    I have a hard time watching even the greatest drummers in the world do a solo, but never Steve Gadd, he's just so musical in his approach. You could get your guitar and write music over what he does, like a free inspiration human drum machine. Also you never get the sense that his ego is intrenched in anything he's doing, like this is what he'd do on a solo in his garage on a Sunday or in front of thousands.

    That is just ridiculously amazing.
    The locked in groove just makes it impossible to watch this without nodding or tapping my foot.
    So many drummers are superb technically, but lack taste in the sense that it's all complex fills without locking down a groove to tie everything together.
    Ultimately it's this central rhythm that makes music.
    Great job Steve.

    I feel like every hit is just so right... idk how to express it, it's just that I really wouldn't have anybody play it any other way. Every hit feels like it comes at the right time, with the right force, and just so satisfying.
    I'm not into drums. I dunno a thing about playing drums. My dad is a photographer and he knows a lot about the world of art in general (especially music) and I wanna be an animation director so I feel like it's my homework to hold a large amount of knowledge much like him. He's the one who told me about Gadd.

    • @fotc1313
      @fotc1313 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your assessment is so close to my own... What I see when I watch him is that every single hit is so deliberate; exactly how he wants it to be, as if he evaluated each and every hit for timing, accent, groove, etc... But what makes him so extraordinary, is that while every hit seems analyzed because it's so perfect, it just flows out of him naturally... That's how I always felt watching Stevie Ray play guitar; it's like the instrument is merely the vehicle they use so that we can hear their souls speak... it's entertaining to watch/hear musicians that are technically gifted, but to witness a musician's soul speaking directly through their instrument is something so much more worthwhile & satisfying...

    This is a continuation of an idea he expressed during the Buddy Rich Memorial Concert during his first section of the Weckyl, Colaiuta, Gadd trio. It is neat to see how over a lifetime that a musician can get so much out of what amounts to a bar or two of patterns.

    WOW. his timing and feel and groove, what can I say, the drummers who play nine million beats to the bar with there double bass drums can't wipe Steve Gadd's ass, 90% of those drummers if you asked them to slow there licks down and just play in a groove like Steve they could never do it, same with allot of guitarist nowadays with there zillion scales per minute, but they can't wipe Jimmy Pages ass for feel and expression, and the leads that are memorable.

      Oh shush. so many people say what you say and it's annoying too haha. I was that guy you talk about once. I started backwards too trying to shred my way to the top. And eventually I found my way to the likes of Steve Gadd Group, Jeff Beck, Wes Montgomery, all kinds of music. Most importantly i learned to appreciate music more and learned that not everything is fast paced. To me it don't matter how you become a musician because in the end if you're a true musician at heart you will find your way to such legends as Gadd and learn the real shit. I play guitar and I know many of his songs now. go figure and I wanted to be the fastest haha. I started by trying to be a guitar shredder and now I'm here playing slow to this. haha. Anyways good day don't hate man. one of those guys that started as a shredder might be the next big thang.
