I'm from Ontario and currently on holidays in Europe. Was in Germany last week and German drivers are so much better and disciplined than drivers in Ontario. Ontario is a free for all with passing on the right and left lane bandits. It was so enjoyable to drive in Germany. I won't tell you how fast I was driving but would be charged and car impounded on the spot in Ontario by the OPP, however, I will tell you how safe I felt nobody was going to pull out in front of me as I cruised in an Audi A6.
Talk about Basics on the highway... So many people have no idea that with cruise control on you can still use your gas pedal to speed up and get the pass done! It won't shut your cruise off like the brake will!
As a former police officer, I agree drivers do not seem to know the rules of the road anymore, however, it's not the job of the police to educate drivers. Driving is a privilege, not a right, and the onus is on the driver to know the rules of the road
For the price of the ID Buzz, it should have more range than it does. It looks like a perfect road-tripping vehicle, except for the fact that you'll have to stop to recharge frequently. No thanks.
Another good Episode guys. On lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control, I find it depends on what company and car. I have rented cars and turned both off. On my 2021 KIA Seltos SX, I LOVE both of these! When I am in my Corvette, I miss both of these! I find KIA's lane keep assist is not intrusive and Love the adaptive cruise control and use both all the time. Engine Stop / Start, oh yeah, that was turned off the 1st Day.
One time I was signalling right turn at a 4 way stop in a neighborhood. Families park their cars before the stop signs. I was the 4th car. While I was waiting for my turn, the car behind me, also signalling right turn, went to the parking lane, which was empty, to stare at me, smile, & block me from making a right turn, so he could go first.
Regarding basic traffic rules reminders, here in the Sarasota County, Florida, Police post those on Facebook, like "Left lane is for passing", or priorities in roundabouts (yes, we have them here, and they seem to multiply rapidly).
The facial expression on your husband’s face as you are reading the “left lane” comment spoke volumes! His frustration and yours are unfortunately felt by likely hundreds if not thousands of BC highway drivers per week if not just per day. Thank you so much for using my “left lane awareness” comment this week! I appreciate you both. Have a great weekend :)
In general, ads are needed for roundabouts, bus only lanes, & pedestrians lights. The countdown timer is for people who have already begun crossing the street when the walking signal is on.
We have the same problem regarding left lane etiquette here in the US, not to mention the not knowing the rules of the road. In my humble opinion, we’ve created a lousy generation of drivers with all the driver assist technology in vehicles nowadays. While most of is good and well intended, it has also led some to have the attitude of “Well, I don’t to learn how to do this or that because my car does it” or “I don’t have to look at my mirrors, my car beeps”. People don’t know how to parallel park or backup anymore. One of my boys, a 17 year old and brand new driver, just learned how to drive a stick shift. I told him to be proud of himself. He drives an older vehicle so he already has more driving skills than 80% of folks out there.
I think what might help in expanding the EV market would be if someone put out an affordable two passenger subcompact lift-back (hatchback) , akin to the Honda CRX (especially first generation) or that hybrid thing from 2000 (ZE1 Insight). So basically, a a cheap 2-door subcompact car with loads of stowage (and storage), easy to park and a small (lighter/cheaper) battery. When and if they mastered that… then I’d consider switching over. And maybe Andrea is right… considering to make it sub or subcompact two door pickup. If you had the proper base, you could make it into anything. Think of what Chrysler did with their K-car platform; a coupe, an estate car, a saloon (4-door sedan), a convertible… their legendary Minivan… even an ‘Executive’ limousine (24”stretch). They might have been crappy cars (inevitably), but … ‘well done Chrysler!’ for pulling it off. Maybe that same formula should be used again for a manufacturer’s EV lineup. Thanks for the video.
7:19 Agreed, “look at me I’m driving something goofy looking.” And the corollary : look at me, I’m driving a big four-door pick up “truck” with a 6 foot bed, all by myself, no cargo, but look at me. I’m driving a big truck.
My last car had adaptive cruise control. Myford does not. BOYlll do I miss it. I’m always having to adjust my speed because of traffic or other driver😂s. With the adaptive. Cruise it does it for me and saves my nerves.
I think some drivers don't give a bleep who is at the roundabout or 4 way stop first. I was at the roundabout 1st, yet the driver speeds up to go first. If I wasn't paying attention he would have crashed into my passenger side. Bus lanes: Myself & other people have been waiting 10 minutes to go through the traffic light. Some drivers will actually go into the bus lane to force their way to cut in line. Personally, I just let them be. Road rage is not worth it.
I had to honk a pedestrian from walking into the roundabout & into cars during rush hour. She was so focused on staring at her phone she was walking diagonally on the street instead of making use of the pedestrian lines.
I think the gripe your viewer had on the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is the Proactive Driving Assist ("PDA"), which has 2 components, brake assist and steering assist. Specifically, the brake assist will automatically apply the brakes if it detects a curve in the road up ahead or if the vehicle in front (even if very far away) starts to slow down, and is separate from the actual pre-collision protection emergency braking system. I find it to be extremely annoying and intrusive as it brakes way too hard and way too early for pretty much every driving situation. Luckily, you can turn this function off in the dashboard by turning off the the "PDA" system.
Good to see you promote 'Basics' for driving and using tips. But how about enforcement? Especially the left-lane hoggers. My understanding is that it is against the law to use the left lane unless passing. Tips are great but enforcement would be beneficial all round. I ask myself how driving schools get their licences when they are not instructing as per the law!
About the car campnig, last yrs. Santa Fe had a perfectly flat cargo area for sleeping. Who wants to put a tent up on a roof while at a rest stop to sleep? Btw..I heard that Ford is going full-blown hybrid and ditching EVs.
ID Buzz is really cool... but holy cow that price. Kia K4 Hatch looks really cool. Looking forward to that one, though it releases later than the normal K4
Driving in the US has been horrrrriiiibllle!! In Pennsylvania there is to be a left lane violation but not sure if it enforced. But otherwise driving is terrible too! Where is everyone in such a hurry to be? Crazy when they go so fast but you get to the stop light at the same time.
I have a 2016 base model rx350, and I use it in S mode on the shifter almost 100% of the time - no paddle shifters on this model. I do find the 8 speed transmission hesitant and almost jerky sometimes, so use the S mode instead. It's more or less automatic, but when on the highway, I can downshift easily to a lower gear when I want to, not when the car wants to. Also, it's handy for going down hills and using the engine for braking. So it's not totally automatic in some respects. I wish it was fully manual like I gather the paddle shifters are, but it isn't.
Absolutely agree with Zack on the Cybertruck. It's like the Hummer H2 15-20 years ago (or even the new Hummer EV) - looks cool for a few months then the fad passes.
I was on a road trip. It took 2 days to get to the destination. The whole trip, I had to convince a friend the left lane was for passing, not for hogging the lane. Her logic for cruising in the left lane, when it was her turn to drive, is because there was no one to pass even though the highway has signs saying "left lane for passing." 🤦♂ I lost interest after that. She stopped arguing after she got a speeding ticket.
I was going to jump from GM to Ford to get the Maverick but Ford knows they have a winner on their hands so they charge crazy interest rants. 9% where I am. That high interest rate made the payments higher then more expensive SUV’s from other manufacturers
I drive a 2021 cx-30 turbo and I love it. It’s so great my sister bought the same in a different colour. Do you need the turbo? No. Is it nice to have? That’s a big yes. All that power whenever you want it. Makes the vehicle feel more premium. It’s a lovely car in either form.
I think it's related to the Proactive Driving Assist for Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 or Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 when slows down the vehicle. That could be turned off. Some love it, some hate it.
Great show and info, as ever, A and Z. Interesting VW discussion around 21:00 but somehow the poor VW/Audi reliability factor (worse than oft mentioned Volvo at JD Power) was left on the editing room floor.
There are a lot of people who shouldn't be driving, especially old people grandpa/grandma. The speed limit on the highway is 100, not 40. If you can't drive, take a bus. Also, people have no commom curtesy at I get cut off all the time. The worst is that people realize that the last min, this is my turn and take forever to turn so you rended. Honestly, I feel people do crap on purpose.
I wouldn't buy a turbo unless i had no other choice, which we won''t soon because of emissions. Premium fuel for most turbos and it stresses the engine compared to an N/A. I just saw a cybertruck and its the most impractical, showy truck i've ever seen. Get a classic truck if you need one, Ram, Ford or GMC. Toyota even.
K4 (Kia) - oh I am very interested in that one too. I have a hunch the 1.6T with a traditional 8-speed will be the gem model (lost performance over the dual clutch but I think people find them easier to live with); the other is the I think very nicely done dual-spoke steering wheel base model - but I wonder it the 2.0L iVT is going to be over-taxed - certainly they must need to tweak something in that powertrain to make it have enough gruff? CYBER TRUCK - oh I would be "oh look at me - I am so important I only require two-spokes on my steering wheel".
Cybertruck is for people that want to drive a hotwheels but we'll see how their owners live with it. I'm noticing more than a few influencers getting them and then selling them off later. They used to get more than they paid for them last year but I think that's died down.
ID Buzz will probably be as successful as the Beetle, and the PT cruiser, HHR, etc. It's the 21st century, consumers want modern style, high tech digital vehicles; and especially factoring in 60-80k for the mediocre specs (short range, software developed by Cariad found in the troubled ID3 & 4) Short term hype similar to Cybertruck, mid & long term regret.
it's not like companies don't want to make smaller EV truck, ford, gm, tesla... it's just bigger truck has higher margin when you make it profitable. smaller ones will come naturally
I noticed a pattern with Tesla’s products. They first come out with a product that Elon wants to make, and then they make scaled back version of that product that will actually sell. Model S vs 3, and Model X vs Y. I predict that they might do the same with the cyber truck.
I already agree with you about the Cyber truck. It's so ridiculous, see them all over actually and have no idea why anyone would want one. I would love to meet someone who did buy one, so I could pick their brain. To me it's just an I over priced monstrocity on the outside and a boring eyesore in the interior.
I'm surprised they allow parking on both sides of the street. The should have moved ahead or back a few car lengths from the car parked on the other side of the street to give more passing room / safety.
8:59 regarding Ford deemphasizing the big EV, this from WSJ yesterday: “Instead of offering the larger electric SUV, Ford said it would offer hybrid, gas-electric versions in the future as well as focus on smaller EVs.”
Best car video on TH-cam! I believe you’ve mentioned before you have a CX-5 so wondering if it’s a Turbo? You just said to get a CX-30 without a Turbo, but how do you feel about the CX-5 & CX-50. Turbo or Non Turbo?
@@andreaspencer9813 I am reminded of a satisfying aspect of my PHEV. What is turbo lag? I’m 228 lbs ft ahead instantiously, I mean NOW, when I put my foot down.
Absolutely agree with Andrea on the cyber truck. They should have made a compact or midsize EV truck and would have killed it long term. Cyber truck is a fad.
@@billurban1581 . Yes, that's not contradictory to what I said. From the Pennsylvania DOT: Approach the Yield Line, look to the left and check for approaching traffic within the roundabout. CIRCULATING TRAFFIC HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY. Enter the roundabout when there is a safe gap in traffic. If necessary, stop at the Yield Line until there is a safe gap in traffic. I am in Ontario, similar rules. The guy was mad because I entered slightly after him on the other side of the roundabout
I had the opportunity to drive the new Civic Hybrid Touring model and here’s my opinion… it looks better, it’s quieter, and the Google Auto multimedia system is MUCH better. But, the steering is awful. And nobody is talking about it. They had very nice steering before and it’s super disconnected and delayed now. Other minor gripes… they did away with the homelink buttons on the mirror and didn’t add rear seat vents or USB ports.
It requires a special kind of stupid to think everyone who needs a pick up needs it for their day job. Cybertruck would be a perfect truck for my daily use, replacing the SUV.
I agree Andrea about Tesla building a small pu they would have sold every one. Cybertruck design is not for everyone, personally I like it, as its very different and I applaud them being bold enough to build it.
Once Tesla drops the foundation package and be able to sell the cybertruck around $70-80k, it’s going to be crazy sales number. It’s already the most sold $100k vehicle in US just a few months into the market,
I hope you are right however with Tesla removing the RWD variant from the US order page it has people worried that they may drop that version altogether. If so, I have my doubts we will ever see a CT for under 100K in Canada. For that price I'm buying a Rivian R1T every time.
@@dcb113 I just think it would be nice if it was priced closer to the suggested price at launch. The amount of cancellations due to price and range misinformation is staggering. I definitely don't want one and would steer clear of a brand new model in its first year, especially a Tesla. The CT has had its fair share of issues already. But, for those that love it, and would like one, it's a shame they couldn't align the pricing closer to when it was launched. Which, would make it more accessible for those interested. When the Model X starts at 115k CDN, I highly doubt the Cybertruck will fall under that pricing.
Over 1.5 million reservations for the Cybertruck clearly alot of people love it! It is so cool looking, unlike so many of the same old same old options today.
You talk about roundabouts! That’s nothing compared to a new diverging diamond interchange at the QEW and Glendale Ave in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. That combined with a ridiculous roundabout a couple hundred metres down the round. I’m 74 years old and I have to admit that I do not like it one bit. I would much rather see the old Cloverleaf interchanges. I do know how this works but other people don’t, and the addition of crosswalks in the middle of these diverging diamonds which are controlled by traffic lights, add another level of confusion to the area. We once we had only one traffic light on each side of the overpass. There are now three if I recall. I avoid the area like the plague! There are usually several multi vehicle accidents there a week. You have offramp and on-ramp going to the QEW and the 405 Highway. You have a community college and a huge Niagara Outlet mall in the area along with a service center and several high-rise hotels at the end of the roundabout. Absolute mass confusion on a busy weekend. And at night time forget about it. If you don’t know where you’re going, you might as well go find a different way to get to your destination, rather than travelling in that area. Poor lighting and poor signage. Just infuriates me the so-called experts that come up with these things. I’ll repeat, just give me a good old fashion Cloverleaf interchange.
Everything I'm seeing on TH-cam says the same thing. Some good engineering in the Cybertruck, but horrible execution. Andrea's idea of a model 3 priced Ranger/Maverick EV Pickup is spot on. Only one problem. Until there's a new battery chemistry that allows towing heavy items (boats, trailers, etc) that doesn't destroy your range I think hybrid or plug in hybrid pickups will probably be the way to go. Having a CEO that seems to be Looney Tunes like Musk isn't helping.
I'm from Ontario and currently on holidays in Europe. Was in Germany last week and German drivers are so much better and disciplined than drivers in Ontario. I am really worried about the new 4runner Canadian pricing. Toyota Canada is really gouging on pricing lately with the Tacoma's and Land Cruiser.
Maybe you are too young but to me, CyberTruck is the modern day Edsel
I already agree with you about the Cyber truck. It's so ridiculous, see them all over actually and have no idea why anyone would want one. I would love to meet someone who did buy one, so I could pick their brain. To me it's just an I over priced monstrocity on the outside and a boring eyesore in the interior.
Guys the green and white truck pass very close to your vehicle please be careful. Thank You l like the content and have a wonderful day.
I'm surprised they allow parking on both sides of the street. The should have moved ahead or back a few car lengths from the car parked on the other side of the street to give more passing room / safety.
I already think that about people driving Cyber trucks. LOL!!!
I finally recently saw some Cybertrucks on the road. If DeLorean was still in business, this would be their truck version.
8:59 regarding Ford deemphasizing the big EV, this from WSJ yesterday: “Instead of offering the larger electric SUV, Ford said it would offer hybrid, gas-electric versions in the future as well as focus on smaller EVs.”
Zach giving the evil eyes on the garbage truck going by.😂
You can turn it off the auto braking. I believe it's called PBA. I don that in the winter.
Going to? After seeing a few cybertrucks on the road, I already think “why would anyone buy that POS?”
Maybe instead of True Religion, the Cyber Truck is like Ed Hardy shirts.
That too
Best car video on TH-cam! I believe you’ve mentioned before you have a CX-5 so wondering if it’s a Turbo? You just said to get a CX-30 without a Turbo, but how do you feel about the CX-5 & CX-50. Turbo or Non Turbo?
We like them both with the non-turbo as well.
@@andreaspencer9813 I am reminded of a satisfying aspect of my PHEV. What is turbo lag? I’m 228 lbs ft ahead instantiously, I mean NOW, when I put my foot down.
You fail a driving test in Ontario if you don’t return to the right lane
No Zach don’t get a cheap one get the most expensive one ! Get the super impressive mega beast Ford Maverick! 😂
Parking brake on. Pro Tip! Haaaaa
sure, like hari crishna!
Absolutely agree with Andrea on the cyber truck. They should have made a compact or midsize EV truck and would have killed it long term. Cyber truck is a fad.
Cyberposers!
Left to pass, then move over and don't be an ass 😊
in sweaters already?! O'Canada...
Isn't it still summer???
The thing is, every n/a 2.5 L Mazda engine has that darn cylinder deactivation.
I am not anti EV at all but the cyber truck is Cyber Yuck! lol … Its not even a truck!
Doesn't matter what I drive, I still look goofy.
I’ll never part with my CyberJeans.
You win, best comment!
Cyber Truck is like True Religion Jeans…. Ah ha ha ha!!!!!
0:28 the main problem is, the IS 500 is not a real F, like the last one.
Had a guy chase me down for using a roundabout like a roundabout and not a 4 way stop.
In Pennsylvania, those in the roundabout keep moving, those approaching the roundabout yield.
@@billurban1581 . Yes, that's not contradictory to what I said.
From the Pennsylvania DOT:
Approach the Yield Line, look to the left
and check for approaching traffic within the roundabout.
City folks think the woods are unsafe , country folk know that the city"s are unsafe .
What is the buzz on the VW ID buzz
last year herding goats in a far and distant land this year driving taxi in canada
$77k for a ID Buzz😳
No thanks I’ll keep my 04 Sienna.
Correct, to want and own a Cybertruck either requires a religious conviction or a mental capacity problem.
Or you like something far out. There's tonnes of unreasonable and impractical fugly cars on the road.
Bingo. Or just plain bad taste.
It requires a special kind of stupid to think everyone who needs a pick up needs it for their day job. Cybertruck would be a perfect truck for my daily use, replacing the SUV.
Cybertruck owners are this generation’s Hummer drivers
as a 71 year old poor driver my wife insisted on all the safety tech
Is a new toyota corolla pickup can when trying it
I agree Andrea about Tesla building a small pu they would have sold every one. Cybertruck design is not for everyone, personally I like it, as its very different and I applaud them being bold enough to build it.
Indiana you block left lane hold up traffic you can get a ticket and the first ticket was given to a woman
I was shocked when the woman passed me while putting on her make up, so shocked I dropped my phone into my coffee.
like 25 !
@@erikpechmann879 Why do you hope he's right? You want one?
We need affordable EVs in Canada. 😭😭😭
