  • Is Experience God's personal love for everyone? in this Catholic lenten reflection we discuss the nature of love by examining the following quotes from Pope John Paul II.
Stations of the Cross by St Alphonsus
    • Stations of the Cross ...
"Sometimes Catholics have lost or never had the chance to experience Christ personally, not as a mere value, but as the living Lord, the way the truth and the life."
" Conversion means accepting by personal decision the saving sovereignty of Christ and become his disciple. "

I experienced the love of God. I was raised in catholic family in Poland. My family from my mother side and my father was very religious, faithful catholics. Mine grandfather's brother was a prist and my cousin is a prist. We also have a noun in family. My mom is devoted Catholics. However my father always made a joke of people who are devoted Catholics. He goes to church on Sunday but has a problem to talk about God and faith at home. So I followed my dad footsteps . I was going to mass on Sundays but I didn't have personal relationship with Jesus. It all changed 8 years ago when suddenly I felt that everything doesn't make sense. I had young children that time but I wasn't happy. I felt alone. My relationship with my husband wasn't ideal. And I started to develop in my heart desire very strong desire to know my God and to understand catholic faith. Suddenly i was attuned to every word I heard during the homily. I had desire to do some volunteer work and now I am helping at food bank. My friend recommended for me polish catholic priests and speakers podcasts, video , conferences and retreats on line through TH-cam. I think that for the last 8 years I listened to thousands of catholic teachings. I feel like I finally understand catholic faith and I love it! God showed me his love. First by listening others talking about his love I believed it and felt very happy. I started to praise God and thank him for everything. I was looking at my life and my past differently. I was happy doing my "boring " chores. I appreciate everything. I started to go to mass during the week not only Sunday. I bought lots of religious ikon ,books, pictures etc. I am praying rosary every day and reading religious books and bible. I also started to feel very happy after receiving God in Eucharist. Anyway my thinking changed. I think it's called metanoja. I love God with all my heart and I know he loves me too. And that is the most important to me.

Hi, a beautiful message today, thank you so much for help in my Lenten journey! What stood out is the love for us in the Prodigal son especially the older son not embracing him!

You’ve brought even deeper meaning to the Prodigal son. I think so many in our world don’t know what authentic love is. We don’t know how to allow God in our brokenness and don’t feel worthy of love. We need to pray for healing and openness to Gods love. Thank you Ken. There’s so much to meditate on in todays lesson.

The evil spirits work endlessly to keep us from feeling God’s LOVE through them constantly reminding us of our weaknesses and past sins. When we stop allowing these evil influences in our life we’ll feel GOD’S ABUNDANT LOVE OF/FOR US. ❤❤❤😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉

I loved the explanation of the prodigal son. I always wondered the perspective of the eldest son and what the lesson was and I think I finally got it now. I have at some points stood on the outside looking in at the party being angry. This has brought me so much light. It is about letting the father embrace you wherever you are at in life. Thanks Ken!! I have a new path to work on now!

A meaningful and helpful reflection for all we Catholics who grew up with rote practice. After so many years of going through the motions it was the Divine Mercy devotion that I happened upon by accident in a nearby church, and started sitting in quietly, that revealed God’s love to me more fully.

I have had moments of consolation with God and with our Blessed Mother Mary.
I've been a great sinner, but they did not condemn me or frighten me to be a "good person." They only showed me complete and never experienced before love and kindness when truly I am one most unworthy of it all.
I, too, am a prodigal daughter of God. Heaven wants nothing but truth, love and compassion for each other... and that is exactly how they love us, unconditionally. To experience an unbounding love like that is ever-life changing and I hope everyone gets to experience that same love in this lifetime.
God Bless the whole world, no exceptions.

Thank you again for these reflections. I really appreciate the prospective of not being a slave but a son/daughter of God Almighty. I have had some of those dry spells for sure but what always brings me back is I ask myself what is the purpose for all these rules. I know that they are for my sanctification because he loves me and that though the road can be tiresome at times we gotta keep going...there is a Great Prize at the end of this road. 🙌✝🛐

You mentioned many Catholics hasn't experienced the love of Christ. I think the moment I really experienced it was when I was Presbyterian but had left my church to explore other churches because I didn't feel my church was teaching God's truth. I wasn't living in God's truth but I wanted to, but sin had a hold on me. I had an obsession to pornography from my teen years and I was in my middle 60s at the time. Once I felt Jesus Christ leading me to the Catholic Church, my desire for pornography stopped immediately. It was replaced with a fire burning inside me that I wanted to know more about Jesus Christ, the real truth. I became Catholic a year later. This Lent, I've started a new practice of keeping a prayer journal. I was never one to write my thoughts down but I find I'm able to do that more freely now.
I love your videos by the way.

Ken, in my 65+ years of hearing homilies on the Prodigal Son, I have NEVER heard its message explained as eloquently as you did in this meditation! I have vacillated between being the elder son/daughter and feeling I didn't count in God's plan and realizing I had a closed, cold heart. Bless you for your words which have opened and warmed my heart. I will always remember this reflection!

I was so blessed to have an extra loving relationship with my parents, particularly my father. I miss him dearly every day and while he was living, I recall never wanting to do or say anything that would cause him pain or have him think less of me up until he passed. That relationship has so helped me better understand how sin can disappoint Our Heavenly Father. So hard to understand the love He has for us if we did not have that loving experience growing up!

This is excellent Ken! We cannot be deceived like the Pharisees that by living by “rule of law” (following the Laws of the Church but no LOVE relationship with Jesus) alone will save us! The greatest Commandment is LOVE the Lord God with all your mind body and soul and love your neighbor as yourself. Therefore LOVE is greater then law and rules so we should follow the “rules” BECAUSE we LOVE Jesus. Ask God the Father every morning to increase your LOVE faith, hope and humility, holiness and His Will in you. And ask Jesus and Mom (Our Blessed Mother) to teach you how to love Them. In everything you do-even sleeping, dressing, walking, eating, working etc tell Jesus you do it for love of Him. Then watch your relationship with Him grow. But it’s not mushy “feelings”. It’s a choice to love Jesus and accept His love because He truly loves us all!

I feel like we still seek that transcendence despite our culture looking to other means than the cross to find it. Islam to me is a religion of all rules and not a faith of personal connection and the modern secular culture seeks pleasure to find it. The old pagans at least beileved in reverence, responsibility, and sacrifice. One Easter vigil my heart was filled with grief as my bus coming home from the service passed the convention centre holding a rave and my instant thought was there's probably more people around my age at that time at the rave taking all kinds of intoxicants and having their senses drowned out by loud music than the church to find connection. Like the prodigal son we should pray for their return.
"Some of the most beautiful names in the human language are given to the god of the Koran, but he is ultimately a god outside of the world, a god who is only Majesty, never Emmanuel, God with us. Islam is not a religion of redemption. There is no room for the Cross and the Resurrection. Jesus is mentioned, but only as prophet who prepares for the last prophet, Muhammad. There is also mention of Mary, His Virgin Mother, but the tragedy of redemption is completely absent. For this reason not only the theology but also the anthropology of Islam is very distant from Christianity."
    JP11
“The substance of all such paganism may be summarised thus. It is an attempt to reach the divine reality through the imagination alone; in its own field reason does not restrain it at all.
    G.K. Chesterton

I wouldn’t begin to know what to look for that would tell me God loves me. Is there something concrete that I should be looking for, or do I just need to accept that that is how it is, even if I don’t feel that.

My husband seems like this, and my Dad. I think my husband is grasping Jesus as a human person (with God’s Divine love) better after watching Jesus, as portrayed in “The Chosen”. The readings at mass mean more to him now, because they seem more real, not just an empty story from his childhood. He is the kind to follow rules for the sake of rules, so it has been all more about anxiety and pressure than love. Thank God for a TV show reaching out…

Those who did not ever have expressive love for whatever reason ( for example, orphaned children, attachment issue children, those in autistic spectrum) might not identify with giving or receiving tactile affection within a sensory defensive context. They may not necessarily be open to receiving expressive love in imagery like climbing into Jesus’ lap. I experience Jesus’ Love in the rays of blood and water emanating from his Grace of Divine Mercy flowing into me. I don’t need the arm hugs, kisses, or tactile affection imagery, it is not for everyone. It does not mean less loving or less receiving- just different. God understands. I agree about the stations 🕊🎚️
