Thanks for adding this link. It would be good if the video included the actualll name of the tool. Maybe a caption or something. My apologies if you added it at the end. Thank you
Thank you for showing the tool. That is just what happened and I'm glad you used it even though in your case you didn't need to. Many thumbs up to you!!!
I need that tool at 0:34 because I broke my riser super low. I am glad the setup looks easily fixable for these types of accidents. Because the person that last fixed my sprinklers showed me what to do but I felt bad for not paying attention and breaking a head again.
To be honest, I almost skipped watching this one, but I’m glad I didn’t. I am continually amazed at how you know how to fix just about anything and you are confident when you are doing it too.
You are WAY too kind Jo Lynne! Thank you! I had to mention you again in tomorrows video.... something about bird brains. I can't remember if I was referencing myself or the chickens though ;)
This or people sometimes heat a piece of metal the diameter of the hole (like a knife) and use a pair of pliers. I have one that the extractor just won’t work on.
Any advice when the easy out doesn't work? I have a broken riser in an old sprinkler pipe, a cannot get it out with the easy out. I tried hammering the easy out in so it cuts in deep, deep enough that I have to use cheater bars on either side of the handle to turn it. It just ends up scraping the inside of the nipple instead of turning it.
Sorry for the late reply- I would probably cut the PVC "T" out and install a new one. I will be doing that today or tomorrow. Sorry the easy out didn't work for you! Make sure when you install new risers you only finger tighten them...
I noticed this was in front of your home..i have same problem...do i need to shut of water from main line in front where sidewalk(city) is..or as long as my valve is off i
I went to Home Depot to get this tool, but they only sell a whole set with other tools. I bought it anyway, but it didn’t work. The way I got it out was to cut the broken piece with a cutter, I did 4 vertical cuts, I was careful not to cut too much, only the thickness of the inner broken pipe, then used a thin flat screwdriver to push out the broken pieces, the first one was the hardest one, the rest just came off easily. Then I just turned on the water a bit to push out all fallen debris and installed my new piece. It doesn’t leak, so it worked fine. Just in case someone else didn’t have luck with the magic tool.
I had one break like that too. I bought the same set at home depot and the tool just shredded the broken piece instead of catching and allowing me to unscrew it. LOL, glad I'm not the only one. Going to try your trick before I go and cut the line and replace the whole T-joint.
If the riser is broken off at the top of the pvc T then the tool will bottom out and not get enough bite to unscrew. If they made an extractor that was much shorter to avoid buttoming out. Otherwise I would have to cut the extractor tool short so it doesn't bottom out.

Great video. Thank you. I would have enjoyed a continuation when you installed the new 6 inch riser.
Perfect! This is exactly what I needed. Thanks for posting.
Man what a treat. A real dream tool
Chris Preston you’re such a dork! Hahaha this baby is priceless! I mean- it has a price, but it’s undervalued for sure!

Great question. For this repair as long as the sprinklers are not on you’re fine
@@PilotJon great ty..was wondering that myself
Butter knife works too. But didn’t know they made a tool. I’m a landscaper so I think I’m gonna go get the tool you had in the video.
The tool sure makes it easy!
I actually kind of really enjoyed the music
Of course the video was great too!
Thank you!
Work like a charm. Easy !
Glad it helped

Bummer it didnt work for you! _It must have been super tight

It worked for me the last time but its stripped this time.. thanks for the advice! Gonna try this too
What is the tool called?
Sorry for the late reply, its often called an easy out.
This tool is awesome!
Yes it is! Thanks for watching
Omg Thank You Alot...
Thank you very much 😖.
You're welcome 😊 glad it helped!
Should the riser not be glued/cemented to the sprinkler pipe. I know the head should be glued to the riser but what about where riser meets pipe?
neither should be glued
Helpful video, except you didn't include a link for how to purchase the removal tool or the actual product name.
Great point! Thank you! I will do that now and pin the comment.
@@PilotJon I found it on Lowe's website - Orbit Extractor Tool (www.lowes.com/pd/Orbit-Riser-Extractor/3420774) and your process works - thx!
I just broke a riser at our rental house, thanks!
Oh bummer! Glad it helped! hope you subscribed ;)
When I turned the extractor to the left the riser broke. I think maybe it was glued on. I don’t know how to get the broken piece out.
Teflon tape to the threaded end of the riser is helpful for easy removal.
I have the tool and it's broken at the top of the pvc but the tool is shearing the broken riser
Sounds like you need to apply more pressure on the tool so it can bite the broken riser
Just bought my tool and it keeps slipping! Ugh
Good timing.
If the riser is broken off at the top of the pvc T then the tool will bottom out and not get enough bite to unscrew. If they made an extractor that was much shorter to avoid buttoming out. Otherwise I would have to cut the extractor tool short so it doesn't bottom out.
A sharp knife will work also. It slices enough into the plastic as it enters that you can just turn the knife, and it twists right out!
Great job btw lol...
Thanks 😅
Ooooooh pleeeease.
Sorry had a comment had to delete it 😋😂 i gotta grow up...
I saw that in my email! hahahahahaha yeah I didn't even catch it... I wonder if others will?
@@PilotJon aw snap u read it? Shucks. Well u know I was copying u right? Lol I mean cuz uve said it a few times so yeah
Removed a shitty broken riser just to put in the same shitty riser lol
