Most people keep them in a safe or filing cabinet really quick to find because it's labeled with home papers. It's quite normal from what I've encountered dealing with folks
Everyone in these stories has all documentation easily at hand and willingly shows it to anyone who challenges them. The police review the deeds and other papers even though they have no training to analyse such. Just accept that you will run into this idiocy again and again.
And I would like to know In what country police actually show and do something for squatters, usually they can do anything and police won't do a thing...
The closest thing to the title story i've heard about in my local area, is when an old man knocked on the front door to a house, confused, the family who lived there was friendly and talked with him, turned out he grew up there and his mother had lived in the house untill she died, which had been many years ago, after which they had bought it, but he had become dement in his old age and was thinking "i'll visit mom", his children was called and they made sure he was picked up and cared for and kept under surveillance for his own safety, but think about it, you're thinking "i'll visit my parent(s)" only to find someone else living in the house and then finding out your parent(s) had died years ago, you had just forgotten, that's one of my fears when it comes to myself and others getting old, forgetting myself and/or family.

Last: OP is an adult. She has 2 kids. She needs to learn to say NO! very firmly. And convince dad she is serious.
Obviously this Karen lady hadn't been talking to her mother, who had to sell the house to go to a rest home.
I can confirm that customers don’t read closed signs
