Thanks for this video! one question though, the subwoofer in my a4 sounds exactly like you described, but i also have a separate subwoofer mounted in my trunk that works completely fine. Would i be able to simply unplug the broken woofer within causing damage to anything? sorry if this is a stupid question i know so little about this stuff
Thanks so much for creating this video, C&C. Owned my 2010 S4 since new, and the buzzing from rear woofer just recently started. Brought it to a car audio shop. Tech described pretty much exactly what you yourself showed. He said this woofer separation happens to ALL Audi’s rear speakers due to the sun baking the rear package shelf over a 10-yr period (average). Labor charge was going to be $300 ($125/hr. rate). May I ask how long it took you to DIY? At 65, I need to decide if I can get in my trunk and remove its seatback. He also confirmed that I could just disconnect the wire to disable the speaker, but I know that will compromise the stereo’s output quality. The S4 is in great shape, and I don't like diminishing the driving experience!
I would say it’s a 1 hour job at most. But a shop is going to charge you what they need to make enough to pay the rent. $300 plus the part is not unreasonable for a $60k car when new.
I need to do this. However I was thinking of going with an aftermarket sub and using some dynamat on the top and bottom part of the shelf to tighten up the sound and reduce any miscellaneous rattles that may creep up. However I don't know if it would even be worth it.
Is the speaker terminal labeled positive and negative? I'm thinking of replacing mines with an aftermarket one and want to make sure I wire up the speaker correctly.
So if you use a 9v battery on the terminals of the subwoofer if the cone pushes in then it’s wrong but if the cone pushes out then you will have the right polarity to positive and negative.

Will it sound any different? I don’t know. Will it last longer than the original? Most likely! But will you keep it long enough to find out? :)

You probably can't. Fold down seats were an option. You will have to do it from trunk area.
