The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Live Reading with Janet Varney & Seychelle Gabriel [recording]

- This is a recording of the special live reading event featuring Janet Varney (Korra) and Seychelle Gabriel (Asami), the incredible voice talent behind the Nickelodeon characters from The Legend of Korra animated series, which was originally streamed live on Dark Horse's Twitch channel on April 6, 2020 at 2 pm Pacific. (twitch.tv/darkhorsecomics)
Following the live reading, live viewers participated in a Q&A session with the actors about The Legend of Korra comics and series.
The live reading is from the graphic novel The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part 1, covering the first chapter featuring Asami and Korra as they take a needed vacation in the spirit world. Janet really sounds like Korra when reading the comic But Seychelle LOOKS like Asami in real life 👌
Indeed, you should see her with Asami’s motorcycle glasses on and her hair down, she could easily still play live action Asami, even though she’s 32 in real life, she doesn’t look it though, and Janet is 47! That’s impressive, that she still looks so young.

I'm a fully grown man and this stuff brings me to tears why? because its the perfect love formed over 3 years... they started off as love rivals.... It's also because im really angry we didnt get this in a season 5.... Like I'm fucking pissed this story deserved to be finish and it feels not done... Deep in my heart i wish i never watched legends of Korra. its unlocked feeling i cant control because it doesnt feel like a just ending seeing in as a flat image... Thank you girls for doing the best you could... thank you.
This is the next best thing to having a fifth season.
janet and seychelle doing anything related to avatar makes me SO HAPPY just because i know what huge fans of the original show they were and getting to see them be a part of the avatar universe gives me hope that maybe i could be a part of something like this one day too

Now that I think about it, Seychelle kinda looks like a real life Asami without wearing makeup

@@AA-rr9ly I actually think Zuko’s actor was pretty good. Dev Patel’s a good comedic actor, he absolutely should’ve played Sokka instead of Zuko in my opinion.
@@PsychoSpot3324 i agree! He’s a great actor, and he played a good Zuko but the movie was just too bad it couldn’t be redeemed by him. If Korra gets a live action i’d like to see him as Prince Wu!

This comic is amazing in the sense without Nickelodeon censors holding them down, they can explore Korra and Asami's relationship as much as possible. The gay panic scene when they started to come out to Korra's parents even despite Korra being confident in their toleration was so relatable it put a stupid grin on my face. I love this!
Then Asami equating same-sex relationships as the Spirit World, special and rare is another smile moment from me
I think thats why theres no season 5 because nickelodeon can't explore the bisexueal relshonship between korra ans asami because the have such a young audience. The three novels would of been a season
@@moltenmills4950 viacom might shift the rights to put on the CBS streaming platform. Since Viacom is the parent company I assume they'd be able to do so, and the COO/CEO (forget which) of VIACOM recently said there is a lot of potential with Nick's "avatar" so I think its likely the 2020s will show us a new animated series past what Netflix is doing.
@@ready1player31 I couldn't really understand your take of it but I assume lok is in different hands, so my question is will there be a season 5? Since the rating of lok were extremely low in the ratings.
@@moltenmills4950 Not for the foreseeable future but the story continues in currently 2 trilogies of comics, and a new trilogy of comics is currently in development. They pick up right at the final scene of LoK
This graphic novel is beautifully written. Korra and Asami's relationship felt natural, and it never felt like Mike was pandering or trying to meet a "gay quota." Also, their butch and femme dynamic has never been more effective. It worked well enough in seasons 3 and 4, but it really works wonders now that they're a couple. Mike really did his homework when it came to portraying a female same-sex couple, and it really shows here. In conclusion: ya done good, Mikey. Ya done good.

Back then nickelodeon didn't support Korrasami and I heard they didn't want female lead. So the creator had to fight for it. I hope netflix can help or cooperate with nickelodeon. Just like how hbo max did to snydercut
@@shiranails0137 I honestly doubt Netflix will. Especially after they literally drove the atla creators away by refusing their terms for the live action show and cancelling three shows with wlw representation, I doubt they'd be on board with a 5th season filled with korrasami 😔

Hoping there is more Korra stuff in the future. I always felt LOK needed more content, especially for how popular avatar as a whole is. Korra was just starting to develop into a way better character towards the end of book 4. She's definitely the way to go, and her story should continue. There's so much she could explore in the avatar universe.
Here's hoping Bryke give us more stuff now that they founded Avatar Studios to continue expanding thi wonderful universe.

Loving it so far. Awesome job everyone ! I found it very sweet how Janet was very excited. Haha,so she accidentally end up taking over Seychelle line when it was leading to the kiss. I also thought they were waiting to do some kind of improv kiss scene sound effect. By the wyd very awesome. They had moments to improv with their characters. :)

Thank you for doing this! I just finished all the content from Netflix, Books 5 & 6. These readings with the voice actors really brought a new dimension to the graphic novels. I wish I was a fan before this reading, so I could attend this live.
I feel LOK has so much more to explore past Books 5 & 6. I especially love the relationship between Korra & Asami. It feels so organic & true. I hope there will be more LOK content in the near future!

I was/am re-watching and re-reading anything Avatar related that I own or can acces these past few months. Re-watched ATLA, LOK, read the Kyoshi and Yangchen novels, the small legacy books and now the LOK comics. When I found out you did a live reading of the comics, I was extatic!

I believe Katara's voice is still the same as well? But that's probably why we're not getting a live reading of ATLA's comics, haha.

@@doktorlady7072 Dante is more or less one of those VA's who has a pretty unique regular voice and... just use that for most of his roles basically haha.
Because the ATLA Va's were actual kids (except Dante Basco), so of course they dont sound like their characters anymore. The LOK Va's are all adults.
So glad I watched legend of Korra after this reading came out.

Today I received The Legend of Korra Turf Wars Library Edition and to celebrate I'm reading it along this video to enjoy it with the voices of Janet and Seychelle!
I couldn't be happier that I got this book!! (I got Ruins of the Empire last month)
I hope The Legend of Korra gets more content with the coming Avatar Studios (more animates series, movies, comics, soundtracks, everything!) and I hope the rest of these comics get to be read by the cast^^
