    Reading about how to do this, And seeing it done are two entirely different things. As with all of your videos you remove the mystery of how things are done. I can't thank you enough for the videos like this that you do...Thank you so very much.❤❤❤❤❤

    Planking is often the step that discourages new modelers from persisting in this wonderful hobby. Your method is simple, efficient and professional, and we can see how useful it is to fill in the gaps between the bulkheads.

      ive come to be able to plank thru trial and error. what i havent been able to learn is how to be able to accurately make the yards and booms with their curved tapers either free hand or with a lathe and either by whole length or by halves or pieces

      It really comes with practice. My first models - I could tear off the same plank three times before I finally got it correctly shaped and glued...

      @@cajunrandy2143 Olha can certainly advise you with yards and booms. I often watch his video series on Le CERF which is extraordinary and which gives us ideas on what I have to make and build. For the planking of HMS SPEEDY, I appreciate the fact that there is no pointy ending plank, a mistake most other modelers on TH-cam make. It's a detail that can be seen and that makes the difference between amateur and professional.

    Excellent video, as always. I've had an interest in ship modeling like this since I was in my teens. My dad was a sailing enthusiast and loved the workings of sailing boats and ships. He built his own models for a time (until blindness stopped him). He would have adored your videos as much as I do.

    Beautiful planking. Getting the tapering in right is critical. Using the foam as a cradle is genius.
    I know it's not suitably frugal, but a set of planking screw clamps are handy for not having to rely on hammering nails.

    Olha, beautiful work as always. I noticed full length planks along the hull which would not be scale. Will you cut in simulated blank butt joints, or do you think that at this scale it would clutter the lines? Thanks, Angus.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov

      This model has copper plates - so it simply will not be visible. But yes, I prefer to glue long planks and simulate butt joints...

    Calculations are fine, but It's impossible to mantein the accuracy of initial calculations or, indeed, posterior recalculations. There is some visual method to checking you are right in planking?

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  ปีที่แล้ว

      The calculation is always approximate. I only knew for sure that there would be 14 strakes, and the rest was suggested by the wood...
