellent video though, pretty much exactly the same process that I use. Ty DigitalHypno!

    I've always done this and this is what has been holding me back. I wouldn't recommend this at all...
    I always end up being satisfied with the score I've been doing so far and that does anything but help me finish the map with a good score
    The matter is I always get fulfilled and so unconsciously I don't "care" about the score anymore as much as I sometimes hard choke the rest because of lack of ambition and lack of that feeling of wanting the score so bad

    One thing I tried was from an old vaxei interview about how he plays. He said that when he's doing well on a map and any possible thoughts may come up he only starts full focusing on the circles on the screen. Almost immediately after I ended up getting my top play at the time and my mentality was just repeating "circles, circles, circles" while focusing on the map. Kinda weird but it worked. I'll be trying this out next though. (I could've messed up some details on the vaxei stuff, but that's what I remember.)

    Tbh sightread fcing is something so hard but what i do is play a map couple of times maybe create some practice difficulties then if i can fc those part individually i consider myself i got the score. So i am already satisfied all that left is putting those in one run and i can eventually get it.

    I usually end up doing worse when I think "think is good, I'm satisfied already"

    Whoah this absolutely doesn't work for me. I guess it's really subjective. This method is also really inversatile since you can only use this is specific scenarios where you haven't got a score close to FC'ing. My go to method right now is holding breath or flexing stomach ~ which has always worked for me.

  • @adumbledoor394
    @adumbledoor394 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    My two cents on nerve control and mindset (both go hand in hand IMO):
    Haven't watched the video, but the best nerve control method IMO is to tell yourself that you don't care, and after a while, you won't get nervous anymore. I am not kidding; this method was recommended by a psychology honor student and worked for me in many games, including osu. I combine this with the mindset that I prioritize long-term improvement over short-term scores that don't matter, which worked wonders for me.

    • @dexorne9753
      @dexorne9753 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Random thought; wouldn't it be able to make it so you actually don't care to the point of not improving as much, since you don't care and thus don't feel a need or motivation to grind skill?

    • @adumbledoor394
      @adumbledoor394 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dexorne9753 Well, my comment might lack a bit of detail on my actual mindset. I don't tell myself that I generally don't care about anything in this game; rather, I don't care about a single score. Instead, I care about long-term improvement. So, let's say I play a map and almost FC it; I could retry it several times and eventually get the "lucky" run for the FC, or I can accept that I am not good enough, try to understand why I messed up and how I can improve to do better next time.
      I care about scores I can recreate easily under any circumstance because those represent my actual skill. For example, a lucky score that I can't recreate the next day is worth nothing to me since I clearly lack something to do it again and again.
      This mindset motivates me to focus purely on improvement, and I don't get sidetracked by a number (pp or rank) that doesn't mean anything (to me, at least).

    I had nerves, played more long maps, and retry after chokes, and yeah is just kinda gone forever, I still choke but not to the point of shitmissing everything because of nerves
    And I do feel like that, when I start to think like "omg this is good score" I start to choke and shit miss everything too
    Now I my usual reaction is just "meh" and, I either FC the map or choke but with less miss

  • @zluka7951
    @zluka7951 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    actually i think this is just one of the consequences of stop carrying too much about your scores and measure your improvement in them, and instead focusing on the game process NOT because you need to do this to control nerves, but because the score means almost nothing for you
    also i think retrying after miss is one of the biggest sign that you carry exactly about the score.
    Moreover, if you are getting used to play a map till the end only when you are fcing it (and nerving), because of this you may feel not comfortable when you just playing the map till the end even if you already have misses and don't really care about the score. On my opinion this is the reason why some sort of players literally can't play long maps.
