She did a fantastic job as expected! I know people were wondering whether cheer up was a good song choice but I knew she would kill it; they said the same thing about dream girl. Really, seunghee is a great performer and she's smart. She played to the audience by choosing a song that's super popular and putting her own spin on it. Her high notes at the end were gorgeous too.

Loved both kei's and seunghee's performances People need to know that you can showcase your voice AND engage with the audience and get a high mark. Thats what seunghee does. It's not always about just hitting all those high notes and show them that yes you can sing. it's important to draw attention to your performance too. Both of them did great this time :)

I do think that there were a few things in her performance that I would consider "off"; but altogether, Seunghee did a good job of owning this song and not just singing someone else's song.

Even though Seunghee's voice don't really have a special vibe like any other main vocal, but she's really good in handling her own technic of singing... she know where to put the high note, and ignore the part before the high note.... everything about Seunghee and her group (OMG) are really interesting for me...

I recently got into OMG and they have phenomenal stage presence, and Seunghee especially. The fact that she moves like we'd usually see from a rapper and can play with the audience is something I've rarely seen from a singer. Usually they'd focus on their voice and just smiling or use their hand, but Seunghee moves like how we'd see from a rapper improvising. Not sure why, but that just made me really swoon over this performance
She is not just a vocalist but a born performer. She know how to entertain people. I also heard that she made the arrangement as well as Dream Girl's. This girl is hell talented as well as other OMG girls. Don't give up loves cause you deserve a place in the industry. Miracles will always be at your side! Fighting!

Get it Seunghee! Beautiful interpretation, and such a lovely and strong singing voice- I feel like she's constantly growing, getting better and better. Also, thank you for working on that pronunciation in this song- don't get me wrong, it wasn't perfect, but it sounded closer to what the English part should sound like as opposed to the original track. Before anyone starts getting stupid- yes, I love Twice, and I know they're only doing as they're told and trained. But some of these idols in SEVERAL companies need to be given better diction coaching when they have English in their songs- I don't blame the idols, as it's not their first language 99 percent of the time (save for the few who might be cast from the U.S. or other English speaking countries), and they rely on their companies to train them in their diction. But if they're going to have English, it needs to sound like English.
Ummmm......the target audience for ALL k-pop groups are Koreans. If they don't pronounce "English" words proprerly doesn't matter. If the Korean public understands (or doesn't really care), then that's all that matters.

By your argument, it would make absolutely no sense to put English in there at all if it were only for Korean fans because that isn't their native language. And if companies want to do that, they need to train their idols better in terms of English diction, because some of it comes out sounding ridiculous sometimes. There are plenty of video compilations out there as well as articles where people discuss this issue. #TheseDoBetterMoments
Furthermore, I would set the same standard for any idol coming from another country to a K-pop group in terms of their Korean diction needing to be excelling as well, since they're singing in Korean. It goes both ways, but if you're going to sing in ANY language (regardless of whether or not it's your native tongue) the diction needs to be set to a high standard so it makes sense to the listener, period.
Then by your logic, they should put in Thai words and Chinese words in as well, correct? English words are all over Asia. And many times, it's not the correct usage of the word; but they don't care. They wear the clothes or use the saying anyway. Not to impress English speaking foreigners; but because they just want to use what they've heard in different songs, movies, etc... Having international fans is kinda like having a good side dish; but we are NOT the main course. Most companies don't really care about our opinions. They keep to the Korean sensibilities of songs and sayings. I mean, why do you think it's so difficult to get into their official fanclubs? Unless they actually offer English speaking fans the opportunity by translating the whole process, you have to read and understand Hangul and possibly have a Korean address (I know that's true for many groups in Japan). Why do y'all always think that Korean groups have to cater to you? That's so egocentric. We need to truly know our place and know that we are NOT at the top of the list. We're more of an afterthought.

This is also why, and I find it interesting that you either knowingly or unknowingly overlooked this fact: tons of K-pop groups (especially those from the big 3) will often do their same albums, or at least many of their popular Korean hits, in Mandarin, because that market is huge. Japanese is another language they will use, but Mandarin is key, and many popular K-pop songs will get translated as a result. On that note, there are plenty of people that talk about this, on both good and bad notes. There are some that enjoy the translations, others that say it doesn't quite translate properly, and even others that say that despite the singers best efforts, it's painfully obvious to some of them when a native Korean speaker is singing in Mandarin, because it just doesn't quite sound right. So no, in fact, it's not about me being egocentric, it's about me stating the fact that if ANYONE, regardless of where they are from, wants to or is required to sing in a different language, their company is responsible for making certain that the diction is clear and precise so that it makes sense to the fans. There is honestly no argument to be made to state that this isn't important: if the singer doesn't focus on the diction of the language, why should the audience want to listen or enjoy it? You can sing something beautifully and still sound a hot mess.
Seunghee is really smart. She isnt greedy in choosing song. She always chooses song that fit her voice well and then make that song become her. She controls the stage well, makes the audient move their body feel the beat. She desevers first place with this performace.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! Finally a voice of reason through all this "vocal showcasing" fluff in these comments. Vocally, this song is not as easy as most fans think. I do think that there were a few things in her performance that I would consider "off"; but altogether, Seunghee did a good job of owning this song and not just singing someone else's song.

I recently got into OMG and they have phenomenal stage presence, and Seunghee especially. The fact that she moves like we'd usually see from a rapper and can play with the audience is something I've rarely seen from a singer. Usually they'd focus on their voice and just smiling or use their hand, but Seunghee moves like how we'd see from a rapper improvising. Not sure why, but that just made me really swoon over this performance
IMO rather than rapper, she enjoying and play around the stage and audience like a rockstar, like a frontman of rock band.
She is not just a vocalist but a born performer. She know how to entertain people. I also heard that she made the arrangement as well as Dream Girl's. This girl is hell talented as well as other OMG girls. Don't give up loves cause you deserve a place in the industry. Miracles will always be at your side! Fighting!

because she brought it down to her supported range, which is very very smart. Nayeon and Jihyo strain in the original due to the key too high for them (plus they're both less proficient than Seunghee technically), but yeah Seunghee really knows her voice well enough to make arrangement fitting to her voice the most

What is amazing about Seung Hee is her arrangement. She arranges it to make this song her style. She makes everyone feel like it's her own song. And because this is recently popular song, the difficulty is double because people will still remember the original version. Great job Seung Hee!!!

Get it Seunghee! Beautiful interpretation, and such a lovely and strong singing voice- I feel like she's constantly growing, getting better and better. Also, thank you for working on that pronunciation in this song- don't get me wrong, it wasn't perfect, but it sounded closer to what the English part should sound like as opposed to the original track. Before anyone starts getting stupid- yes, I love Twice, and I know they're only doing as they're told and trained. But some of these idols in SEVERAL companies need to be given better diction coaching when they have English in their songs- I don't blame the idols, as it's not their first language 99 percent of the time (save for the few who might be cast from the U.S. or other English speaking countries), and they rely on their companies to train them in their diction. But if they're going to have English, it needs to sound like English.
Ummmm......the target audience for ALL k-pop groups are Koreans. If they don't pronounce "English" words proprerly doesn't matter. If the Korean public understands (or doesn't really care), then that's all that matters.

By your argument, it would make absolutely no sense to put English in there at all if it were only for Korean fans because that isn't their native language. They do it because they want to connect to international fans AS WELL as Korean fans to broaden their fanbase. And if companies want to do that, they need to train their idols better in terms of English diction, because some of it comes out sounding ridiculous sometimes. There are plenty of video compilations out there as well as articles where people discuss this issue. #TheseDoBetterMoments
Furthermore, I would set the same standard for any idol coming from another country to a K-pop group in terms of their Korean diction needing to be excelling as well, since they're singing in Korean. It goes both ways, but if you're going to sing in ANY language (regardless of whether or not it's your native tongue) the diction needs to be set to a high standard so it makes sense to the listener, period.
Then by your logic, they should put in Thai words and Chinese words in as well, correct? English words are all over Asia. And many times, it's not the correct usage of the word; but they don't care. They wear the clothes or use the saying anyway. Not to impress English speaking foreigners; but because they just want to use what they've heard in different songs, movies, etc...
Having international fans is kinda like having a good side dish; but we are NOT the main course. Most companies don't really care about our opinions. They keep to the Korean sensibilities of songs and sayings. I mean, why do you think it's so difficult to get into their official fanclubs? Unless they actually offer English speaking fans the opportunity by translating the whole process, you have to read and understand Hangul and possibly have a Korean address (I know that's true for many groups in Japan). Why do y'all always think that Korean groups have to cater to you? That's so egocentric. We need to truly know our place and know that we are NOT at the top of the list. We're more of an afterthought.

They only put English in there because it's the universal language at this point- but again, they put it in there in the first place specifically for the international fans, not just because they've heard the words and want to use them. By that logic, the only words they would use would be common ones like girl, boy, baby, love, or phrases like "miss you", "need you", "don't go", etc. By that logic, using "cheer up" doesn't make sense, because honestly it's not something that you hear in mainstream music that much.
Also, you're completely off-base if you don't think that international fans are important to K-pop. International most DEFINITELY includes China, which is currently one of K-pop's largest consumers of the brand, and which is also why they always try to outsource that way, get concerts out there, have award shows there, etc. That's why this whole threat of China potentially banning K-pop due to political affairs has made stocks go up and down, back and forth recently. This is also why, and I find it interesting that you either knowingly or unknowingly overlooked this fact: tons of K-pop groups (especially those from the big 3) will often do their same albums, or at least many of their popular Korean hits, in Mandarin, because that market is huge. Japanese is another language they will use, but Mandarin is key, and many popular K-pop songs will get translated as a result.
On that note, there are plenty of people that talk about this, on both good and bad notes. There are some that enjoy the translations, others that say it doesn't quite translate properly, and even others that say that despite the singers best efforts, it's painfully obvious to some of them when a native Korean speaker is singing in Mandarin, because it just doesn't quite sound right. So no, in fact, it's not about me being egocentric, it's about me stating the fact that if ANYONE, regardless of where they are from, wants to or is required to sing in a different language, their company is responsible for making certain that the diction is clear and precise so that it makes sense to the fans. There is honestly no argument to be made to state that this isn't important: if the singer doesn't focus on the diction of the language, why should the audience want to listen or enjoy it? You can sing something beautifully and still sound a hot mess.
Seunghee is really smart. She isnt greedy in choosing song. She always chooses song that fit her voice well and then make that song become her. She controls the stage well, makes the audient move their body feel the beat. She desevers first place with this performace.
