- Hong Kil Dong, DPRK 1986. Based on an anonymous Korean novel written during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897)
Plot:
Hong Kil Dong, illegitimate son of a nobleman and his lowborn concubine, was born in Hanseong (now Seoul) in Korea in the late 16th century during the Joseon era. His stepmother tries to have him killed by bandits, but he is rescued by a monk who uses martial arts. Hong trains with the monk and defends the oppressed villagers, later he fights against an invasion of Japanese ninjas.
This film is quite famous in Western Countries
It was famous in Bulgaria and Cuba and from Cuba It CAME to many Spanish speaking countries
Hong Kil Dong from the mid 80s
Interesting that at 11:14 they showed the authentic tradition of Korean 'chador', called the 'Jang-ot' (장옷/長衣). Despite the stereotypes we have nowadays, it wasn't only Muslim women who wore veils historically in this part of Asia, but married Confucian women did as well. In Joseon Korea it was illegal for women to leave their homes without wearing the 'jang-ot', right until the turn of the 20th century. Something South Korean historic films won't show by trying to whitewash or downplay the gender-segregation and theocratic norms within the Joseon Dynasty.
Literally every young girl character from South korean historic dramas and movies have at least 1 scene wearing the Jang ot.
This is how the real K-Drama actually look like. Love from Indonesia.
Is from north korea not south korea
@@rianimb2822 that's the point
No fuuny. Can’t comparable. U need to watch bong joon-ho’s film first. Also Jumong, loved by entire middle eastern countries.
❤Great movie. It's a classic movie made in the 80's and it's great👍👍👍
One thing reminds me a lot of the "Eastern films" from Hong Kong. Although HK was very capitalistic and western, the Japanese always portrayed there as very evil. This surprised me.
Japan has a bad reputation in all of Asia, including South Korea, even though both are US allies
That's the truth that Japanese tortured Koreans and that after, North Korea and South Korea got seperated otherwise they wouldn't.. Korea is one..

I love this film.
Lovely 🎥,I learn that don't forgive enemies,,
No you are wrong, you should forgive enemies then they will change automatically, like how we Indians forgive others.
Does anyone know what March does the DPRK play at around the opening of a parade or ceremony , usually when the leaders are about to speak? I've heard it in old videos too but just can't find it, it's like an equivalent to Russia's Slavsya (they play it at the presidential inauguration).

I hope this does not seem an odd question: is there a science fiction genre in DPRK films, as was prolific in the Soviet Union and DDR?
👍👍👍👍👍
Arigato!
They should change Kil Dong for the english translation. Quality movie, has it all: action, comedy, history and drama.

Woww is this film really from north korea?
1986
Hi Phuong! Do you know if DPRK made any film in the last ten or five years? Sometimes I watch some North Korean films but I can only find movies from 1990 (and before)
You can watch "story of our home" (2016), and "comrade kim goes flying" (2012), "pyongyang nalpharam" (2006), "the schoolgirl's diary" (2006)
@@pricillaviony4109 Thanks!
@@facundomattei4248 why they make less movies?
That bass at 1:26:44 goes hard ngl...
Translate to english
Why don't you just read the subs? They are in English, aren't they?
At least, in 80s North korea film better than vietnam
I love historical Asian drams, especially Korean ones, but I can't watch anything where men can leap over trees, spin in space and one man can defeat a hundred. I want historical, not fantasy.
The original book is a fantasy though. Pure Sword & Sorcery.
Then don't watch.
Read a history book instead.
Allow the rest of us to be entertained.
Arigato.
