Watched my share of games in the left field bleachers (Jonesville) at Jarry Park. Tickets were $1 but only 50 cents if you were a member of the Young Expos Club. Mack Jones always threw a ball to us kids. We usually went to double-headers to get the most bang for our buck. Was there the day they broke 30,000 or the first time bringing in extra chairs. During the mid-70s -- I think 1973 or 1974 -- I was on an Eastern Canada trip and, during a couple days in Montreal in August, going to see a twi-night double-header at Jarry Park. It was a delightful, intimate setting for a ball game. But it was cold. Having only a light summer jacket, I was freezing by the middle of the second game. But I couldn't leave - the pitcher for visiting team (Burt Hooton for the Cubs) was taking a no-hitter into the 7th inning. Finally, in the 7th, someone got a hit for the Expos, and I got to go so someplace warmer. A memorable experience, nevertheless.
I babysit for Boccabella his last season in 1973 in Montréal . They were our neighbours. Great guy. Yes I was a member of the “young expos club” hygrade hot dogs were one of the sponsors. We would sneak in to other side after the 4 th inning. I saw Tom Seaver pitch there, Roberto Clemente play, Bob Gibson and more.
I still recall the July 4, 1973 game at Jarry Park when John Boccabella and Boots Day lit up Tom Seaver in a huge late comeback win. The organ playing at Jarry Park was some of the best in all of MLB back when organ music was the norm instead of Spotify.
I remember listening to a radio broadcast with the Expos and the announcer kept saying Park Jarry. (Being a young kid, I always thought that was pretty cool). Anyway, I would love to see baseball back in Montreal. There's definitely a lot of history there. Thank you for sharing that video.
As a 19 y.o. kid hitches across North America in 1975 I stopped in for an August afternoon game between the Expoes and Dodgers. I sat in the left field bleachers and after the game I remember seeing Nate Colburn outside the stadium with the fans.
Some may already know, but the Nationals recognize Expos players in the Ring of Honor behind home plate. The Ring includes Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Vlad Guerrero and Tim Raines. The Ring also features notables from the old Washington Senators and some Negro League stars.
The thing I most remember about watching games from Le Parc Jarry was seeing people swim in the public pool just beyond the right field fence. I have never been to Montreal. I only saw the Expos on WGN-TV when the Chicago Cubs would visit there. The similar pool at the Arizona Diamondbacks field had to have been inspired by the one at Parc Jarry.
I was fortunate to attend games at Jarry park when I was in high school. I saw the Giants (May's, McCovey, etc), the Big Red Machine, and the Phillies. I was fortunate to attend games at Olympic stadium including watching Barry Bonds hit a home run. Great memories...
My dad was thrilled to find out that Canada would be getting an MLB club in 1969. My family and I are from the Cincinnati area, but Dad had fallen in love with Canada when he played a Canadien mounted policeman in the operetta "Rose Marie". He realized that Expo '67 (the World's Fair) was a huge success for Canada, and he liked the Expos. He also loved the Canadien National Anthem "O Canada" and the song "The Maple Leaf Forever". He was also into shortwave radio and had a Halicrafter's SW radio.
The Expos need to come back! Anyway. I got a few more suggestions: How did the Eric Lindros trade impact the NHL? Why is Wrigley Field so special? What happened to the Miami Orange Bowl? How did SMU get caught for their CFB recruiting violations? How did the 49ers become a dynasty in the 1989s?
I was at their opening day game in April 1969. We had 2 season tickets behind home plate in the 3rd row. Price? $350 per seat for 81 games. $3.75 per game. Stoneman, Staub, Bateman, Sutherland, Mack Jones, Coco Laboy, Fairley, John Bocccaaabella etc…..
Loved Jarry Park. You couldn't get any closer to the game unless you were wearing a uniform and a glove. You could often hear the players. The stadium was full of characters, there was "Peanut" the vender who had a throwing arm that could almost match the ones on the field.
The Giants vs Steelers pre-season game wasn't an interleague contest. The Steelers were an NFL team that were placed in the newly formed AFC (after the NFL/AFL merger) along with 2 other NFL teams, the Colts and Browns
Got to see a couple of Expos games at Le Stade Olympique in 1980, sadly I missed out on Jarry Park, aka Parc Jarry. I would love to see the return of Les Expos, but apparently according to a recent survey, the local population does not feel the same way. So sad.
As a Montrealer, it would be cool to see the city get a team back. The problem is that most people, including myself, don't want the city or province to spend hundreds of millions to finance a ballpark. If a private investor wants to build one with their own money though, I think there would be very few pushback
Good to hear from a real Montrealer Estelle, I expect your attitude is shared by most folks. You guys got "stuck" with the whole 1976 Olympics fiasco and I understand about the money issues. If you all want Major League Baseball back, you will need to convince some local Billionaire to kick in some cash to get things moving. Here's hoping it happens. I am a resident of the USA.
Hey Mr. AllSports, the Olympic Stadium is very cavernous, and not a real homey environment for baseball. There would have to be, I believe, a domed stadium for it to work, privately financed, or maybe co-financed. Montreal is a vibrant city, lots of energy and forward momentum, but it needs to be done right, not on the cheap.
In March 2025, Montreal Baseball Group, led by Stephen Bronfman and Mitch Garber, will pay an expansion fee of $2 billion to award an expansion franchise to Montreal, with play to begin in the 2028 MLB season, so the new Montreal franchise will again be known as the Expos. In September 2025, Montreal Baseball Group will purchase a 20-acre land where Stade IGA (formerly Jarry Park Stadium) will be closed and demolished to make room for the new ballpark for the 2nd incarnation of the Expos. In November 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 2nd incarnation of the Expos' new ballpark will occur on the Stade IGA site.
i can't compare jarry park with the big o, i was born in 1975, but still, i missed the expo's big time. 1994 season's strike killed the team for good, but prior to that event i was a regular at their games and it was just magical, really. good times it would be nice to have them back in montreal, i wont hold my breath, but i would go back to see them no matter wich stadium they'll play
A great informative video. The loss of the Expos has made Montreal infinitely poorer in so many respects. It is hard to comprehend how so many smaller market less than cosmopolitan cities have MLB teams and Montreal doesn't.
In May 2023 I visited Montreal and found myself at the Parc Jarry complex. It's a large public area full of athletic fields. I found the IGA tennis stadium. While I was disappointed that Jarry Park had been reappropriated for tennis, it was nice to know that I was standing where the baseball field used to be. I also took the opportunity to hunt down an authentic Expos cap. I know you can buy them online, but I wanted to buy one in person in Montreal. It took me a while, but I finally found one. I also was able to speak to a couple of people who had been Expos fans. I was struck by the fact that they were still hurt and angry that their team had left. I guess it's the same sort of hurt the Brooklyn Dodger and New York Giants fans felt when their teams left them.
When Monday homered I knew game was over. I cried for 3 days! Then in 94 that killed the franchise. People don't remember but that was to be the first year of wildcard. So in my mind even if the braves made up 6 games and overtook them expos were still going to postseason. They beat Maddux and other great pitchers that year. Their lineup was deep their rotation and bullpen as well. I remember my Dad parking the motor home outside jarry the night before we saw expos beat cards. Lou Brock bake Mcbride Ted Simmons forsch. Cards had good teams in 70s.
I remember the very first game because I was a St.Louis Cardinals fan and was proud that my team was the first to ever play a game outside of the USA. I recall a few of those old Expo players, Like Mack Jones, Coco Laboy and of course Rusty Staub. I don't even remember who won the game or what the score was but it was so strange to hear the P.A. announcer pronouncing the players names in French when they came to bat.
Ah, yes memories. Who can forget Mack Jones who belted a three-run homer and a two-run triple to lead the Expos to victory on their first ever opening day. The left-field bleachers from that point on became known as Jonesville. Then there was the super energetic organist who was without equal in the MLB at that time. And lets not forget the PA announcer who would announce John BOCCAAAAAAAAA BELLAAAAAA every time he came to the plate. Those were the days. Pure magic.
I remember taking a bus from Fairview shopping centre in Pointe Claire in 1973 when I was 12 to Jarry Park for games ( it was a school bus lol) and we’d sit in the bleachers. I also remember Stormy Monday when Rick Monday hit a homer for the Dodgers (at the Olympic Stadium I think it was 1981 ) Blount the Expos out of a chance at the World Series. I always had the same seats and sat two rows behind Donald and Kiefer Sutherland. Don always wore a yellow Mac lol cheers from Montreal
My mother is a Montrealer and always described Jarry Park as a normal municipal park where anyone could stop by, sit on the grass and watch a game. This always seemed impossible to me, and when I lived in the city as an undergrad in the ‘90s I checked out the park, which now had DuMaurier Stadium there and I figured “ah, that must be the original ballpark!” Of course it wasn’t, as this video shows, and I later realized my mom’s recollections are from before MLB even came to Montreal (she’d left the city by then), so the temporary seating hadn’t been constructed and it legitimately was a normal city park…
as a kid my dad and i would do a yearly trip to see "les Expo's", don't remember any one game, but i really remember the thunder of people stomping there feet on the bleachers that were made of aluminium..i thought the whole damn thing would fall apart!!!
"When Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s colour barrier in 1947, he entered American history books. What many baseball fans may not realize, however, is that Robinson was embraced by Canadian fans one year earlier as a member of the Montreal Royals, a farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers." "A statue of Jackie Robinson stands outside the Olympic Stadium in Montréal, home of the former Montreal Expos." ( Robinson wore #9. His is the only jersey Montreal never raised to the rafters.)
There was nothing like the fever of 1969. Baseball was totally alien in Montreal and the city immersed itself fanatically into the sport. It even had to be translated into French. The team was bad but the crowds were huge. The small park was intimate and I think the low level players enjoyed being heroes, something they had not experienced in their careers to date. It was a love in. Sadly reality came to roost and the harsh weather and mediocre attendance eventually caught up with the franchise. As for its return, a domed stadium is required and good luck with that. As for the tennis stadium, at least its been put to use and part of the original was kept. The tennis tournament is supported heavily and Jarry Park lives on. Finally I never forgot going to the bleachers for $1.50 and seeing guys carrying a case of 24 beers under their arm into the stadium. Now the going rate is $14 a beer bought at a hockey game. By the second game of the doubleheader, these guys were looped.
I agree There had been an Expo67 mania during the world's Fair Drapeau drew on that and 1969 Expos created a mini mania with all of the Baseball Jargon being translated into French I was not fluent in French but I was sttill studying it, and I was reading all the posters on the Metro Par example: Ne dites pas X Plutôt Dites Y It was a hoot. Staub, Coco Laboy, Boccabella became instant - albeit temporary - icons My Dad did business in Montréal (Longueille) And we'd join him occasionally on business trips... il y a très très longtemps... Where have the years gone - mes amis?
I attended a game at Jarry Park in 1973. I don’t remember anything about the game other than there was a triple play - I think by the Expos but ???. I remember it in part as there was no replay scoreboard so after a couple of quiet hits - no outs - the next batter came up and unexpectedly all the players on the field started for the dugout.
If that day ever comes and the Expos do return I would like to see a new stadium built on the site of the old Jarry Park stadium if there is no downtown site available.
Just to nitpick a bit, you said that Jarry Park hosted 2 interleague NFL-AFL pre-season games in the park's first year and listed the Lions vs Patriots and the Steelers vs Giants. At the time these games were played the Steelers were still part of the NFL. They didn't move to the AFC until the merger beginning in 1970. That said, the Phillies clinched their first ever division title at Jarry Park in 1976 after winning the first game of the September 26th double header. The Phils took 4 of 5 games from the Expos in that series. Sadly the Expos never legitimately made the playoffs in their existence only making it by winning the 2nd half of the strike shortened 1981 season and they got completely jobbed by the strike in 1994 as they were clearly the best team in baseball that season. Had the strike not happened and the Expos made it to if not won the World Series I don't think they move.
Nostalgic place but playing games there in the early 70’s, the sun’s glare over the left field wall onto the facing seats which were painted silver made it almost impossible too field balls at third base during middle innings of day games 🙏🏼⚾️❤️
Giants/Steelers wasn't interleague as the Steelers were in the old guard NFL with the Giants. All these years, I didn't know splash hits were a thing in Montréal!
I went to Jarry park as a kid with my family and friends and watched a double header from the cold aluminum left field bleachers and watched the Mets play the Expos, both games went into extra innings and it was very late getting done but seeing Willie Mays was worth freezing for...and the sound of the planes going over head was crazy also....
not “in the footprint” as claimed: it incorporates the seating bowl and press box into the new tennis stadium, it’s why the end is curved instead of straight
I don' tknow why but I always enjoyed those Expos teams. Growing up in Missouri I'd watch the telvised games anytime the Expos played the Cardinals. Expos legend Steve Rogers was born in my hometown of Jefferson City Missouri. Those teams had more talent than may realize. Besides Staub, Dawson, Carter and Rogers there was Tim Raines, Pete Rose, Warren Cromartie, Pedro Martinez, Larry Walker and Vladi Guerrero. And they had great managers like Dick Williams, Frank Robinson, Bill Virdon, Felipe Alou and Gene Mauch.
And of course they had Tony Perez for a few years. Tony still had several good seasons in Montreal and Boston after his trade from Cincinnati after the 1976 season.
Autostade was designed and built for the 1967 Expo, hosting many 'oversized' events that were too big for the island fairgrounds. Each section of the stadium were constructed as separate units to be dismantled and re-erected on a new site if required. The name came from automotive companies who payed for it - AMC Chrysler, GM & Volvo. One early stand out feature was first use of the single-shaft "goose-necked" field goal posts that are the standard for football north and south of the border. Would never have been a suitable layout or location for MLB baseball. Jarry had it's drawbacks, but it didn't compare to the mess at Seattle's Sick's stadium in '69 where Pilots did outdraw 4 other teams. The first year, there was no direct tunnel from Expos dugout to clubhouse. Both teams (and pitchers knocked out in-game) had the long walk down LF foul line to the clubhouses. There were several areas with names like - "Jonesville" for Mack Jones left field bleachers where his homers would land etc.. Drapeau, the little man who's ego would overshadow his monumental dreams that cost taxpayers million$. Pope wouldn't pay for naming rights but DuMarier would. Baker Bowl RF was short, the wall was monstrous, Phils use Lifebouy - and the still stink!
If only for the fact that the very first MLB game played outside the US, was played in Montreal, the Expos should be granted a concession in the next expansion round, just for posterity’s sake!
neer the tennis stadium, we have a baseball stadium whit a capacity of 2000 person for junior and college baseball, the stadium name "stade gary carter"
If Nashville, TN or Charlotte, NC weren’t considered for possible MLB Expansion, I could definitely see Montreal be high up on the list. Unfortunately no local group has posted new ballpark renderings or no investment group for Montreal either.
Yeah my guess is Salt Lake City, and Nashville get teams first. If the A’s experiment in Sacramento works, then it could be Sacramento instead of Salt Lake as well.
@@AllSportsHistory It's too bad. The Expos had some really great teams when Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Larry Parrish, Steve Rodgers and I could go on, played for them. I don't remember what happened to the franchise that prompted the move, but they were loaded with talent at one time.
This Year is the 20th Years Anniversary Of the lost Of our "Nos Amours, Nos Expos de Montréal ⚾" I dream about the Return Of the Montreal's Expos back in Montreal.. Stephen Bronfman try to bring the Tampa Rays here In 2019-2022 but everything was cancel.. I lost hope to see baseball back in Montreal 😭
My parents loved going to Jarry! Big fans of "nos amours" (Expos) They would bring their vinyl outdoor cushion seats. Funny my mom told us the same story 100 times: "The ball was coming straight at me! I raised my bb glove!... Then an "idiot" lift his hand and diverted the ball straight to my foot! The pain! The ball rolled away sob". Thx
I miss the Expos. They were my favorite MLB NL club growing up... then poof they were gone... now the NL don't really exist anymore (lets face it.. they are one big league now).. but I never got into any other NL clubs...
Haha I thought about that too when I saw that newspaper headline. If I remember right, the tax payers in Denver revolted when they heard they’d have to foot the bill for a lot of the event. And I think they held a special election to reject the awarding of the bid. But yeah that would be a fantastic video for sure!
I think there's enough of a demand that the Expos would do well in Montreal, though it's clear they would need a new stadium and not just re-use or renovate Olympic Stadium. You do run into the same issues as before like the currency exchange rate and that Montreal is a french-speaking city with a horrendous winter. Perhaps the next baseball expansion will be Utah and Montreal?
Agree with all your points, I think the next expansion would most likely be Salt Lake City and Nashville before Montreal gets a team. Then it could be a team in the Carolinas, Portland, another Texas team, who knows?
Meanwhile, Montreal’s rival just converted their multipurpose stadium into a legit ballpark after a two year renovation. If Toronto can do that to Skydome, I don’t see why Montreal couldn’t do that with Olympic Stadium.
There was another major league sports franchise based outta Canadian 🇨🇦 provence, Que. which transplanted to another home base. That would be N.H.L.'s Nordiques (former W.H.A. team) that in mid-1990s transplanted to Colo.'s "Mi. High" capital city, Denver here in U.S./would be re-branded as Avalanche. After 1995-1996 season original Winn. Jets (another former W.H.A. franchise) transplanted to "Grand Canyon State", Ariz. here in U.S. as well/they were re-branded as Coyotes. Then in early-2000s decade Grizzlies N.B.A. franchise transplanted from City, Vancouver in m'nlnd British Columbia in "Great White No." to U.S. city, Memphis, Tenn.
Speaking, Memphis, Tenn., would you've wanted the Rock 'n Roll Hall, Fame/Museum be in that city due to fact that that music got its roots there in early-1950s, or would you've wanted to have it be in Clev., Ohio where it's presently located in/where term "Rock 'n Roll" was coined in early-1950s?

The thing I most remember about watching games from Le Parc Jarry was seeing people swim in the public pool just beyond the right field fence. I have never been to Montreal. I only saw the Expos on WGN-TV when the Chicago Cubs would visit there. The similar pool at the Arizona Diamondbacks field had to have been inspired by the one at Parc Jarry.
I’m glad the Dbacks brought back the pool idea. Having been to Chase field, it’s easily the best part of the stadium.
Anyway. I got a few more suggestions:
How did the Eric Lindros trade impact the NHL?
Why is Wrigley Field so special?
What happened to the Miami Orange Bowl?
How did SMU get caught for their CFB recruiting violations?
How did the 49ers become a dynasty in the 1989s?
All great suggestions, I’m planning on doing a video on Wrigley field soon!
As a 14 year old, Saw my favourite Pitcher 🧢⚾️ Bill Stoneman (2 No-Hitters) take on the Dodgers Jarry Parc 1970 🏟️💪👌👍
Yeah that’s my bad, thanks for the correction!
I loved JARRY PARK . It was like watching Baseball back home in Brooklyn .
And those uniforms!! Oh la la 🎉
Yeah it would definitely need to be privately financed.
That’s awesome, I’ve walked around Olympic stadium but never got to see the Expos play there.
If only ... Expos Toujours!
i can't compare jarry park with the big o, i was born in 1975, but still, i missed the expo's big time. 1994 season's strike killed the team for good, but prior to that event i was a regular at their games and it was just magical, really. good times
it would be nice to have them back in montreal, i wont hold my breath, but i would go back to see them no matter wich stadium they'll play
One the best logos in all of sports. And beautiful unis.
agreed!
As an old montrealer - I always found it weird and unclear lol
We saw a game there in 1968 or 1969. Rusty Staub was their big star at the time.
A great informative video. The loss of the Expos has made Montreal infinitely poorer in so many respects. It is hard to comprehend how so many smaller market less than cosmopolitan cities have MLB teams and Montreal doesn't.
Jarry park was a great place to watch baseball , small and good views everywhere
Sounds like it! I wish I'd had a chance to go.
Ahh Parc Jarry, I go running there all the time. I love Montreal.
Very cool. I forgot about this place.
Yeah it was an interesting little stadium to say the least!
Pure magic.
I recall the critics saying that their uniforms looked like a softball teams uniforms.
Great Vid, do one on Exhibition Stadium in Toronto please, It had a interesting history to say the least
Thank you, yeah Exhibition Stadium would be a good topic to cover!
Great video🎉🎉
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
My mother is a Montrealer and always described Jarry Park as a normal municipal park where anyone could stop by, sit on the grass and watch a game. This always seemed impossible to me, and when I lived in the city as an undergrad in the ‘90s I checked out the park, which now had DuMaurier Stadium there and I figured “ah, that must be the original ballpark!”
Of course it wasn’t, as this video shows, and I later realized my mom’s recollections are from before MLB even came to Montreal (she’d left the city by then), so the temporary seating hadn’t been constructed and it legitimately was a normal city park…
Yep kind of crazy they put an MLB stadium in the middle of a public park lol
Let's be honest here - at the end only 2000 people would show up for game at the stadium (50k seats)
as a kid my dad and i would do a yearly trip to see "les Expo's", don't remember any one game, but i really remember the thunder of people stomping there feet on the bleachers that were made of aluminium..i thought the whole damn thing would fall apart!!!
Hah sounds like some great memories!
My grandfather from Pittsfield, MA went to this field in the 60s to see a game.
"When Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s colour barrier in 1947, he entered American history books. What many baseball fans may not realize, however, is that Robinson was embraced by Canadian fans one year earlier as a member of the Montreal Royals, a farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers."
"A statue of Jackie Robinson stands outside the Olympic Stadium in Montréal, home of the former Montreal Expos."
( Robinson wore #9. His is the only jersey Montreal never raised to the rafters.)
This man should have 1 Million subscribers
Haha thank you! Hopefully I’ll get to a million someday
Oh crazy how stadiums used to let people bring in their own beer lol
I agree
There had been an Expo67 mania during the world's Fair
Drapeau drew on that and 1969 Expos created a mini mania with all of the Baseball Jargon being translated into French
I was not fluent in French but I was sttill studying it, and I was reading all the posters on the Metro
Par example:
Ne dites pas X
Plutôt Dites Y
It was a hoot.
Staub, Coco Laboy, Boccabella became instant - albeit temporary - icons
My Dad did business in Montréal (Longueille)
And we'd join him occasionally on business trips...
il y a très très longtemps...
Will you make a video on the Arizona Coyotes relocation?
Yeah I definitely have plans to!
When will you do it?
Yeah, when are you going to it?
@@jamiemueller6829 Probably next month or so... I've got a few other videos in the pipeline at the moment.
If that day ever comes and the Expos do return I would like to see a new stadium built on the site of the old Jarry Park stadium if there is no downtown site available.
Would be a nice sports complex, kind of like what the Mets have with the US open courts nearby.
Yep my bad, I flubbed that part - should have made it clear it was actually one interleague game. Thanks for the correction!
@@AllSportsHistory that's why there's erasers on pencils.
Nostalgic place but playing games there in the early 70’s, the sun’s glare over the left field wall onto the facing seats which were painted silver made it almost impossible too field balls at third base during middle innings of day games 🙏🏼⚾️❤️
Yeah delaying games because the sun was too bright just shows how makeshift the whole stadium was!
@@AllSportsHistoryyep but that was 50 years ago. Sunglasses 😎 and eyeblack helped a bit 😄
@All Sports History I’ve Read About This Stadium in Wikipedia and It’s Very Interesting That The Expos Played There Besides Olympic Stadium!
Yeah it was a lot of fun researching it, very interesting stuff!
@@AllSportsHistory Yup and I Miss The Montreal Expos!
Giants/Steelers wasn't interleague as the Steelers were in the old guard NFL with the Giants. All these years, I didn't know splash hits were a thing in Montréal!
Yeah my bad, I should have clarified that. Thanks for the correction!
Ah ok, thanks for the correction!
The expose were my favorite baseball team.I wish they would come back
Me too!
They had special teams, especially in ‘94!
Ellis Valentine & Larry Parrish
@@martyvink6097 yep! Great players both!
And of course they had Tony Perez for a few years. Tony still had several good seasons in Montreal and Boston after his trade from Cincinnati after the 1976 season.
Pete Rose was only an Expos for less than one season. Then he returned to Cincinnati, where he belonged.
One early stand out feature was first use of the single-shaft "goose-necked" field goal posts that are the standard for football
north and south of the border.
Both teams (and pitchers knocked out in-game) had the long
walk down LF foul line to the clubhouses.
I remember being so excited when my Mets got Rusty Staub. They gave up a lot for him but he was worth it.
Best logo in all of baseball.
There was a plan a few years ago to have the Tampa Bay Devil Rays play 1/2 a season in Montreal
Yeah that was a bizarre plan lol
i was there saw hank aaron
I went there once in 1969 against the fellow expansion team San Diego Padres
Nice!
If only for the fact that the very first MLB game played outside the US, was played in Montreal, the Expos should be granted a concession in the next expansion round, just for posterity’s sake!
People would like it, but there ain’t no new stadium nor room for it
neer the tennis stadium, we have a baseball stadium whit a capacity of 2000 person for junior and college baseball, the stadium name "stade gary carter"
Bring back the Expos. Jarry Park should be a model for River Cats Stadium in West Sacramento where the Athletics are supposed to play.
All Sacramento needs is a pool!
Stomping in the bleacher seats made a huge noise
Yes bring back a baseball team to Montreal great rivalry with the blue jays.
I got to go to a game at Olympic Stadium when I was very young. It's a pretty cool memory but I wish it had been Jarry Park instead
Yeah me too, unfortunately we’ll probably never experience outdoor MLB games like that in Montreal again.
Thx
Don't forget Jonesville - the bleachers behind left fielder Mack Jones.
Ironic. Expos closed out shibe park. Phila closed out Jarry Park.
I miss the Expos. They were my favorite MLB NL club growing up... then poof they were gone... now the NL don't really exist anymore (lets face it.. they are one big league now).. but I never got into any other NL clubs...
Yeah the days before interleague play really made the AL/NL matchups that more special.
I loved the old unis.
Me too!
Loved the Expos at Jarry and their home whites.
Both uniforms were great, the home whites and those powder blue away jerseys.
@@AllSportsHistory I miss the Expos. They were about to build a dynasty before the end when management sold off their stars.
A very simple stadium, somewhat similar to Arlington Stadium where the Texas Rangers played from 1972 to 1993. Arlington Stadium was bigger.
That's true, although the biggest difference would be melting in the heat of the Texas summers.
Yes I would like to see the Montreal expos back to me they were the original teams that came out
Hopefully someday they'll be back.
One of the greatest logos in Sports.
Montreal wouldn't support a new team. But they would support a Red Sox vs Blue Jays annual series up there.
Buffalo, N.Y. held a grudge, not getting that franchise.
5:17 holds a story I would love to see - Denver Winter (Olympics) Host in '76. We know Innsbruck, Austria hosted these games. WHY?
A video on Exhibition stadium is next.
That’s a good topic!
Jarry Park wasn't a stadium. It was literally a neighborhood park. They just threw some slabs of concrete to make the seats.
Olympic stadium can't be torn down as its estimated it would cost >$1 billion to do so and a line of the Montreal subway runs right under it.
Yeah it’s a tough situation, it’s gonna take a lot of money either way to figure out a way forward.
I know this video is baseball related, however, with the coyotes relocating, are you going to make a video on them?
Yeah, I have it on my to do list now!
Meanwhile, Montreal’s rival just converted their multipurpose stadium into a legit ballpark after a two year renovation. If Toronto can do that to Skydome, I don’t see why Montreal couldn’t do that with Olympic Stadium.
Yeah and unfortunately it takes private financing to get it done, which has yet to come to fruition
I hate to add this. Its time for you to do one about the Arizona Coyotes
I've definitely got plans for one!
Went once. They beat the Cubs 3-2. 3rd base side not that far behind the plate. Beautiful day in the city.
