Not only the runs being precise, but the agility and flipping from one register to another at any moment. The breath control, support, and the way she shifts her mouth shapes for different vowels is insane. She also does so many trills that they are difficult to even notice. She also uses different textures in different registers.
The melismas, riffs, transitions, and breath control in this song are INSANEEE! Especially in the chorus when she sings “you will always be..” the amount of vocal agility she uses in that single phrase is beyond compare and all of this makes this one of her hardest vocally challenging songs. And the fact that she barely breathes in between her phrases yet is able to stay in pitch and hit every note accurately is crazyy. Many ppl wouldnt expect this, but these types of songs with extreme amounts of vocal agility yet subtle at times are harder than ur full on powerful belting ballad because this believe it or not requires much more breath control and stamina to execute, and mariah is a MASTER at implementing riffs and inflections into her songs u dont notice unless u take it apart to analyze or if u got a good ear for these things. Its also amazing because she did it in a way that resembles a 60s ballad to feel like an instant classic. One of my fave songs by her, truly underrated.❤️❤️
Mariah Carey plays so much with her voice which makes it tough for others to sing it. She sings this song with so much breathiness. She changes from a soft and breathy voice with so much falsetto and she does in purposefully. It fits with her song title, "Butterfly". Her vocals is INSANE!!! I am the Biggest MC Fan ever. Awesome reaction though.
It’s amazing how quick Mariah can recover from a missed note. Towards the end she tried to go higher with the “you” but her voice cracked. Then right after she successfully executed the “you” higher note
It’s almost unbelievable that this is live. The runs, the belt, the head voice . She changes so quickly and is everywhere at once and is such a hard vocal performance. She’s simply incredible.
Beautifull singing, those transitions OMG incredible voice ❤ Did Someone notice that There's always more than 3 notes on the "You" parts? Outstanding agility
For other out there, especially those blessed with high voice, this song is easy, BUT once you follow MC's technique on this song (like MC's like "this song should only be sung the way it is recorded in the studio") you cannot surpass this, I promise.. even her during her Daydream Tour, she could hardly sing it live perfectly because it's too hard to replicate the studio vocal she made..
❤🎉 she is so phenomenal, always imitated never dupliacted.
Her runs are so precise. This song is velvety to our ears but this is very difficult to execute. Mariah is really a master of melisma. 👏🏼

Nobody really pays attention to if but the way she sings “through” in “our time is through” is so subtle yet so good. Her tone is a gift from god
She sings like a beautiful nightingale…
So much happening in this phrase. From ‘our’ to ‘through’ is just wow. Skills and talent, baby! 👏🏼
@@elfuegohumanothat whole line is fire. Even the breathy “is” her placement is always fucking fire and her tone. Omg, blessed with a TONE
@@elfuegohumano Yeah her melismatic technique is on point
She is one in a billion !!!! Fantastic vocalist technique, amazing songwriter and producer ❤🎼🎼🤩🤩🔥👸🏼
I remember 1st time hearing This song, and it's uncanny ability to transport one back to those days of Doo Woop and 60s Motown-esque sounds😍😍🥰.
The last verse on this song is one of the most purely blissful vocal runs I've ever heard. Always been enamored with it.
This is one of those songs that sounds better live than the recorded version. ❤
Definitely

The song dedicated to my 27 year old daughter. Thank you, we still love it.
love this song
I cannot even lipsync this song without sneakingly breathing
Queen Mariah
My favorite song and this song for me, is one of her hardest songs to sing.
The definition of vocal suicide for anyone attempting this song. I always feel out of breath by the end of it just listening to it.

This song is just vocal suicide! Whoever says they can sing this song, just STOP! 🙄😏 #ONLYMARIAH
