I found your channel a few months after my sibling unexpectedly passed away. It felt like the world around me simply fell apart. Time kept marching on but I felt stuck in place. I stumbled upon one of your videos by accident. Best accident of my life.
In the last 2 and a half months, I went from feeling like my life was going nowhere, to being one of 4 university students to go on a very special trip to study overseas. I've never left the country before, and this is very scary for me, but I would not have done it without your incredible content. The empathy you share in your advice is completely unmatched.
If the TH-cam algorithm hadn't randomly suggested a video from you those 3 months ago, I don't know where I'd be now. You changed my outlook on life and I have been able to begin healing.
Thank you so much for all that you do. Even if you don't upload regularly all the time, you're still changing lives--and that is already a great achievement. Thank you.

You have no idea of how much this is got me excited! I have a really hard time on trying to use planners and bullet journals bc i need to visualize things in order to understand it. like actually be able to see all at once you know? I also need it to be flexible so I can manage different types of projects and keep track of how much I have progressed. I have adhd so, if I don't see it, it doesn't exist. I NEED things to be visual. and I also am an artist so I really need things to be aesthetic pleasing in order to get "attached" to it you know? I feel like I get some type of emotional attachment with things that I created artistically so it is harder for me to give up on it. i probably sound weird, but I think it makes a lot of sense to my brain, so thank u a lot!

this inspired me to make my own, very barebones version: The Frog Bucket
I have a drawing of a frog on my wall; next to it are little sticky notes with small tasks ("come up with loglines", etc). After I "eat each frog", the sticky note gets ripped up and put into The Bucket, which will increase in size as needed. The goal now is to see how big of a Bucket I can fill up with "frog" bits

It's been easy for me to get in my head about falling behind, and it makes it harder to start back up and keep going. I've been so anxious and scared of uni assignments these couple months, since I see all these other kids having such cool designs and ideas for the task, and also I'm studying in german, my third language. everything feels so overwhelming for me while in fact when broken into smaller tasks everything is doable like you said. thank you for the video, it's nice to have someone in the creative field guiding us about productivity :)

I created something similar for myself a while back and it was a game changer. My board only has 3 sections: Concept; In Progress; and Complete. It serves as a placeholder for ideas I have so I don't have to hold them in my head or worry that I'll forget them. And, it tracks my progress. It's simple and very effective.

That's amazing, looks good but above all else seems extremely functional, thanks for sharing :) I'd like to share a small revelation that I had regarding the "feeling good" or "productivity as a means to an end and not an end itself". Just a small content warning for grief/trauma dump beforehand though lmao.
For years I've been in a mentally exhausting "procrastinating productivity trap". I ask myself what sorts of things I would want from life, and instead my brain answers with things I SHOULD do: exercise, learn new skills, clean more, be more ecological, be better at work,..... And then when I try to be productive at these things and make up time tables or planners etc, it all just crumbles down within days/weeks, because I feel pressured and lazy and bad about myself.
But several weeks ago I bought a diary, and I once again asked "what do I want from life", and my hand wrote "I want my passed away relative back". It was a huge realization to me that I've been distancing myself from things that I actually want (because it would hurt if I don't get them), and that I was more affected by grief than I pretended to be. It's no wonder I don't find fulfillment when I try to force myself to do arbitrary things even though my soul needs another kind of healing. Ever since then I've asked myself more often "what do I actually want to do", and even small answers like "listen to music", "sit in the sun" or "go buy some fruit" have actually made me feel good once I execute them. I'm on my way to figure out what sorts of activities will make my life happier and more fulfilling, instead of trying to mold myself into society's expectations of a productive life.
So I guess my point is that if someone watching this feels pressure to be productive in life, but their brain is actually telling they SHOULD instead of WANT TO, then I would recommend taking a moment to talk to yourself about what are things that would actually give you happiness and peace :)

so cool. I made a wall to for chronic illness progress but could be applicable to just general life . each week i put a weekly planner page on the wall and in each day (in advance) I've written the main things I need to do each day - food, cold shower, sun, meditate, excercise routine, pace (energy). and I tick them everyday and it becomes a way to reflect on the past week or few weeks and be like oooh you've really slacked with your cold showers etc. it makes me feel like effy from skins when she came back from hospital but it works.

I love that this is an analog system. I struggle so hard with all above mentioned systems. And though digital is the most versatile and compact ( I travel a lot with no stationary space ), I found that it doesn't let me actually SEE everything at a glance. I'll lose track of progress in tabs, windows. In books I cannot right away see what is inside the book so I WILL forget to even look in it. Too many scrap paper for shiny new ideas. Sorry for the vomit. BUT I love love love your wall. The physical movement allows a greater sensory connection to bring that "feel good about progress" into reality. Too often I complete something but don't actually feel that I did. The mind-muscle connection is missing I suppose. This system also brings a sweetness to something that may initially feel overwhelming or impossible.
I feel this is also better for perfectionist creatives. Each sectioned is almost a custom visual representation of how it feels to progress for that particular item. The long swirl for the house savings versus the linear approach to writing a book. The bucket depth also feels more accurate to how items will have to spend time in each stage. If there was no bucket, for example, I think for me, it would feel more pressured to move forward quicker.
Anyway, I could go on for awhile on how much I love this system. Thank you for sharing. Always love your videos.

Thank you!!! I long for your videos. It arrived the day I planned to start a "productivity advices" diet. Starting now, two weeks countryside retreat. Glad I got this one video of yours before! Now I'll only open my sketchbook ☺️

i am right now working with a super small and simple version of this on a big project, and wow i'm really in love with some of your wall's features!! the pockets of flowers for example, it's great, i will do something like that in the future instead of coloring sections of tasks into different colors depending on their stage of being finished))
making those tracking "analog computers" is like half of the fun, too))

I was getting worried something had happened, so it's great to see you back. Definitely missed your videos! But I'm also glad that the break was good, and getting this video out of it (and your upcoming book!) is wonderful. And, really, I feel like you taking a break from TH-cam to write, even elongating Superset, is a very "practicing what you preach" thing to do. Looking forward to whatever's next (no matter how long it takes).

and the timing just hits perfectly. couple of days ago i had this overwhelming feeling of having too many things that are interesting to me atm. felt this urge to draw it all out on my whiteboard. watching your vid now makes me want to create a lasting version of what i drew on the board. the wall is coming

Your videos always inspire me so much, I have just used your journalling ideas this week. I love the low-tech, colourful, self-made and well thought through ideas of yours. It's totally fair to not make TH-cam the highest priority - I am looking forward to any new video though.
I have always felt like a hand-written overview motivates me best over months, but have never sat down to actually implement a more complex board. I want to, now.
That it makes people happy to feel like they're making progress is so simple but eye-opening for me. This will influence my big choices regarding my career. And I can stop feeling guilty about not being always happy even though it's cozy and well-paying.
    Thank you!

Looking forward to your next book. I too have shiny new object syndrome. I like the idea of the wall as the more stuff I ‘have’ to do (juggle) the more shiny new objects are much more appealing. It may have to go on ice for the moment though until I can clear the backlog.

omg I love this, I started this year using my version of the BigAss Calendar. It's helped me to visualize what is going to happen, but not so much what needs to or should happen ie planning. And I've realized that digital just doesn't spark the same excitement for me, its sooooo much smaller, limited to the size of your screen. But I want something big to feel big too. Anywho, im stealing this

PS. I particularly like the physical aspect of moving a token around - I think it'll be so much more effective than just moving pieces of paper. Thank you for the idea! I'm off to finally use my random button collection for something :D

Congrats on the progress! I love it when a system works--I just struggle with continuing to use that system! 😅 (shiny new things...!)
The running goal and the way you've visualised it makes me think about using a similar strategy for meditation and track the amount of minutes so if I miss a day or two it doesn't derail me, since it's about the accumulation of time spent not perfect days.
I've been rereading Your Head is a Houseboat this week (funny timing!) so it's super exciting to see your progress on book 2. Keep on! 😊
